the calico thing annoys me too like...its a fantasy book about talking cats who live in the woods, have an organized society, mates for life, an ENTIRE religion, and cats who can communicate with dead cats. why is patched male cats suddenly the most unrealistic thing?
I wouldn't call them exactly 'talking cats'. At least from what I know, that generally refers to animals speaking human languages and I'm pretty sure they've never done so. Even if the dialogue is in English, would you really read it if it wasn't and you had to decipher cat speak?
I mean, to be fair, again, giving cats a language is less an issue of realism vs unrealism and far more an issue of readability. Sure, you could try to write a book with cats communicating through body language, but giving them dialogue is just easier. And I'm just saying that the 'talking' thing isn't an issue that should come up as unrealistic unless they start talking English and having conversations with humans or something.

For the calico male question: Calico males are very rare because their is a type of genetic when a calico is born it's female so its rare, but it can still happen and I'm happy that someone popular has a male calico cat OC so others can be creative and do what they think and love

I’m not gonna lie , this series is one of the “ highlights “ per day of my weekends , I love these freaking episodes of just watching you draw. I wish more people would put commentary over speed paints rather then music , it makes watching the video much more enjoyable and entertaining! Okay, thank you for mentioning the calico thing. I have a pair of calico brothers myself (named Stonepatch and Berryheart) and I'm well aware of the rare calico fact. I own a dilute calico cat, I've researched the pelt colouration. Anyway, I think having weirdly patterned warriors and stuff are fine, and tinted fur colours (like pinky-grey or greenish-brown). I only dislike super unrealistic colours, but I don't really bother people about it unless they ask. Honestly though, how many canon warriors are "brown" when there's only one or two specific breeds that are a brown like most people draw them? And those breeds don't have patterns. So yeah, we can mess with cat genetics a bit. I still made my brothers sterile, since it's part of Stonepatch's character arc when he lets go of the one dream bigger than becoming deputy; having kits. Berryheart doesn't need to worry. He's gay, so it never bothers him. Anyway, this turned into a ramble about my own characters. I love Wildfur and Patchpaw and maybe I'll draw them or draw them with my two. Calico boys!
I agree! Tbh people should be free to make what they like because saying every cat should be genetically accurate limits creativity. I also like how you include the whole sterile thing, that's an interesting plot point! However, I do have to say that 'brown' (chocolate) isn't reserved to a few breeds. It can be sometimes also be seen in moggies, but of off the top of my head: York Chocolate, Havana Brown, British short and long hair, Oriental short hair and long hair, Exotic, Persian, American Curl, American Bobtail, Burmilla, Japanese Bobtail. That's not even mentioning breeds like the Birman, Ragdoll, Siamese, Tonkinese, or the Burmese that are allowed chocolate with colorpoint mink or sepia. Also consider a genetically black tabby looks very brown, the only black thing about it being the stripes, and that they're the most common tabby color. That said, I do agree. I don't think we should make a problem of it when there's also calico males in canon, which pretty much proves that in canon its possible. It doesn't have to be exactly like real life.

Considering there's a cat with ACTUAL blue fur (Bluestar isn't based on a Russian Blue as their coats are more gray than blue-I know I have one), a silvery gray cat with a stark red tail (Rosetail), and a cat with a coat that blazes like fire (Firestar), when in real life most orange cats aren't solid but tabbies, IIiii think people trying to bring genetics into warriors is like trying to question Logic in Disney Films...just kind of stupid. These are great character designs, and I like that there's a tomcat who's calico-quite different.
"gray-BLUE" the blue is still there and often prominently described as well. We still have Rosetail, Redtail who i do believe is a tortoiseshell tom, and Leopardstar, a cat with a pelt like a LITERAL LEOPARD even though she's a small house sized cat, Redtail a tortoiseshell tom, Spideleg a black cat with a brown underbelly....THREE cats sharing the exact same coat colors being Bramblestar, Hawkfrost and Tigerstar....need I go on? Bringing genetics into warriors is just stupid either way.
I WILL agree there the official art makes me infuriated sometimes-is Bramblestar all brown now with dark black stripes, or is Firestar now completely stark orange with a nice white muzzle, is Tigerstar a dark brown tabby or mixed brown tabby like...girl make up your mind lol it can get so bad

Male calicos designs are so cool. Another cool way to look at it is with Chimerism. It creates the calico, torbie, tortoiseshell look while still being able to produce offspring. (That''s how I headcannon my Redtail)
In 5:20 - 7:10 Wildfur and Spottedshadow are a very interesting and creative as a couple. They both are really made for each other. They both think they’re very different from the rest of the clans and they have been through a lot.
I love calico males! I would never be like, "Hey! Just so you know there is not male calicos" or like, "You shouldn't make this!" I love Wildfur's design! You inspire me to keep drawing no matter what people say!
Honestly, I think you have some of the most interesting and well developed ocs I’ve seen, and I have a lot of my own as well! It ticks my off when people get all, “oh that’s not REALISTIC” with ocs. The whole point of an oc is showing your own unique creativity! We love your ocs so please never stop drawing them!
What a wonderful design and character! I hope that Wildfur finds happiness sometime in his life and afterlife. Wildfur actually reminds me about an oc I have named Wildwind. Wildwind is, ironically, a Windclan warrior who has a bit more of a happy life with her clan. She is part Riverclan and Windclan and is discriminated against due to this but that never stopped her in the slightest. She is very spunky and unpredictable as her name suggests, but she can be stubborn and rash if she can't see reason. She is also very small and can easily be overpowered by a larger cat, but she is swift, agile, and a quick thinker. She doesn't have a very unique design like Wildfur. She is a white she-cat with odd small freckles/spots on her face and along her back and tail. I find it so interesting how people, when creating warrior ocs, can have such different cats and stories! It is simply amazing!

Wildfur was a (minor) canon character, mentioned by Littlecloud in OOTS, when Briarlight was lamed and Jayfeather and Squirrelflight went to Shadowclan for advice. Littlecloud mentioned that he had a case like her’s, a tom named Wildfur, whom had broken his back and died from chest infection. I just thought that that was cool.
Just saying, the Goldenpelt liking Spottedshadow and everyone being on Spottie's ass about not accepting his advances.. sounds a hell of a lot like Dovewing and Bumblestripe, with a few *ahem* certain cats yelling at her that, "He only likes you! Can't you be willing to love him back?" Bitch it's her choice
They do have a few male calicos in the actual stories, at least from what I understand. Love your OCs by the way! I'm getting ideas for a story I want to do. Keep up the amazing work!
I think calico toms are great and have a couple OC's like that myself, I mean when you consider how many people have white or black OC's thinking that's proper but unique but fail to understand that the most common cat coat color and pattern is the standard grey/silver tabby, you realize that you're not in the wrong anymore than they are.
On the calico thing *takes a sip of water* I just recently got 2 calico kittens, and one is male. His name is Draven and he's a lil' fluffy boi who will 100% melt into any surface should you give him attention.
Believe it or not I have a Warrior Cats OC that is named Wildheart and she looks very similar to wildfur, I made her when I was about 10 or 11 I considered calling her Wildfire because I wanted her fur to look like fire but that quickly changed. honestly it shocked me when I saw the Spottedshadow video and to see the similarities between the two.
Actually, it's highly possible that Wildfur and his brother are both fertile, but they would breed as red/black males. You see, the most common way to get two calico males in a litter is for their embryos, both male but one red and one black, to mix and mingle and then separate before they start developing into fetuses. This would mean that both have red male and black male genetics, allowing them both to breed as both. But since that's not common knowledge, you might get a lot more flack for making them fertile than is really necessary so....
Though I do love realistic designs and think actually encourage creativity, I agree that OCs should not be gatekept based on the preferences of others.
lol the genetics things are so true because you should just be able to make warrior OCs without judgement. my OCs are a silver tabby and a dark brown tabby who had a Completely white kit, a tortoiseshell kit, a light brown tabby, and a brown with lighter flecks
I headcanon he was an XY/XY chimera so he was fully capable of having kits. Edit;; Yes, I am one of those "pricks" though only in my head and I don't usually bring it up to other people about there own OCs
I mean, yeah, there is a difference between shoving real genetics onto people and preferring to use them yourself. I personally try to abide by genetics as much as possible when making ocs, but of course other people don't necessarily have to.

Rotten Legacy Hey, thanks!! While I’ve sort of abandoned these characters and the fanclan they’re from, that really warms my heart.
There actually are pinkish-gray cats! It’s a diluted version of chocolate cats (Cats who are solid brown in colour), and it’s referred to as lilac.
I really like WildFur's and PatchPaws design. Plus WildFur's ginger eyebrows really stand out witch is always a good thing when it comes to warriors.
I don't care if you have toms who are calicos, but I personally try too keep all my cats' genetics realistic.
Actually, toms can be tortoiseshell. They are just incredibly rare. Don't forget Redtail and Sol!

Male calicos designs are so cool. Another cool way to look at it is with Chimerism. It creates the calico, torbie, tortoiseshell look while still being able to produce offspring. (That''s how I headcannon my Redtail)

In 5:20 - 7:10 Wildfur and Spottedshadow are a very interesting and creative as a couple. They both are really made for each other. They both think they’re very different from the rest of the clans and they have been through a lot.

Honestly, I think you have some of the most interesting and well developed ocs I’ve seen, and I have a lot of my own as well! It ticks my off when people get all, “oh that’s not REALISTIC” with ocs. The whole point of an oc is showing your own unique creativity! We love your ocs so please never stop drawing them!

What a wonderful design and character! I hope that Wildfur finds happiness sometime in his life and afterlife. Wildfur actually reminds me about an oc I have named Wildwind. Wildwind is, ironically, a Windclan warrior who has a bit more of a happy life with her clan.
She is part Riverclan and Windclan and is discriminated against due to this but that never stopped her in the slightest. She is very spunky and unpredictable as her name suggests, but she can be stubborn and rash if she can't see reason. She is also very small and can easily be overpowered by a larger cat, but she is swift, agile, and a quick thinker. She doesn't have a very unique design like Wildfur. She is a white she-cat with odd small freckles/spots on her face and along her back and tail. I find it so interesting how people, when creating warrior ocs, can have such different cats and stories! It is simply amazing!

Wildfur was a (minor) canon character, mentioned by Littlecloud in OOTS, when Briarlight was lamed and Jayfeather and Squirrelflight went to Shadowclan for advice. Littlecloud mentioned that he had a case like her’s, a tom named Wildfur, whom had broken his back and died from chest infection. I just thought that that was cool.

I think calico toms are great and have a couple OC's like that myself, I mean when you consider how many people have white or black OC's thinking that's proper but unique but fail to understand that the most common cat coat color and pattern is the standard grey/silver tabby, you realize that you're not in the wrong anymore than they are.
On the calico thing *takes a sip of water* I just recently got 2 calico kittens, and one is male. His name is Draven and he's a lil' fluffy boi who will 100% melt into any surface should you give him attention.

Believe it or not I have a Warrior Cats OC that is named Wildheart and she looks very similar to wildfur, I made her when I was about 10 or 11 I considered calling her Wildfire because I wanted her fur to look like fire but that quickly changed. honestly it shocked me when I saw the Spottedshadow video and to see the similarities between the two.
Actually, it's highly possible that Wildfur and his brother are both fertile, but they would breed as red/black males. You see, the most common way to get two calico males in a litter is for their embryos, both male but one red and one black, to mix and mingle and then separate before they start developing into fetuses. This would mean that both have red male and black male genetics, allowing them both to breed as both. But since that's not common knowledge, you might get a lot more flack for making them fertile than is really necessary so....
Though I do love realistic designs and think actually encourage creativity, I agree that OCs should not be gatekept based on the preferences of others.

lol the genetics things are so true because you should just be able to make warrior OCs without judgement. my OCs are a silver tabby and a dark brown tabby who had a Completely white kit, a tortoiseshell kit, a light brown tabby, and a brown with lighter flecks

I mean, yeah, there is a difference between shoving real genetics onto people and preferring to use them yourself. I personally try to abide by genetics as much as possible when making ocs, but of course other people don't necessarily have to.
