  • Ricardo says his relationship with his dad, Horace, has always been complicated, especially because Ricardo is gay. Horace says he was a young father and he supports his son but there's only so much disrespect a father can accept from his child. Ricardo is demanding a DNA test because he feels like maybe this man doesn't love him because they're not really related. Can Karamo help this father and son move forward?

Unpopular opinion but I don’t think people should applaud parents when they say “I stepped up” because at the end of the day you’re the parent, you made the choice to have kids; that’s what you’re supposed to do.

    • @tincredible
      @tincredible 9 месяцев назад +97

Sadly, your unpopular opinion SHOULD be very popular. I absolutely agree. It's like expecting a cookie or brownie points for brushing my teeth this morning. That's what I naturally supposed to do. Interestingly, people hold kids to a higher standard than they hold parents. Parents are expected to be given grace for doing the bare minimum while any kid who isn't perfectly deferential to a mediocre, abusive, or half-absent parent is "entitled", "bratty", etc. We hold young people to a higher standard than we hold elders (who are SUPPOSED to be wiser).

I applaud it bc he was 16 and the odds were against him. We applaud that there was no abortion, no foster care system involved which very much could have happened and even though he was irrespinsible he did what he had/ knew to do. I think he was treated different bc he was a problematic child. The son needs to take responsibility fot his own actions as well. He needs to see his father with the same lens he wants everyone else to see him.

I feel like he used the term stepped up is because most fathers wouldn't. It's way more single mothers out here than fathers..so that's why he said that. Alot of fathers wouldn't give a damn whether they was in their childs life or not.. He did the best he could with being so young and had as many kids. None of us are perfect but we try our best everyday. Maybe Dad's best wasn't good enough for him. Anyone who acts out to get attention definitely needs help.

The son needs therapy. He’s traumatized and seems to have a lot of anxiety around abandonment from his parents. His feelings are valid and understandable. However this is likely C-PTSD. It can’t be resolved over the timeframe of a talk show. He wants his father to “ unbreak his heart “. That’s not going to happen. He needs to heal himself with therapy. EMDR might be extremely helpful for him.

If you hold on to their mistakes and think it’s their responsibility to heal you, you may never actually heal. It’s not to say dad doesn’t owe him respect, as an adult he just owes it to himself more. He needs to forgive his dad and move on. For himself.

Adults are resourceful, accountable and understanding the things/people they cannot change. The son should have contacted a family therapist for himself and his dad instead of a talk show, knowing the kind of healing he needs requires a deeper analysis. He brought his father all the way on tv to take an unnecessary DNA test…

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say this. Now I know this a short show and we don’t get to see the full break down of dynamic between Father/Son; but I some what feel the son is being manipulative towards the Dad and using the fact that the Father was away during childhood as a means to “get his way” and to ensure the Father has him added into his will/insurance policy. Trying to make the Dad feel guilty and shameful is manipulation and make him feel he owes you the world even tho you have to share him with other siblings. I know the Dad made poor choices as a teen having these kids at a young age but it doesn’t make him a bad person. Also Karamo stated as a Dad he should walk away when the Son is ready to go there with arguments when in reality the Son need to walk away and seek supportive help at age 34. The Son couldn’t anwser straight forward questions bc he is use to shutting down and crying so everyone feel sorry for him so he gets his way! The Father see the act the son puts on and doesn’t fold to his demands😂Lol. Either way I wish both well and hope it’s healing in the future for them

When we traveled, we never stayed more than 24 hours. Horace was a good guy and still is. He loved his children. So I have read the comments and many say that the “father did the best he could” but your best isn’t good enough if the child is saying I have a void. As a parent I demand respect, BUT let’s not forget that parents are not to provoke their children.
Ricardo is hurting and although he is in his 30s he is stuck in the pain of that child.
The father is saying he stepped up, but if your son is hurting you need to keep stepping up.
You don’t stop being a parent because your child makes mistakes, you continue to love them and pray for them and wait for them to make the necessary changes.
I pray for both the father and son. No judgement here because no one really knows what is going on, only what you think or what you observed.

I see a father willing to try and all he kept saying was I'm done, I'm blocking him, he doesn't love me blah blah, and all that emotion may be coming from a deeper place. I would recommend he start by getting his hormone levels checked and screened for depression. I respectfully disagree that his father needs to walk away during arguments because if he does, his son will still have problem with that and process it as him not listening to him or acknowledging his feelings

The father probably didn’t know how to be different. He was probably not raised with a father and doesn’t know how to be a better father.

Results; clear results, of babies having babies & there being no classes (parental, conflict resultón , interpersonal communication, & other classes) at every level of education!!! I’m glad there are people like Karamo; yet, imagine how much easier it would be for Karamo & other therapists if the initial information was taught at every level of education?! Imagine if every continuing education taught these classes? How do we lobby our government to make it happen? ❤❤❤ TY Karamo

“i raised six kids” YOUR MOTHER RAISED YOUR CHILDREN. you just admitted you were not present because you were on the road. that was a choice.

      Blessed be
Exactly and was continuing to make children thay he knew his mother would raise.. his son could have child sexual trauma.. something and someone hurt him. His father seems like a narcissist, and i can tell he is disappointed because hus son is openly gay.. however, maybe if he was around, the outcome would be different. He was selfishly still chasing a dream of his own and not being there for his children. I agree his mother was still raising him and his kids...

Horace was like my little brother. He was a good dad… as much as he can be as a 16 year old. This young man is disrespectful. At a young age he didn’t want anybody telling him what to do that’s why he was in trouble. I commend his father for not going into the details of his son’s rebellious years.

THERES NO EXCUSE FOR HIM THE FATHER ABOUT HIM BEING A CHILD THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOUR YOUNG AND DONT LISTEN TO UR PARENTS THAT CHILD HORACE DIDNT ASK TO BE HERE HE DIDNT SAY TO HIS PARENTS GO HEAD AND HAVE ME THATS THE CHOICE THAT WAS MADE FROM A MOTHER WHOM IS NOT AROUND AN A FATHER BEING OUT N THE STREETS AT A YOUNG AGE HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUNNING AROUND WITH HIS FRIENDS INSTEAD OF IMPREGANATING. Young girl cause he wanted to be a lover PERIOD BE A MAN Take responsibility and accountability for your ACTIONS I PROMISE YOU HE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN SO FORTH COMING AND OUT RIGHT RUDE OR DISRESPECTFUL TOWARDS HIS FATHER HE FEELS AND FELT ABANDONMENT PERIOD SO ITS NO EXCUSE FOR THE FATHER CAUSE A MAN IS GONNA BE A MAN BUT WHEN IT COMES TO A CHILD IF YOU Take the time to have a kid then tKe the time to raise a kid and they way his attitude is the father I'm speaking on the child wouldve been more respectful i believe cause i was raised frim my mom and dad an we had NOTHING BUT RESPECT BE WE KNEW BETTER THAN TO DISRESPECT OUR PARENTS

I let go of my mom at 32 because of toxic things she did to me as a child. She told me F*ck u but I got it off my chest and moved on. I’ve made peace with the woman she was and moved on with my life. I don’t cry when I think of her anymore I made it a figment of my past. U r grown enough to know when someone is ment to b in your life mom dad horse bird anybody or thing can go. I hope God blesses u and u find and make peace with your past. 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯

Lashing out isn't always due to pain. A lot of kids are simply showing their true character.... Disrespectful...This young man is full of drama. If he truly wanted to cut off all communications he would have stayed at home.. Dramatic and attention seeking..,🙄

Anyone can have a baby but it takes a real strong man to be a father. And kids resent a parent that's not actively interacting with them as little children. And hold them accountable for not being there in person. Being a father is the emotional interaction between the two of them not just a simple title. The son is saying that you can't tell him what to do because he's now an adult and their was never a bond built as a toddler on up.

Unfortunately, nobody can take away the fact that the boy was traumatized from whatever he went through but it also seems like his mouth is reckless, and just like you don’t want to be disrespected your father doesn’t wanna be disrespected either and I can only imagine what he does behind closed doors he had no intentions on mending in the relationship, so he should have never gone on this show
