If you are on a very steep slope in 1st gear, whats the maximum slip you can get? Will the clutch allow the engine to rev up to 4000 rpm also if needed? Or will the vehicle just stay in 1 place without moving. Or if you are badly stuck in an off-road situation. Also is there preset rev limit the system follows above which it will not slip the clutch eg no slip more than 2500rpm or some thing is it fully flexible? Actually the car doesn't stall at all. You can just release the brake in the first or second gear, even without the accelerator and it crawls at a slow speed , and this is very helpful in bumper to bumper traffic.

Hi Thanks for your explanation about iMT. I have KIA Seltos HTK+ iMT.Almost a year old. So far so good. Ran around 13000+Km. Today, I was driving bumper to bumper heavy traffic in Bangalore, suddenly display the warning says that Transmission unit get heated up, so safe to stop the vehicle. Very first time I am getting that warning. Then after few distance drove and stopped the car aside and off the engine for 10 minutes. Immediately called the KIA service centre over phone and asked about this warning. They said, nothing to worry. Don't keep engage in gear while stopping in the traffic. Bring it neutral and apply break. But this explanation, I am not convinced. Do I do some mistake of wrong driving or isiMT has some issues developing after some usage. I am worried. Please advise, how to handle iMT.Thanks
@@poopathiks i think its because of continuously applying break in bumper traffic , when we need to stop move to neutral and when we are moving then make it in first grear
I had similar experience in off roading at steep hilly area after driving for ~45 mins, hard acceleration and frequent gear shifts 1&2. Nothing to worry, this happens when you shift gears too often b/w 1 &2 for long time. Transmission gets heated and shows warning. Just try to avoid changing gears frequently in these scenarios, either keep driving at 1 or 2 gear only. If warning comes, park at side , keep engine turned on wait for 10-15 mins. It will be normal again
Very good bht sahi explain kiya My quest. Is. Sonet imt jyada acha hai long term ke liye ya brezaa automatic dono cars same price segment me hai konsi leni cahiye
Please answer my two questions: 1.As we release the brakes, the vehicle starts to disengage the clutch but it's done fully only when the accelerator is pressed, so we shall always ensure to press the accelerator after releasing the brakes for an efficient functioning?? 2. I have heard that petrol imt models give a poor mileage when compared with a petrol manual option. Is it true? What's the approximate mileage we will get in a sonet petrol imt model?
Great explanation. But it is mentioned in the sun visor of Sonet iMT that "Avoid changing gears while pressing brake pedal". In this video, you are changing gear while pressing brake pedal. Wont it hamper the transmission? Please explain the mechanism if known to you.
Glad to help! Also, someone asked the same question and I did explain to him the reason behind the warning. Please scan the comments and you shall find the answer 😃
Thanks for this wonderful video. Dear just tell me one thing, I have noticed a lag between 2nd and 3rd gear i.e. when I shift from 1st to 2nd, I experience a very irritating lag. And the same I experience in 2nd to 3rd. After that it's smooth. What should I do? Sometimes it seems that pickup is not good when there are 4-5 passengers in the car. Should I visit service center? Please advise, I will be grateful. Thanks.
Most welcome, doc! And I would need you to elaborate on the issue because I do not know what speeds are you shifting at, among other things. Can you make a short (under 30-second video) and share it with me on Instagram? Then I will be able to tell whether it's normal or do you need to take it to the service center. And if you are in Delhi/NCR, I will be happy to check your vehicle in person. 😃
innovative info I got from this video and found very useful too, just a question...what will be best practice to follow by driver for this IMT variant to derive best mileage and better engine life too
I know this is more than a year at this point, but I just got a bit interested in this iMT transmission mainly because the Carens T-GDi (who wouldn't like a practical MUV with such a powerful engine? 😉) is not offered with a manual transmission, being offered with the iMT instead. I have a few concerns with the transmission tech: 1. The long-term reliability of the whole setup with that enhanced complexity, including the extra sensors with the TCU (Transmission Control Unit) and brake, though for the brake, I know that pressing that and the accelerator together dampens accelerator input in manual cars due to the ECU knowing that the brake is being used. Maybe the same sensor setup is used for the iMT too, and the increase in parts and complexity might not be too much. 2. Releasing the brake and not pressing the accelerator pedal does not completely release the clutch, as you'd said. In bumper-to-bumper traffic, for example if traffic is moving far too slowly to warrant using the accelerator, instead just fully releasing the clutch and letting the idle RPMs move the car at a certain speed would not be possible. Using the accelerator to let the clutch fully engage would be dangerous in this case. 3. If one is driving at a slightly high speed on a rough patch of road, the gear stick's constant shaking might possibly confuse the intention sensor and make it inadvertently release the clutch, thereby possibly increasing wear rate. 4. Does it automatically rev-match when for example downshifting to get ready for an overtake? But your video was very helpful! Thanks a lot for this!
Thanks! 1) A regular manual's ECU isn't programmed this way. It doesn't need to be. As you won't be standing on the brake and accelerator at the same time. It's there in cars with torque converters, CVTs, and DSGs/DCTs. It's there to prevent transmission damage by boy racers who might keep the throttle and brake pressed at drag races for way too Whether it's there or not in the IMT shouldn't matter to you because you anyway won't be keeping both the pedals pressed for long, right? 2) You might not be able to give throttle in these situations but you can at least put it in neutral everytime you come to a stop. THAT would disengage the clutch and would simulate creeping in a regular manual. 3) Lol, NO. That would never happen if you're Sebastian Loeb. 4) No. It doesn't. It's not taking care of downshifts for you, right? It's only taking care of the clutch operation. 😃 Hope this helps!
Sir heavy traffic me clutch ko engage rakhne ke liye accelerator aur brake dono use karna hoga taki clutch khrab na ho......lekin traffic me accelerator kaise de sakte hai???

Hi. Very informative video, thanks. I've driven both manual and automatic transmission for years. On one hand I would love the convenience of an automatic by putting less strain on my knee. On the other hand, get the feeling of shifting gears. But looking at your video I'm getting the feeling this iMT thing might be a hassle. Also after reading the comments, some people are facing some real issues. This is a really great tech, kinda best of both worlds. So should I wait for it to improve and buy a new car new year?

Can we downshift while pressing the brakes? Eg: Can we downshift from 3 to 2, while we are slowing down the car by applying brakes? Basically, is it okay to downshift when brakes are pressed??
@@RealAutoReviews Yes But in the booklet of the car there is a caution that says - not to press brake pedal by mistake during gearshift. I think they probably mean to say that - dont use the brake like clutch by completely pressing it suddenly
@@imprakrut No no, that's not what it means. People coming from manual transmissions initially tend to press the brake pedal from the LEFT foot while shifting from 1st to 2nd. Muscle memory! That's why the manual says to NOT press the brake pedal while shifting gears. It's primarily for upshifts. Hope this helps 😃
Hello sir, great explanation of imt. Very informative. I have question. In case of driving in 6th gear and i want release the gear to neutral (without any braking) and coast along. Is it possible!? And if it is possible, is it good for longevity of imt.
Loved the explanation! I am planning to get Kia Carens Prestige Plus iMT Petrol. How is the response there? Also how reliable is iMT. Like If I drive properly will the clutch last for 10-12 years? I am shifting from WagonR (Obviously Manual)
Thanks, Mehul. See, if you can get Carens manual, that would be the best choice. However, if you really want to get rid of the clutch pedal, then iMT is the closest that you can get to a manual in terms of everything, including the cost of maintenance. Would it be as trouble-free and reliable in the long run as a manual? Let's say for a moment that it might not be. But you are eventually getting a transmission that allows you to rest your left leg for years. So I won't consider it a bad deal. Hope this helps! 😃
@@RealAutoReviews Thanks for the response! The major reason why I am choosing Carens is because of iMT. Or else I was also looking at Scorpio N z4 but that has only manual in my budget of 17L. Hi, Very informative video. However I own Hyunday venue sx imt and today I was stranded in middle of the road as mygear got stuck in Neutral and was not able shift gear. I had ti push the car to safe side.
Hey hi.. nice video tho, just a doubt, how will it do partial disengagement? When i am putting leg on brake, machine should automatically start pushing clutch if reqd. But when i am pressing the accelerator clutch should not function anymore right.. why this concept of disengagement then. I am talking about this car only, sonet htk plus imt
See, it's pretty simple really if we understand how a clutch works. Engagement is gradual in first gear, and I don't know why people forget that. That's why I made this video 😃 Hope it helps!

Thank you for the detailed explaination. I have Sonet IMT and this will help me a lot in the future. I have a question. In AMT and Automatic transmission, will the same mechanism applies or its different? I mean while creeping, will the clutch engage partially like in IMT and burn out the clutch in those two transmissions.
I’m thinking to buy sonet imt sir but as I’m a beginner who knows don’t know how to drive a manual. Buying this car will be good option for me or I should opt for manual ?
In ideal circumstances, it should last as long as the clutch of a regular manual. However, since we can't have the ideal circumstances, expect a bit less life than its fully manual counterpart 😃
@@rameshlal7424 well, no, because you don't have to spend money to "maintain" these parts. However, if, say, in the rare event of any of these parts failing, you would not only be stranded, but would also have to bear the cost of new parts. Whereas a fully manual gearbox has never failed on me in my over two and a half decades of driving. But I also haven't heard of anyone being stranded because his automatic's TCU/actuator/sensor conked off. So you don't have to be worried about it. But, since your question is whether a conventional manual is better economically and also more reliable than these new fads, the answer is an absolute YES! Hope this helps! 😃
When stopped at a slope and there is risk of car moving backwards if brake is not pressed, that time should we keep the gear in neutral and keep brake pressed or 1st gear and brake pressed?

I'm confused about iMT gearbox's performance in bumper to bumper traffic. You said try not to crawl coz that will keep the break and clutch engaged partially. But, how is it possible when it's too bad traffic and you need to crawl. I mean you cant wait everytime for the car ahead you to go too much distance and then you will start to release break to its full and then give some race and then break again.

Thanks a lot Boss , I have purchased Sonet HTX IMT in last week and new to driving, 1 I was doing the same mistake driving on first gear in traffic or in congested areas without pressing accelerator. Now will follow your suggested steps. 2 My query is when we are on 4th or 5th gear , and have to stop not emergency but say gradually, many times it happens that i completely reducing the speed to 10-15km ph and warning comes to shift the gear down , I will try to avoid by practice however want to know in those cases does it harms clutch or gear box?
@@RealAutoReviews Thanks for reply One more query , there are instructions written on the sun visor of car " avoid pressing breaks during gear shift, but I can't avoid this during 1st gear . Why is it written so? Any idea?
@ajitmarekar9574 Of course, it won't even shift into first gear (from neutral) if you don't press the brake! That warning is just for new drivers like you who might otherwise step on the brakes at every gear change. Hope this helps 😊
Hi ..sorry got confused in the end. Proper way is 1. Initiate gear change, if brake is pressed(generally in downshift )or brake is not pressed (generally in upshift), take a little accelerator to release the automatic clucth of car 2. Or After taking accelerator in step 1 again press break a little to release the automatic clutch of the car? Which one is correct 1 or 2?
So the correct way is: 1) Engage first gear, 2) release the brake, and 3) press the accelerator. Only doing 1 and 2 is bad. Step number 3 is crucial. Hope it's clear now 😃
nice explanation, I want to know can we shift from 3/4/5/6th gear to 1st directly like sports bike(Slipper Clutch Technology). I mean at 50kmph. I am asking because iMT uses rev matching during downshift.
Oh no, you should NOT brother. Motorcycles use sequential transmission: you can't shift to first directly from 6th! You will have to go 5-4-3-2 on a bike! In a manual or IMT, you can directly to 1st but you should NEVER do that, or else you will cause a lot of damage to your transmission and engine. In fact, even on a bike you won't go down from 6th to 1st, but even if you do, it will be in a scenario where you are braking hard already, and then the slipper mechanism takes care of the remaining difference. Otherwise, you WILL damage your GB and engine in a bike as well. You will crash too. Even in a race, you will mostly come down to 2nd and not 1st from sixth! Hope this helps 😃

Please answer my two questions:
1.As we release the brakes, the vehicle starts to disengage the clutch but it's done fully only when the accelerator is pressed, so we shall always ensure to press the accelerator after releasing the brakes for an efficient functioning??

Gear change time par acceleration se per uthayen ya halki acceleration mein gear change kar sakte hain. Kyunki usme lag kum milta hai
Har baar pair uthao smooth shifting ke liye. Fully manual gaadi mei jaise karte hain shift. 😊

Great info bhai. I would still prefer an AMT over an IMT though. This feels like its neither here nor there.
@@anandthepilot I somehow agree to that 😃
innovative info I got from this video and found very useful too, just a question...what will be best practice to follow by driver for this IMT variant to derive best mileage and better engine life too
Thank you so much. The best practice would be to follow what I said in the video. 😃
I know this is more than a year at this point, but I just got a bit interested in this iMT transmission mainly because the Carens T-GDi (who wouldn't like a practical MUV with such a powerful engine? 😉) is not offered with a manual transmission, being offered with the iMT instead. I have a few concerns with the transmission tech:
Hope this helps!
Sir heavy traffic me clutch ko engage rakhne ke liye accelerator aur brake dono use karna hoga taki clutch khrab na ho......lekin traffic me accelerator kaise de sakte hai???
Nahi nahi, bas rukne ke ekdam baad neutral kar do.

True that, and it's a wrong habit. 😃
The tech isn't flawed. The usage is. Just don't treat it like a conventional automatic, and you'll be sorted. 😃

Informative video. What abt the clutch life of IMT version over MT?
In ideal circumstances, it should last as long as the clutch of a regular manual. However, since we can't have the ideal circumstances, expect a bit less life than its fully manual counterpart 😃
@@RealAutoReviews So with that being said, I hope maintenance is little higher than manual due to intension sensor, TCU & Actuator. Right?

I'm confused about iMT gearbox's performance in bumper to bumper traffic. You said try not to crawl coz that will keep the break and clutch engaged partially. But, how is it possible when it's too bad traffic and you need to crawl. @@RealAutoReviews Thanks for reply
One more query , there are instructions written on the sun visor of car " avoid pressing breaks during gear shift, but I can't avoid this during 1st gear .
Proper way is
1. Initiate gear change, if brake is pressed(generally in downshift )or brake is not pressed (generally in upshift), take a little accelerator to release the automatic clucth of car
