man this brings me back, i ran this game back in 2012-2013 and remember thinking if there was just a way to remove cone crazy from the run this would be the perfect speedgame, i never could have imagined that not only would that happen but we would also remove SSA, doing those annoying dock jumps in boatyard, getting busted on ice cream, just about everything that was super annoying about the run has been removed. crazy how far this game has come
holy shit, my reaction for sub 1 was soooo bad xD wtf is this noise KEKW good memories :) this sub 57:30 (old timing) was so clean like 5 sec of the best possible to get that wasn't worth to even try to grind for better time. damnn i remember coming across adam ak stream few years ago and have been following vc speedrun scene ever since, now trying to run it myself finally interesting to see how things have changed within that time, like doing cone crazy strat is gone, replay glitch etc interesting video, love it and learned much things, hope this gets lots of views and good feedback, cause you deserve it 💯
Very nice video Ben ! Really well done. It's nice to finally see this progression in a video. I've seen a lot of WR progressions lately, but this has been my most wanted one yet ! Keep up the great work as always !
pretty awesome video, man. always love to see vice city, hope you make more stuff like this. only thing i could recommend is that a little tighter vocal editing goes a long way c:
Seeing those guns appear after he shot them from the bike. You know, when the enemy drops a weapon; Literally give me a nostalgic hit of dopamine!! Omg, like when I was 13 or some shit Haha. I'll never forget the feeling of them dropping a good gun before cheats where like everywhere and you had to get the magazine to get the cheats. Hashtag old man vibes at 27 🤣
I started getting heavily invested in the gta community because of Josh, S, and Adam. It feels weird to think it's been 6+ years already. Back when me learning the game on ps3 was kinda reasonable, With all the replay tech now I don't think I could get into it the same way again
@@englishben really? I just figured that not having replays would basically destroy any current routes in the trilogy. If everything is possible I just may get on the grind again. How bad would times be in relation to current strats would you think?
@@Rocker21344 Hard to say as console runs aren't nearly as popular or optimised. The current fastest console time is a 1:06, but that should be easily beatable
Nice video! One tip I could give if you ever make another wr progression video is to not show the texts from discord etc too long but try to find relevant footage for that improvement/skip. Loved the overall pacing! Keep making great vids
This is such an awesome video, thank you. I owe pretty much all of my interest in speedrunning to Adam and Narcissa, formerly Cosmo. Watching Vice City any%, all missions, 100%, chaos%, didn't matter, he always had such a good stream. Remember when everyone got pissed at twitch and he moved to hitbox for a night and the stream delay was around what we have today with low latency. This is in 2014, mind you! Cosmo with OoT, always loved watching the runs and I happened to get to see the famous 18:10 live :) Edit: Oh my gooood that reddit thread. I remember seeing that thread in the new section of /r/speedrun and going "wow I wonder how important this could be" Little did I know lol
I just saw the vice city speedrun world record (no ssu) using international version which is 8 years old. Are there no instapasses found on international version which could benefit this category? Or that version was completely abandoned?
It seems that instapasses occur only for missions that are triggered by player in vehicle. Like Cherry Poppers, Ambulance, Friendly Rivalry, Cabmegaddon , Demolition Man, Bombs Away, RC Raider , Checkpoint Charlie etc.
that music in the backround at the beginning sounds like something I heard on someones elses channel. I know its free to use music but I'm curious what it is .... because I like it . peace and nice video
Hey, great video! One thing I would really appreciate is if you actually wrote the names of the runners/their stream links on screen so that you support them more and I can find them without guessing on spelling and such. Thanks!
The issue with SA is that there's been one person on top of the main board for like 4 years, it's not as interesting as it sounds when something is so dominated.
There were people before and during CannibalK9 who were involved. Giving all the credit to K9 would be unfair, although it is reasonable to assume he did the bulk.
To disable the rampage pickup in replay to not start another rampage. Replay with picking up rampage also goes to the cheapest property you can buy in a game and since you cannot buy properties during rampage it is essential to disable rampages
Eyo just finished my gta sa remastered android badlands speedrun, well i did some fuck-ups, i will be last if they accpeted my run, im 56min but if i didnt fail bc the car coudnt stick to the ground in the second CV race i woyldve got like 50min
It's a very well put together video, I only wish you had edited out your verbal stumbles (stuff like "When starting Cap the Collector, the mission will fail if they have no left... assets left to tax" at 26:16 and "as it is moch... much closer" at 26:25), as there's just a few too many, and it makes the video feel a little unprofessional to me.
Fair criticism, I did edit out a few big stumbles and rerecord some sections. However ones like that I didn't think they were noticeable enough to edit them out
I haven't even watched 30 seconds of this video yet, but you say VC was created in "under a year"? Not even close! It's GTAIII with different maps, a better storyline, and some different controls...but the same engine. It took muuuuuuch more than a year.
Speedruns stop being fun when major glitches get involved. It just seems very pointless. I also don't think praising people who use glitches for world records and other scoreboards. these kind of glitches have become easier for people to use in multiplayer games. People getting through walls where their opponents can't get them for example. But because they're called a discovery and praised it goes ignored and unpunished. plus seriously. what is the enjoyment is saying you completed vice city in 8 minutes. anyone they tell who's ever played a video game will know its not legitimate and is significantly less enjoyable than even using some kind of infinite ammo/health/money cheat. This kind of speed running is quickly devolving into who can find a way to glitch the ending credits as soon as the game begins, which maybe a record. it may be a game in itself. but its certainly no longer a speed run of playing the actual game. I don't see an issue with exploits that confuse the ai into taking the wrong car or using normal mechanics in none intended ways to speed things up. but glitching walls and skipping entire chunks of the game just devalues everything they set out to achieve.
If I explained every single glitched used in over a decade of speedrunning, the video would be 10 hours long. I explain the key ones that caused significant damage to the game, traffic manipulation isn't one of them. Also nice edit of your comment, if you're going to trash talk at least stick by your views.
@@englishben If you shortly explained every glitch mentioned, the video would barely get any longer. A link in the description and a mention of it is all it takes when short explanation doesn't do justice. I edited the comment as I watched further, where all of a sudden reasonably detailed explanations started to appear and the video got better.
