I've noticed over the years if I leave tulips in pots they end up as lots of tiny bulblets that never seem to flower again, plant them deeply (over a foot or more) in the ground and they flower reliably every year undisturbed, even the large flowered hybrids, and even on our unamended heavy clay
I plant Fosteriana and Viridiflora tulips, and the variety T. Ballerina, planting them a foot deep in the ground, and they reliably return year in year. Not so sure about tulips in pots.

I think when i do replant these in the ground in the autumn I'll 'go deep'. Thank you Laural for watching and commenting. Mark
