I’ve been researching the quad cortex for over a year now and at some point I plan on purchasing one. With this update I think it takes an already amazing product and makes it almost in a league entirely on its own. The fact that many professional musicians tour with this speaks volumes about how good it is. I loved this video Mark you are my favorite reviewer brother. You’re thorough and I can tell when you truly believe in the product you’re reviewing. Cant wait to hear this cortex in your regular pedal board chain and see what ambient goodness you can come up with! I’d love like a 2 hour deep dive in the cortex with your pedal board at some point bud!
@taylormesa not yet but they are getting closer. I had mine when it first came out and with no pc control. it wasn't very good at launch and had lack of updates. At least they have kept their eye on the ball. It's now much more usable. I'll still keep my FM9 just in case!
@@r.llynch4124thanks for the reply! I was hoping some of the plugin fx may be better than the stock delays. But as their update said, they have plenty of updates coming. Hopefully, once the PCOM is done they can focus on improving some of the other amps/fx.
Awesome video, Mark! Always appreciate your time and enthusiasm! I have to say the only real issue I've come across is new sluggishness introduced while navigating the QC after the OS3 update. I'm sure it will be addressed as they continue to work the small bugs out. Cheers!
As a bass player I really like the Gojira Octaver! It has big time OC-2 vibes which is a great pedal for bass and feels better to me than the other octave devices they have in the unit, at least for bass. The transparent blend is an awesome tool for us too! Thanks for the great video as always, Mark.
It's all good to me! Looking forward to eventually being able to port our user presets over from the QC, can't quite do that yet. But the PCOM integration is fantastic. And the new Circular delay is impressive, very Strymon Volante-ish. Has me excited for future fx, feels like the algos are getting better. Also lays to rest paywall fears, they're including free counterparts to a lot of the plugin features and devices. Now let's just see how quickly future updates roll in, they've almost turned the corner!
@@markjohnstonofficial this was just one of many features they promised that took 3+ years. I spent alot of money on my QC and they didnt deliver, And thats why I wont f*uck with Neural any longer.
@@markjohnstonofficial yeah. They made a lot of promises then released a product that wasn’t finished. I guess they technically pivoted and called it a profiler. But still. Kind of crazy.
Hi Mark I have a question: in your video at time 12:15 to 12:20 you activate the transposer by pressing switch „a“ and deactivate by letting it loose. As far as I can see it, you don‘t have to put it twice 😳🤔🧐. Am I right? How does this work? I can‘t find a way to do this, and it would be very, very handy… Thanks in advance. Rock on! accu
looks to me like he's pressing it twice, just quickly with small movements. "Momentary" switching isn't available yet, except with the Freeze Block. Hopefully it'll be added eventually
Not sure if possible but you may be able to capture that plugin using the Neural Capture feature. I haven't tried it myself but there is a video out there about capturing plugins.

I know the Cortex users have been waiting a long time for this. Hope it improves lives. Cheers, Daniel
After 2 decades of using Fractal, I'm finally moving into the QC world. Excellent review!
Ya, I remember you viscerally HATED QC! Do you feel like they have caught up with Fractal in the FX (delays/verbs) area?

Omg I can’t believe it. Well welcome back.

Dude your tracks always sound so fucking great and massive

Beautiful intro!
Great video man, really good job
Realmente fenomenal 👏🏻
Hey man, how do you like your Kaizen ? I just picked up the exact same as you and this is by far my number one axe !
Mark are you on the app with your presets? That sounded great.
As of today, you can’t move your modified plug-in presets across to the QC.
I’m still shocked they didn’t get sued. lol. I say that as a fan of Neural DSP.
Why would they get sued? For modelling amps?
For taking longer than people expected to get to plugin compatibility?
He probably means by Kemper for the profiling. And you can't be sued for not delivering on most of your promises for years, or maybe you can. 😂

@@markchristianson31 yes, I looked at it in slow motion - he‘s very quick😉👍🏼
Thanks
Will you be able to use plugins that aren’t from NeuralDSP? If so Ima need to use the Valhalla Shimmer
No.
Not sure if possible but you may be able to capture that plugin using the Neural Capture feature. I haven't tried it myself but there is a video out there about capturing plugins.
The capture process is only for “static” effects like drives, amps, etc. it doesn’t work for time based stuff like modulation, delay, reverb.
🔥🫶
3 years too late.
not really I’d say just in time
Cant be too late because there's no other modeler that can load their plugins and use each element of the plugin separately.
