Sir, I salute you, where at 16:10 it was said, " Pressure, what pressure, compared to the pressure shouldered by engineers, we have no pressure". It is about time that some people realise that engineers carry responsibility for passengers, pilots and people on the ground, while pilots are trained to save their own lives and in only doing that they are assisting others. There is a lot of psychology in getting people to fly in an imperfect machines, all built with imperfect materials, all of which need to be guaranteed for continuous operation both in normal and abnormal situations. Engineers are CONTINUOUSLY saving lives during normal and not normal operations, of cars, planes, ships, trains, bridges, etc even in their absence. The psychology of getting people to fly as passengers and pilots and crew in a plane is an issue that is not so transparent as it is better to keep it that way!
I'm sick and tired of all this Boeing vs Airbus crap. I personally just love jet airliners, I think they are awesome no matter who they are built by. Respect to them all!
Qasz Rewd The SQ A380 products are nearly 10 years old, of course EY, QR, and EK who took their deliveries later in the year is going to surpass SQ. But what you clearly forgot to mention is SQ will be debuting a new Suite Class product as well as a new business class cabin in 2 months.
I get to watch this plane fly over Chico,California everyday around 2pm on its way to San Francisco 300 miles to my south. It's the lufthansa flight so its flying from Germany.
i m sure challenges were way bigger and critical than what's described in here, committing to delivery deadline with high possibility of unexpected complex issues to deal with is no joke when talking about "airliners", rushing things is a extremely dangerous and delays is bad for business - mission impossible :)
Okay right. The fire issue when testing at low temperature. Wasn't it the same problem that almost caused a crash some time ago? An oil leak? There were no comments made about it, they just fixed and tried to run the engines again.
A 380 is just a white elephant !!! It will never break even. Just a single passenger variant, which is struggling to find new customers. The 747-8 has both passenger and cargo variant, with Lufthansa and Korean Air already bought the 747-8. In case the passenger variant don't get sales Boeing can sell cargo variant to operators like Volga Dnepr and Cargolux. Remember Boeing has 90% of air freighter market !
+Nakul Dalakoti Nobody cares about the air freighter market, that's a small percentage of the overall sales for manufacturers of passenger jets. Most freights go by *ship* or by *train* and a hell of a lot goes by *truck* . Air freights is a niche market and the Russian and Ukrainians already have that one covered. Also I wouldn't call an airliner with 317 sales so far a white elephant. That's intellectually dishonest, but when did you rabid muppets ever grow out of belief bias? Things change. Mega projects are only seen as successes or failures after 30 years on the market. The long-term investment is what counts. So far it's not even been 10 years in traffic and survived a crisis in the world economy - none of which it had anything to do with and which doesn't deter from the design itself. For the airlines it's definitely not a white elephant, fact is they're the ones making all the profit from it if not the factory itself at this point. Now, airlines making a profit for themselves *is* what drives the market and should the price go down on air travel... well you figure that one out yourself. The market has stagnated for now...but it will pick up. You see there comes a point when all the airlines in the world will have to replace their 30 year old 747's and what will they replace them with? Regional jets? I don't think so. Sonys Playstation 3 was called a fiasco too back in 2007. It turned around midway through its life and is still being manufactured. It passed its rivals in monthly sales in 2008-2009-2010. Air freighter market?? Talk about missing the big picture.
+Anthony Abelardo Official price of an a380 was about 900 000 000€ but the real price is currently about 450 000 000€ Yet, this is still the most expensive airliner ever....
Léo VanWillem what is that in USD? It's a thing where the cost doesn't matter. When it operates all the time and shuttles people all over the world then.. the cost doesn't matter.. because it's all paying the banks when the banks don't need much more money because they always operate and everything operates so cost doesn't matter.
I sure as heck hope these folks are referring to just a passenger airliner because if not, they dont know their facts too well...the AN 225 is bigger...and they arent motors they are engines
+compteck7 AN-225 is considered as AN225"Experimental". It has never been certificated. So it is not propper civil aviation, same for the A300-600ST BELUGAS. Now, if you want facts, here are the records: Most passengers: A380 Heaviest Payload: AN-225 "Mirya" Largest Payload: A300-600ST "Beluga"
+Léo VanWillem I dont know where you got your info from..if it was not certified, it isnt landing in Canada or US and in fact it has numerous times.."The US Federal Aviation Administration defines a large aircraft as any aircraft with a certificated maximum takeoff weight of more than 12,500 pounds (5.7 tonnes) ...you are right that the Beluga isnt on the list but the AN225 is as well as the 747 Dreamlifter...the Beluga has a restricted certification...ohh and largest payload.."The main deck cargo volume of the Beluga is greater than that of the C-5 Galaxy or the Antonov An-124 but still smaller than Antonov An-225"
+Léo VanWillem Well, the 747 holds the record for the most people evercarried, I forget exactly which African Country's citizens needed to be evacuated quickly.......but over a 1,000 people were crammed in the 747 passenger compartment. A380 is White Elephant..........Airbus will lose money on everyone delivered.......and now is begging for 20-50 Billion Euros more from the European Commission to keep the program afloat with updated Turbo Fans and fix the structural issues which Airbus has yet to resolve. Most A380s flying are outfitted with 450+ seats in Three Class Configuration (not much more than a typical 777-300/747 used on short/long haul International flights). The Carriers that have purchased the A380 are State Owned/State Subsidized Carriers that hide the true operating-costs and losses involved in its operation. Large Efficient (ETOPS) Twins are the Present and Future. I think NASA carried (at one time) the largest load by (sheer volume) ever on its B-29/Stratocruiser Air-frame (aka)>>>Super-Guppy.....same planes that Airbus used for decades to move around planes parts/pieces.
Did anyone notice when doing the splash test she had her speed brakes and 2 engine reversers deployed before she hit the water? Defeats the purpose of hitting the water at take off speed really as the test requires doesn't it??? This and the minimum take off speed test were flawed...
Consrignrant is right though. Do you know how much runway they have to work with? Consider a full runway, but they are using HALF of it to accelerate then the other HALF to decelerate. Otherwise they will run out of runway to use! They can't do a full-brake because that destroys the wheels and you don't want that in a test. Edit: After watching a few Reject Take offs, it's probably because the tires and/or brakes are wet so the aircraft needs a longer distance to come to a complete stop.

I could barely get through watching this video because of the gloom and doom way the story was told. Very annoying. Nice aircraft but I'm not sure about the engines. An engine exploded two minutes into the climb from takeoff and did a lot of damage to the wing of an A380. Problem was caused by a defect in an oil tube during production.
Boeing using old outdated tech, while Airbus using advanced Computers. I feel much safer in Airbus with latest Technology than old junk of boeing. No Comparison, Airbus Is far safer. All the major boeing accident were due to design/mechanical failures while most of the airbus crashes have been pilot Error. More people just prefer Boeing since it has been around earlier than AirBus, People have a tendency to favor the a mover rather than a new competition, i can't understand why.Sure Boeing planes look beautiful, but its the safety, fuel, quietness, more passenger, and latest technology that matters, and Airbus Dwarfs Boeing in these areas.
It's not easy to design, test and manufacture such an aircraft. Props to Airbus for taking risks and doing a good job.

Yes, you know more about testing multi-million dollar aircraft than Airbus does. Posting such a foolish comment shows that your brain is "flawed".
Consrignrant
As does your reply. Go back and read the comment again and listen to the video, you might just understand more...
