I thinking I’ve settled on this dress after looking at lots of patterns. I really enjoyed your video and your dress is beautiful. I looked for the Cloth House in Berwick Street recently and was sad to see it’s moved, it was a lovely shop. I was looking at the stop button on your machine in surprise as I hadn’t seen that before. I think I might stick with my foot pedal for the reasons you mentioned. My machine recently needed a repair so I had to use my grandmother’s hand crank Singer. It was a bit tricky sewing with only my left hand and my foot kept trying to find a non-existent pedal under the table!
I love the dress and the fabric. Thank you for introducing me to a new fabric shop. I love their fabrics 😊 To answer your question regarding the sewing machine, mine is a vintage Singer machine from early 1970s. It was gifted to me by my husband’s grandmother. It’s a lovely machine which I get serviced from time to time. I’ve bought several feet for it and even an automatic buttonholer. I love it and I hope I manage to look after it so it lasts forever. It is a pedal machine, by the way 😊
Thanks so much 😊 the fabric is really, really lovely. Cloth House have so many beautiful hand-blocked cottons, I recommend them - the deep red of this one is perfect for me.
You really have a good understanding of what colours suit you! This red really looks lovely on you. I find it so hard to know what my ‘palette’ is but you’ve really nailed yours in all your fabric choices I think. Lovely vid x
Thank you! I did a few quizzes about colour palettes and they mostly said I'm soft autumn, and that warm, muted colours suit me. I tend to stick to them (but it also happens to be what I like to wear!)
Looks beautiful lovely choice of fabric and pattern, love Merchant and Mills, just finished their Miller waistcoat and you have inspired me to try this dress :)
Lovely dress and beautifully made! Happy birthday 🥳!! I wish you a really happy year with lots of creativity!! By the way I have a Janome s7 also with the buttons. But I still.. use my feed. Easier with slippery fabrics.
Happy Birthday :) the dress looks lovely :D it is nice to take the time for every little detail to be just so. You asked what kind of machine we sew on, I sew on a treadle sewing machine, so taking my time is pretty important ;)
Hello, yes I always do if it's the sort of fabric that I'll wash in the machine 😊 Fabric can shrink the first time and otherwise you could end up with clothes that shrink.
Thank you! I think I'm usually inspired by fabric first, then choose a pattern to match it :) sometimes I see something for sale in a shop, and get inspired to recreate something similar!
Thanks Linda - I know I responded to your Ig question but thought I'd answer on here too, in case anyone else wonders. I ended up using about 4m, but it was a very narrow fabric, and I was trying to pattern match 😊
Lovely dress 😍 I’ve got the Etta pattern but still hunting for the perfect material as it needs so much 3.5 metres I think , hopefully it will be done by next summer 24’
Thank you 😊 it does use a lot of fabric which caught me out! I hope you enjoy yours when you find the perfect fabric - I think it's such a lovely pattern.
Absolutely lovely and very inspirational. I really look forward to your videos. You have a great style. Can I ask what the pattern is for the pink shirt you are wearing while you hand stick. It is very pretty.
Hey 😊 it was part of the pattern instructions. It helps the lining lie flat inside the bodice, instead of rolling around where it could be seen. Plus I think it looks lovely 😊
Thank you 😊 yes, I do! Not necessarily for every day, but often out for dinner or something special. I also layer it over t shirts and jumpers in cooler weather 🍂

Ah I'm glad you like it, they have lots of lovely printed cottons in particular 😊 your machine sounds so special! I hope it lasts and lasts for you 🥰
Beautiful dress! Just ordered the pattern and the black cotton in the picture
Ah lovely! I hope you enjoy it 😊
It looks gorgeous on you
Thank you 😊
Such a beautiful dress, I love the soft cotton, you have inspired me! I love your slow approach to sewing, there is no rush.
Ah lovely. I really recommend the cotton 😊 I used to rush, but the process is much more enjoyable now, and the pieces are better made!
Lovely dress. It has a “Toast” vibe which I really like . hope you had a great birthday.
Thank you! I adore Toast, so I'm sure that influenced me 😊
Your dress is lovely, happy belated birthday.👩🌾👩🌾👩🌾
Thank you so much 😊
This was marvellous to watch so many tips I’ve just cut the pattern out making mine in white linen
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I hope yours is going well! 😊
The fabric is just stunning and it is the colour I would have chosen for myself! Hope you had a wonderful birthday too.
Thanks so much 😊 the fabric is really, really lovely. Cloth House have so many beautiful hand-blocked cottons, I recommend them - the deep red of this one is perfect for me.
it turned out so well, love the commitment to making the details really lovely! :)
Thanks so much! I'm really glad I took the time over it, it feels really special 😌

Thank you! I've also made that waistcoat and loved it - I hope you enjoyed it too :)
Really nice!
Thank you 😊
I have this exact pattern on a bandana! I love it!
It's a lovely print 😊
Very cute! Happy Birthday! :)
Thank you so much 😀

Thanks so much! I think I'll end up reattaching the foot pedal, it feels like you have more control with one :)

Just one question do you wash your fabric before sewing it?
Hello, yes I always do if it's the sort of fabric that I'll wash in the machine 😊 Fabric can shrink the first time and otherwise you could end up with clothes that shrink.
Indeed it’s so lovely! How do you choose patterns, fabrics and yarns? How do you plan your makes?
Thank you! I think I'm usually inspired by fabric first, then choose a pattern to match it :) sometimes I see something for sale in a shop, and get inspired to recreate something similar!
Love your birthday dress x what fabric did you ? And how much fabric xx❤

Thank you, that's so lovely to hear 😊 the shirt is the Gilbert Top by Helen's Closet - it's a great pattern.
❤
😊
What is the edge stitching you did once you had attached the lining? Is that just for the look? 😊
Hey 😊 it was part of the pattern instructions. It helps the lining lie flat inside the bodice, instead of rolling around where it could be seen. Plus I think it looks lovely 😊
Beautiful dress. Do you still wear it’s?
Thank you 😊 yes, I do! Not necessarily for every day, but often out for dinner or something special. I also layer it over t shirts and jumpers in cooler weather 🍂
love the dress!! but I would have pressed the paper and fabric first !
Thanks 😊 I did press the fabric, but I've never pressed the paper!
Did you make a size 10
Looking at their size chart, I imagine I graded between a 10 and 12 for the bodice and made a size 10 for the skirt :)
