I had one of these a decade ago on route at a laundromat. Made good money! Had an issue with it once and Smart was able to help me out over the phone. Great company. I recently found two dead ones I'm going to try and get running and route them. EDIT: Props for the ROM download, subbed!
I love these machines. All the good qualities of a vintage crane but in a size that I can load into a pickup without help. Sadly I was never able to find a location for these. I ended up moving from Georgia to Kentucky shortly afterwards, so I sold them. I had kept a large Clean Sweep crane for my personal collection, but it was so heavy that I ended up selling it too. Now I'm wishing I had kept one or both of these for my personal collection, as I now don't have a proper crane. Best wishes on fixing yours. I assume you're familiar with the mechanics of them and can get them running. If not, send me a message and I will help you however I can.
So the BAD ROM Chip that has the GAME code was not storing/saving the setting into the SRAM giving an error code 0178? That seems weird that a Bad ROM chip would give a RAM error code plus not saving the settings into a good working SRAM chip.
My first solution would be to look on ebay. I know it's expensive, but there isn't much choice. As well, Smart Industries is still in business and they've often got replacement parts. www.smartind.com/ Lastly, you could go all out and install a new gantry and PCB, but that's going to be the most expensive option (I haven't checked to see if this is the right size, btw. Just an example of one of the kits). www.ebay.com/itm/154829534291?hash=item240c8f3453:g:pawAAOSwywZh0vbQ Before you do any of that, if your motor is just running slow or gets locked up, I'd recommend relubricating the worm gear (and all the other gears on the gantry). Smart used a lubricant that gets sticky and gummed up over time. Feel free to reach out with any other questions.
@@coin-opcorner bro, thankyou i didnt expect you to answer. This is also really in depth as well! The motor is completely broken and I bought a replacement off of ebay, but it doesn't work.. I think I might have to go to alibaba or aliexpress to buy a replacement, thankyou for your time!
@@Robot831 Have you checked the wiring to the motor to see if it's even getting voltage? If two motors in a row don't work, I would be suspect of the wiring, and then the transistor on the PCB.
@@coin-opcornerit moves left and right, but when I press drop it doesn't go down. i went to check the motor and they motor is dead stiff... I stupidly cut out the wires to add a new motor not knowing it was going to be near impossible to find the exact kind. I think the gantry is working, but the motor is just broken
Is there an online manual for something like this? I bought one that’s got smart industries tech inside of it. I got it on Facebook so it didn’t come with a manual. I’ve looked online to see what the different settings mean but nothing I’ve found makes any sense
There should be a small board with the volume control / claw strength control on it. There's a button on that that lets you go through different settings.
@@coin-opcorner could you send me pictures of the inside of your machine. I don't have another board with volume control... but I have all the sounds it makes when the gantry moves and clay drops. Problem is no power to the claw or gantry motors but the pcb recognized when the gantry safety stop switches are pressed.

@@coin-opcorner Just started troubleshooting them today. One has a code 77 on the lower display. You don't have a manual do you?

You have to buy them from Smart Industries, if you can get them on the phone. They can send you a digital version of the manual.
@@coin-opcorner I gotta buy this after already owning a machine⁉️
@@Reece_McMillan Yeah, they have the copyright to the manual still. Lots of old pinball companies do the same thing.
How do you adjust the settings. I have the same exact crane and all the same issues.
