There are so many positive reasons to stay, and so many exciting reasons to move!

How about this idea?? Get an RV and travel the country full time. Do it for a year and then decide! So many are doing this option now especially if you can work from anywhere with internet!

Stay in Asheville and travel. As far as a home location in my opinion, I don't think you can beat it. Plus NC is such a beautiful state near so many other beautiful states- the options are endless. My vote is to stay and drive/fly out for diversity.

@@KurtandSara Reply 1 of 2 Why not consider Canada!? There are cities and towns in Canada that historically enjoy warmer winters than Asheville - as defined by a warmer average winter temperature (December, January, and February).
If you dig a little bit deeper, you'll discover the source for the information (below) is NOAA (a US government agency!). So please copy/paste the following google searches (specifically Google’s search engine!). And don't forget to factor in the ultra-mild Canadian winter nights.

      1. Asheville, North Carolina average winter temperatures
      2. Race Rocks, Canada average winter temperatures
Are you surprised by the fact the winters are warmer in Race Rocks, Canada than Asheville, NC?

      @@KurtandSara Reply 2 of 2
Victoria, Canada is a city that's only 10 miles from Race Rocks. It is extremely tourist-like AND extremely outdoor lifestyle. It enjoys year-round golf in its valleys (and year-round skiing in the mountains!), with more hiking trails than you can disturb in a lifetime!
Its winters are - of course - also very mild. Only slightly cooler than Race Rocks! And it is arguably the most beautiful nature on the planet! Also - I remember hearing it has more restaurants - per capita - than anywhere in North America (perhaps the world?).

I am in a similar situation of wanting to know what living is like in a totally different place. I have only lived in California and am currently living in the beautiful Monterey Bay area. Which really is perfect in every way except that it is crazy expensive here. I am looking at Asheville NC as my potential big change place to check out. I'm looking for a place that is artsy, full of nature, good weather (not too hot or cold) and has a diverse population - meaning not all white. I also wouldn't be comfortable seeing Confederate flags everywhere. Still trying to figure it out.
The Southwest is beautiful and full of culture. You both are young and if you are able to move around and experience different places, that's the most perfect way to decide where your favorite place is- if you ever want to permanently settle down somewhere in your future!
Washington State around the Puget Sound area is beautiful as well as Idaho around Boise area.
    Happy Trails!

Thank you very much for the nice comment. I would say that Asheville has a lot of what you are looking for (Nature, good weather and Artsy scene) but I would definitely visit the area and see for yourself. Like all places there are really great things about this area and some not so great also. However, we find the people to be very friendly and the nature is outstanding!!
We would love to visit Washington and maybe move there one day it the cards are right. There are just so many places it can be hard to know where to start, lol.
Good luck with your travels and we hope you enjoy your next adventure!

Hey Kurt and Sara. I like Young at Heart's suggestion to get an RV. Spend 6 months to a year on a tour of the country and then decide. Before I retired to Italy I lived in 5 States and one other country. I have to admit that of all the places that I lived in the U.S, Northern, California was my favorite. You should definitely check out Healdsburg, Sonoma and Calistoga. If I had money I would probably have built a tiny home in Mill Valley among the Redwood Trees though.

Ty lovely folks for shareing the majestic beauty of Asheville!
Grandma raised Dad in Asheville at her family’s impressive home there.
My Great Grandfather was Montgomery Taft Legg the CFO in the United States Army for President Coolidge...interesting to note we are direct descendants of William Howard Taft 27th President of USA!
Asheville is stunning with it’s diverse terrain.. we were able to locate my family’s home via a photograph of my Grandma’s from the 1940’s!
Once 911 emergency services was implemented in Asheville, the house number changed. We were blessed to discover the home my father grew up in and only a few changes occurred over the years from its original grandeur! My parents eloped from Marcellus, NY and were married at the Episcopal Chapel nestled in downtown Asheville on a lovely knoll . 💗
I love Asheville! Have you checked out the Bohemian hotel? A terrific artsy hotel that boasts enchanting decor as one can imagine! It’s sister hotel is in St. Auggie, Fl haven’t stayed in that hotel yet however it’s on the”to do list”! Obtw... we resided in EB NJ!! & I’m a great fan of Asbury Park!! thrilled to see investors finally taking notice of that quirky cool sea shore town!!!
Have you located Actress Andie MacDowells
    Abode yet in Asheville?
Ty for the lovely footage of Asheville .... will be down for a visit to Asheville soon during relocation journey ... yet another New Yorker heading outta here in droves......

Free wine and orderves every weekend, free stuff from the take and leave, cheep designer clothes at thrift shops. Free food at the Nantucket Pantry, free best clams and scallops in the world, trade them for fish on the charter piers, shower at the boat basin, where the millionaires dock. Cook on their dock grill they never use. Wave to Bill Belicheck in his blue yacht. The Outhouse Races are AMAZING and you're right, it would be hard to move away from them. But I can't help thinking about all the other great events out there that I still need to SEE!! Haha!

Banff - By far the most picturesque place we visited, and amazingly accessible. Like national parks in Europe, the city center is inside the park. At Lake Louise, don't skip the hike up to the Tea House. It's a bit of a climb, but you can't complain...the staff hikes the supplies up, and the trash down each day.
Bend, OR - On our list of possible places to live, but lacking a little bit of the bohemian vibe we sense in Asheville. It's a beautiful place we would definitely visit again.
Santa Barbara, CA - Too expensive to live there, but the views of the ocean are stunning. :) We lived in San Diego for years, and the views only get better as you travel up the coast. Take the 1 up to Big Sur near Carmel too.
Yosemite, CA - Half Dome and El Capatain are epic in their size\scope. Take the Mist Trail Hike!
Vancouver, BC - This city has everything! It's clean, filled with natural beauty, a lot of botanical gardens. Stanley Park is a place you explore for weeks.
Yellowstone - We made the mistake of going to Glacier NP after Banff, so it seemed like a let down only in comparison. Yellowstone didn't though. We traveled from campsite to campsite circling through the park. We stopped daily by a beautiful lake for lunch, and almost always had it to ourselves. Seeing the Bison herd, and The Grand Prismatic was incredible.
Boise, ID - This was a surprise for us. Downtown Boise is a very cool walkable place with great places to eat, coffee shops, etc.
Cannon Beach, OR - Beautiful coast, and quaint town. Haystack Rock that you see in the movie, Goonies, is something to see in person from the beach.
Harris Beach State Park (Brookings, OR) - I'm not sure Brookings has much of a draw, but this campground is a place we would definitely visit again for its beauty.
Bozeman, MT - We didn't get to spend much time there, but it seemed like a cool town to come back to explore more.
Snoqualmie, WA & Bellvue, WA - Bellvue is a much cooler city next to Seattle, and Snoqualmie its nature escape.
This is about 1/10 of what we saw, but this reply is starting to seem like a Fodor's guide. lol See it all! :)
Only 14 days until we see if Asheville tops the list of our what's next!
      Take care, and stay healthy!

I truly think you two should stay there again.
I fell in love with Asheville but my husband & I had talks with each other about him working with his sisters husband on the road a lot & look into buying into a house quicker but as a single mom it was hard to not have him around anymore especially for our kids so we moved to my hometown Wilmington NC.
Don't get me wrong I love my family & the beach but it doesn't feel the same without Asheville NC.
Broke a lot of hearts when we left & miss all of them truly so me & my Husband decided to move back to Asheville in a few years & save up money to buy and own a home in Asheville.
Asheville is a true definition of Unconditional love & so much support & programs.
Music, Art, Organic, Hiking & Waterfall, Camping, Shopping for interesting things especially art & such beauty.
I would definitely own a home & have a goal to experience other places around the world while having your own home.
It would be awesome to experience you two buying a home in Asheville.

Prepare to spend five times as much if you move out west. I actually used to live in Asheville North Carolina and I live in the high Rockies now. I tell you I didn't expect homes and things like that to be four times more expensive. Median home cost here is about 450k+ for anything in a desirable area. However we have the beautiful Rockies and I love my 80 inches of annual snow. No humidity all summer long is nice too. If the high prices don't scare you off look into it. I warn you though anywhere desirable in the High Rockies the prices just keep going up and up and up as more people are moving out of California and moving here. I blame Instagram

@@KurtandSara Believe It or Not Jersey is still cheaper than out west. The only place more expensive than outwest currently is San Francisco or Manhattan. Just keep that in mind depending on where you go. I mean there's a lot of areas in Montana and Colorado that makes San Francisco look cheap. Also if you live at a high elevation they have to pay all Truckers Hazard pay therefore gas prices go up by about 2 to $3 a gallon and stay that way all winter. Before Instagram no one moved these areas. I mean the amount of people moving to these areas didn't just go up after the birth of Instagram they went up by about 1000-2000%.

Hey, so it’s my first time viewing your channel. And I really like Young at Heart Adventures idea to get an RV and travel. And I was thinking maybe you wouldn’t necessarily want to travel full-time but that way you could go on vacation and bring your dog with you. On the other hand, if you both really want to relocate My recommendation would be Washington State I don’t know if you guys have ever been there before. However, what’s really cool about WA is that it’s probably one of the most ecologically diverse states for example .Eastern WA is Desert ,Western WA has two rainforests, In Western WA there is the pacific ocean, of course there’s Puget sound ,also the lesser known Georgia straight and straight of Juan de Fuca. I personally love the San Juan Islands because you can go whale watching. The San Juan islands is home to the southern resident orcas. This is the only resident pod of orcas in the United States. Because they are residents they stay in San Juan Islands for majority of the year usually go away in the winter. They mainly eat salmon and like their cousins the transient orcas which eat other marine mammals and are also commonly seen in the area.Other whales seen in the area are humpback,Grey, Minke also there are seals and sea lions .I think you both would really love the mountains in WA, which unfortunately comes with 5 active volcanoes.

there are not going to be many places better than Asheville, but there are good and interesting things almost anywhere, as long as you pick your spots carefully. Funny thing is, my wife and I currently live in San Diego and are looking at this general region between N and S Carolina and Tennessee. Asheville is a very nice spot, for all the reasons you have stated. New Mexico is really nice if you can afford Santa Fe, but other than that, very high crime and poverty.
All things being equal, you are young, you like new things. You could always move back, I would try a new spot and see what you think. But you do live in a slice of heaven and while you can find something new and different, even equally nice, nothing is really going to be much better. It just depends on you two and what you like around you. Good luck, I imagine you have already made your decisions and it has already happened. I will look in your feed to see.

My girl and I are moving to the west coast when our lease is up. I like Asheville a lot, beautiful place, but you have to really be into the abstract hippy type of stuff everyone's into. So if you're moving here and you're a people person, you should probably dye your hair neon green, stop showering, shave half your head & take up pottery. You'll be good then. Oh, & there's an awesome music scene here if you're a musician, as long as you make 1980's bluegrass music 🤙

Grew up in Morristown NJ, moved to San Diego in 2000. CA has gone downhill every year since I've been here. Looking to North Carolina by October 2022. Asheville is on my radar. CA is beautiful, however, everywhere you go, there are 12,532 people doing the same thing to get out of town on the weekends. There is no such thing as being alone! Taxes, politics, gas prices, gun laws, freedom....all the worst here. I pay $3K per month to live in a two bedroom condo in Carlsbad, CA. I would rather buy a home. Hey, also an art major in college (NJ) and I do photography and Graphic Design, professionally, to this day. How's the wedding/event/corporate market in Asheville. I've got enough money saved for 6 months w/o and income to rebuild my business elsewhere. I'll probably also get a job bar tending in the meantime. Lots of experience behind the bar while I was building my photo business, but I've had my own studio her in San Diego since 2004. Thanks for the video, you guys seem coolio!

    • @KurtandSara
      @KurtandSara  3 года назад

Oh nice, a fellow NJ person! Yeah, CA seems pretty intense lately. Asheville could be a cool option for you, but it's very small (the city has about 90k people!) and there aren't tons of corporate-type jobs - it's better if you have remote work, in my opinion. I'm not sure about the wedding/event market. I'm sure there is some, but I would visit and see if you could get a job first, or at least put some feelers out. I think you could get a bar tending job though. Greenville SC is another nice area that sounds like it might fit your lifestyle, and bigger - more jobs. It's near mountains too, though in a flatter area. People are moving there a lot as well. Apartments are half the price you're paying! I wish you lots of luck finding your next home town! And thank you for watching! :)
