CDV Removal DIY (Works on A90 Supra, G8X M2/M3/M4, F-series BMW)

- How to remove the clutch delay valve from your BMW or Toyota Supra.
You can also follow a different method by replacing the entire slave cylinder with one from an E90, but I like that this method is pretty much free except for some brake fluid.

Word I got the restrictor and spacer out in one shot and didnt know it. Spent a half hour digging around in the slave. If the screw bottoms out way lower than 2" then you've done it 😅

Going to do this on my F10 535i. Hate this engagement delay. It was a big surprise for me they put it in new BMW. There was no such thing in my 1992 525i :)

I just picked up a M2C recently and I'm noticing that the CDV is causing rough shifts. I really like the auto rev matching feature on it.
Will removing the CDV affect auto rev matching?

I've noticed that I can't seem to get a smooth take off from a dead stop in first in my M2 (especially after it's warmed up). I don't know if it's just me trying to get used to the take off assist but it's totally different feeling than my E92 M3 is. I'm hoping this will help and allow me to modulate it better. Actual shifting is fine, it's just that dang take off that's giving me anxiety lol.
How did it end up feeling?
@@shouldigetit it made quite a big difference! Take off from first definitely improved because you can feel the clutch engagement point much better. I'm also able to speed shift without missing gears 👍🏼I recommend it to everyone in an F series manual, totally worth it and very easy to remove!

Respectfully no, it prevents the clutch from engaging to fast ie slower. Not preventing it from slipping. It creates slippage. The rest of the explanation is correct.
It prevents anything that puts extra strain on the clutch. Harsh engagement, too much slippage, etc.
Does clutch delay valve makes mechanical sound when pressed for shifting gears 1st to 2nd gear and 2nd to 3rd at low rpm?
Did you put back on the rubber grommet that holds the cdv or not?

what is the bleeding process? same as bleeding brakes?(press pedal, then open bleed screw, close screw again, release pedal and repeat)

9 - driving around town (1-2 shift)
8 - fast shifting
1 - normal highway driving/shifting at speed
kern417 oh bet!! the video looks straight forward enough but how hard is the bleeding the clutch? do I just let all the liquid come out and then fill it up from the engine bay?
@@Ethnmoreno ive done it 2 ways. You can do reverse bleed with a cheap syringe from walgreens/cvs, or you can remove the slave cylinder and manually pump it to get the air out
@@kern417 so when I reverse bleed I don't have to bleed the brakes or anything? the brakes aren't affected?

I have a bmw f20 120d would a new slave cylinder for e90 fit straight into my car?

I'm going to buy a new slave and take the cdv out then put onto car, do you need to put the rubber grommet back inside the slave or can you disregard this along with the metal cdv. Would appreciate your advice, thanks.
@@scw7495 only the cap for the clutch line. Not the thick one that holds the cdv in place.
what size line did you use to bleed the slave?
I can't remember but it's the same as what you use for brake lines
Hi Kern, I have 316d f31 2017 with manual transmission. When I start in first gear from a standpoint cold or hot the car vibrates as I release the clutch and the lever is almost at the top. I tried to locate the vibrations and you feel it at most on the passenger seat on the floor. This happens sometimes not every time I use the car. I really don't know what is the issue. Could this be related to CDV?
It doesn't sound like it. You may have a bad transmission mount

I still have the problem. I checked everything, except clutch and dual mass. So I am sure that is the problem

I have a lot of chatter on the clutch when idleing after removing the CDV. Is that normal? I had spec's stage 3.5 clutch which chattered a bit before, but now its much more.
it's your flywheel. that's unavoidable, especially when the A/C is on in the summer

Yes, F8X have a CDV . Removed mine and the Overall driveability is much much better

What size wood screw was used?
I think it was 2 1/2" long

The main improvement is the 1-2 shift is much smoother. If you're experiencing gear lockouts when shifting fast then this will help as well.
@@kern417 I find that 1st to 2nd feels like clutch is having to catch up with my foot sometimes. I’m defo going to do this mod to my m140i. Thanks for the reply
@@richardsmith7940 That's exactly what these CDVs do - make the clutch plate move slower than your foot, and the faster your clutch foot, the more out of sync they are. I really gotta take mine out, but all the reports of difficult bleeding have kept me from doing it.

@@richardsmith7940 you would assume - I don’t understand why people would have problems. It doesn’t seem like it should be harder than any other clutch, though some have said it’s easy to accidentally drain the reservoir because it’s really low volume.

In theory if you don't know what you're doing then you could put a lot of extra shock on the drivetrain. But really it's not a huge risk unless you don't know how to drive a clutch properly.

Yes
I did this, got the rubber grommet out and then when I went in for the actual metal CDV the screw would bite but then when I try to yank it out it just keeps stripping, to the point we’re I used a bigger screw and it would do the same thing, I tried to screw it in a bit more and at that point we used a vice to clamp onto the screw and the screw would not pop out so at that point we thought we made that tiny hole a huge one lol and the screw is grabbing onto something else so we didn’t wanna break anything and left it at that and threw everything back together

Use a smaller screw so it can actually bite into the metal with the threads. Going bigger was the wrong direction
