  • I don't drink and I've never been drunk. I've been asked why I don't drink probably hundreds of times at this point, and I want to share why I don't think it should matter. I'm sharing my personal experience and my personal opinion. Please know that I don't judge you if you drink, just like I hope you don't judge me for not. 💜

I have never drank or been high, "buzzed", tipsy, or whatever else they call it. I was part of a very diverse group of friends in college and there were parties and club hopping every single weekend (when we didn't have a show---I was part of two professionals dance companies so performing and then partying afterwards was quite routine). I was the only one in the group who never drank. But I had a great bunch of friends and associates. I was blessed to be around crazy people who never pressured me. They'd ask once or twice, even hand me a glass that I'd either pour out or just put down somewhere but it was all in good fun. They knew I wasn't going to drink it and never made a fuss. If they caught someone else not in our group trying to encourage me to drink they'd come "rescue" me and order them to "leave her alone, she doesn't drink".
If I was dragged out to a club they had a "weed car" and a "clean car". I was always told I couldn't ride in a particular car bc they'd be smoking. I felt very respected by my friends and their groupies.

I'm 26 and I've never been drunk. Alcoholism runs in my family, so I've decided if I never start drinking, I can't become an alcoholic. I don't advertise that I don't drink and I don't have an issue with other people drinking. I've been pretty lucky that most people I've encountered have been cool with it, however, several of my classmates in college branded me as "lame" because I didn't drink and didn't party much.

I’m 35 and have never drank. I dealt with a lot of the same stuff and sadly I did get aggressive back a few times with people about it when they wouldn’t drop it. I didn’t like being the center of attention for an entire dinner out as coworkers attempted to invalidate my reasons and get me to drink. Most of my friends in college would ask and then let it go and we had a good time, but the professional world really didn’t like my decision to not drink lol

@@windermere2330 Yes you are correct! In fact in office work places and even amongst government bodies and medical health care drinking alcohol socially is preferred. My friend that didn't drink had to start drinking in order to move up in his work place. It's a disgusting practice. I always used to go to clubs and not drink lol.

Wow I really related to this as a non-drinker. My own family constantly pressures me and honestly it makes our relationships suffer. I often make excuses, because I don’t have a big earth shattering reason, so as you have experienced…they try to persuade me to change my mind. I think it’s more about their comfort level, and feeling validated for drinking. Anyway, great video

I'm also 31, but my experience has been completely different. I started drinking at 15 and never stopped. I think I reached the peak was when I was 19 to 20. So, I consider myself a "light" alcoholic or maybe I have "social alcoholism" being that I always drink on social ocations, but almost never alone. I have it controlled now, because of sports. More than alcohol, my biggest pation and way of coping with the world has been through sports and I think that saved me from "the dark pit". I say all that, because looking backwards, I can't help but think that my life, would've been different for the better if I didn't drank so much in my twenties.
I have to say I have the biggest respect to people like you and I wish I had a little bit of your strenght and that's why I clicked into your video. Thank you!

Walking the dog long distances and hiking does not give me a hang over. One beer gives me a head ache. I realize that most things that make me feel good like heavy exercise where endorphins are released attracts me. A chemical addiction to a substance would be something that I could fall prey to very easily. Practicing avoidance of situations where I could fall into an addiction means my survival. So now at 69 I avoid gatherings where any addictive substances might be used. There , so even at 69 peer pressure is still a problem. Recovering addicts are my favorite people to be around because they truly understand. They don’t need extended explanation for not participating in any type of intoxicant. Sugar ,starches ,and gluten will eventually kill me .

I gave up drinking when I found out I was expecting 9 years ago and didnt go back 💗 people used to stress me out with the questions and I've thought about drinking since ... but then I realised the only reason I was thinking about drinking was to make other people happy, it had nothing to do with me ... so I didn't. I'm vegan ish too and it feels the same ... I'm not that vegan, like u I want to fly under the radar but people are very observant and question. I dispatch food and drink questions now with a joke ... or offer up a flaw people love that ... that combo works for me ... oh and I just laugh off their comments ... they get bored then as they can't get a rise out of you. It doesn't bother me any more but why people care so much baffles me. Excluding my son i really couldnt care less what people eat and drink. Oops rant over 🙊🙈🌼🌸🌼

I drink regularly, but if I ever get drunk, I feel like I've really screwed up. I drink because I like the taste of beer, red wine, scotch, etc. I drink for the taste, and maybe a bit for the relaxation assistance. I absolutely hate the loss of control or character that comes with getting drunk though, and it kinda baffles me that some people drink for the express purpose of getting drunk. For that reason, I stay far away from anything designed to mask the taste of the alcohol, as it seems the only purpose of those sorts of drinks is to get you drunk.
I suppose it's partly what I grew up with. My mother never drank, and if my dad ever did, it would be a single beer with dinner. I've seen the culture changing though. My favorite bar has just as many non-alcoholic options as alcoholic options. Kombuchas, NA beers, soda, house-made ginger beer (free for pregnant women) and hop water. Rebel even makes non-alcoholic liquor now! The wide availability of non-alcoholic options seems to be normalizing drinkers hanging out with non-drinkers. Maybe availability is the key to normalizing things?
I grew up a vegetarian and never ate meat until I was 26. People CONSTANTLY gave me crap for not eating meat and it was very difficult growing up in the 80's and 90's when everyone would go to a restaurant that didn't serve vegetarian options. I ate some of the saddest salads you can imagine and was constantly served meat accidentally. It was exhausting. These days, the availability of good, tasty meatless options is almost ubiquitous, though I still see people being ostracized for being vegetarian or vegan, sadly.

I wish I was as strong as you when I was younger. I never liked drinking that much in college, but there was a party every night and everybody went drinking. After college every job I had people went out drinking after work. It was just so ingrained in my social circle. I’m 53 now & since I quit smoking at age 40 I hardly ever drink. Every once in a while, I’ll enjoy a glass of wine or an adult coffee drink. But that’s it. It feels great! I just wish I had all that money back that I wasted when I was smoking & partying a lot!

I don't understand WHY some people get offended due to choosing NOT to drink or any other lifestyle choice people make that are different from the norm! As long as your choices affect you, and not others, and are not harmful to others and yourself, live the way you want to live, do whatever it is you want to do. And, please, do not try to get others to try your lifestyle choices are trick them into doing something you know they don't want to do!

For me, there are days I decide to drink and many more days where I am in a social setting and don't. I don't value drinking so its not worth the cost for me. It messes with my sleep, it is counterproductive to my fitness goals, and I don't always enjoy it.
I've found people have gotten used to me not drinking, and I have gotten used to telling them I'm not drinking. And usually they don't care, they're just happy I'm hanging out with them. And me too. I don't care to go out with them and me being the only person not drinking.

It’s like i can really be me without shame🤷‍♂️ yesterday i had a really great party. It’s just much more fun if i feel a bit drunk. I know it’s not healthy and I don’t want this to be a habit because i know that it can become problematic…

Don’t worry you’re not the only one in the world that doesn’t drink. I know what its like I never drink never wven had a sip of wine beer or any big liquors. And my body reacts to alcohol wipes badly with a rash and hives. So when I go to the doctor to get blood work done I have to wash the area with soap and water or use iodine to disinfect the area before the needle goes in my skin. I’m one of the 20,000 people othe world that is allergic to any kind of alcohol even hand sanitizer. So I am in fear since 3 years old that alcohol would kill me like a allergic reaction for someone who can’t eat peanuts. So when my friends ask me why I’m not drinking I tell them its like a peanut allergy but for alcohol beverages and it will kill me within minutes the second I touch or drink it.

I've never drunk ( drank?) either. I didn't ever want to because I was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and we believe it's harmful to the spirit, basically the soul. I feel left out of drinking references and social settings where drinking prevails. I don't judge people for drinking, though, unless they're reckless.
