Mormons & Christians Respond: "How Can I Have Eternal Life?"

  • I asked random Latter-day Saints (Mormons) & Evangelical Christians on the street how we can have eternal life. Here's what they said.
Both Evangelicals and Mormons agree that a proper understanding "eternal life" is critically important! Jesus died so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life. One of the most notable differences between Mormonism and Christianity is our view of the Gospel and eternal life. Though many things between the two faith traditions sound similar, we actually disagree on critical components of doctrine.
John 6:36 - "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him."

I think of the "don't tell me", show me", phrase. We can hear a lot of lip service, but what are the physical manifestations of faith? Only the Father can see ALL the manifestations in each of us. Humans, we can only know, see, hear, though, there are signs that we miss.
Jesus died on the cross, so we would have a second chance, as we deserved much worse for our sin. Faith living by works, shows the Father much gratitude, because we have faith. He loved us first.
We are still in the process of learning what it really means.
We must look at the fundamentals.

Lip service sounds good, but is cheap. LDS members know that salvation is a daily grind, a process of becoming more like Jesus Christ in character and spirit. So asking them what is salvation is like asking them what will be for dinner fifty years from now. From this contradiction I believe that Evangelicals don't know God. They only know the words in the Bible. So they say you accept Jesus Christ and you are golden. Wham, bam and done. But the LDS know God and that salvation is far more intense, personal, and a daily effort and change, becoming nearer to Jesus Christ. So the LDS hope is to become God. While the Evangelical hope is to be plucked up as is by God and set upon a shelf like curios. So God says, these here gave me their words of belief. And these others have given me their whole hearts, minds, souls, and lives. The bible and the words in it is the God of Evangelism. So they parrot it. God himself is the God of the LDS, and not so easily defined.

As is so frequently done, the critics here are attempting to compare apples and oranges. They are contrasting "resurrection" on the LDS side with "salvation" on the other side. They are contrasting "cross only" with "garden and cross." They are rejecting the possibility of the Israelites having any knowledge whatever of the works of the future Messiah, and therefore being saved by their faith in the future Messiah. And do they really want to contrast "obedience" to the Gospel with the "grace of God?" Does God require nothing at all of us after that grace has entered our life? The Lord had something to say about those who cry Lord, Lord, but do not what He says. The restoration of the Gospel through the Prophet Joseph Smith actually makes the two positions most compatible, at least from the perspective of the members of the Church of Jesus Christ. It is really only the critics who have a problem reconciling the two positions. The LDS position is a broader concept, based on further light and knowledge, i.e., revelation from God.
The Latter-day Saints teach a principle of exaltation, beyond the ordinary salvation mentioned by evangelical critics, which makes both systems compatible on the first point. Salvation is a free gift of grace provided for by the atoning death and resurrection of the Savior; however, the specific type of resurrection is based on one's own life activity: we will be judged according to our works; (John 5:29) Jesus Christ is the "author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him." (Hebrews 5:9) The "Great Commission" of Jesus to the Apostles at the end of Matthew says that they are "to teach them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:20) The word 'primarily' in the second point of differences opens up the door for reconciling the two positions on the issue of Gethsemane vs. Calvary. As has been seen, there is no such issue for the Latter-day Saints: the atonement begins in the Garden (or before creation, 'before the foundations of the world were laid'), and ends on the Cross (or perhaps is still continuing, with Christ continuing to intercede for us with the Father).

Evangelicals aren't wrong.. faith in Jesus Christ plus repentance..
But we speak of the Kingdom of God and of his fulness..
What we believe is faith plus repentance... and that baptism is the gate by which we enter onto the covenant path with Christ.. this is called the covenant path because we make covenants on this path with God.. this is the only way to enter the Kingdom of God..
Save a man be born of water and of the spirit (baptism and receiving the Holy Ghost), he can not enter the Kingdom of God.

Mormons use much of the same Christian language, but it means very different things.
    Questions to ask any Mormon:
Who is God the Father in your faith?
Do you believe the doctrine of Joe Smith Jr who said that God was once a man who once lived on an earth like ours, who had to prove his worthiness to earn "Exaltation" who then became our God?
    Tell me about your Jesus?
Do you believe what Mormonism teaches you that Jesus is Lucifer's brother?
Do you believe that Jesus is a direct offspring of God the Father and a heavenly mother?
These are key doctrinal differences between Mormonism and Christianity. In order to have a proper dialog with Mormons, we oftentimes have to get them to talk about and confirm their deeper Mormon theologies they were taught, before we can help them learn about the true doctrine of the Jesus of the Bible.
Many Mormons will say they believe in the same Jesus of the Bible, citing he went to the cross and was raised from the dead, but they do not worship the same Jesus as Christians do because they deny Christ's deity, meaning, they deny that he is God in the flesh, they deny the trinity of the Godhead.
Mormonism believes that God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, are 3 different and distinct "Gods" and not all 3 as ONE God.
Mormonism believes in Polytheism, meaning, the plurality of Gods, such as they believe that God the Father being once a man as we are today, who gained exaltation and eventually became our God, they believe this process has been going on for all eternity and that every faithful male in the LDS church who does all the temple ordinances required of them and works based salvation, they will have the same opportunity to become like God and become a God, a ruler over their own world one day and populate it with their own spirit children / offspring, as they will have many wives in heaven.

I can answer the question to whether God the father is some dude playing a dude disguised as another dude in a later comment maybe
But the rumor of Jesus and Lucifer being brothers is easy to tackle
Jesus is the God of Gods and is a part of the Gold Intelligence in Mormonism
He doesn’t sin and cannot sin
He is the ruler of the Gods, but is closer to a king than a dictator, and closer to a servant than a king
The pink intelligences are angels 😇 👼 😇 and angelic beings in the pre-existence who want to sign up for bodies and go to earth. These angels were “created” or “re-arranged” from the sandbox of Mormonism. When Mom and Dad of Mormonism have sex, the “offspring” of the gods are those babies. Lucifer, according to the pearl of great price, was the second born of the parents of this cosmic regional jurisdiction, and was a pink intelligence. The first born was “Jesus”, or “Baby Jesus”, who was a Gold intelligence, fully God in the pre existence
In the same way Baby Jesus on earth came to be without being created, Baby Jesus in the preexistance was also fully God already (out of heavenly mothers womb)
Jesus is uncreated and was always God, while Lucifer was kinda created as a pink intelligence (most Mormons prefer rearranged)
      So no, they aren’t brothers
They are brothers in the same way Jesus had brothers on earth
I often make fun of anti-Mormons by quoting them and saying in a funny voice
“JeSuS aNd LuCiFeR aReN’t BrOtHeRs… More mins… more like More ONS!!!!!”

@@EricLovesCHRIST The issue here is because Mormonism believes that Jesus is a created being, that being, made of a physical heavenly beings, a heavenly father and a heavenly mother, you deny the deity of Jesus.
No one is "born as a God" especially using the analogy you give. You cannot say that Jesus was the first born and Lucifer was born after him and then try and declare Jesus is God but Lucifer is not, when they are both (according to Mormonism deeper theology) are born of the same heavenly father and a heavenly mother.
You see, Mormonism uses this very example and others, to justify their belief that we, as "spirit children of God the father and a heavenly mother" can become like our heavenly father, and if we obtain exaltation, can become a literal "god" of our own world one day.
This is what Joe Smith Jr taught, and this is what I was taught in the early 1980's and there are actual lesson and written documents on this very topic from those time periods that cannot be refuted as to the teachings and what is being implied.
Go to the LDS official website and search for Exaltation, and you will find clearly listed, one of the perks of Exaltation is "you will become a god"
This is counter to Biblical teachings and again, why Mormonism is a very poisonous gospel that will sadly send many to Hell.
I found the truth, by reading and studying the only true Scriptures we have that are actually inspired by God, it is called the Bible, and it was never corrupted, no precious truths ever lost, and no restoration of anything was ever needed, otherwise God would be a liar with his promises he made us.

@@brotherinchrist72 sorry if it wasn’t clear, but it’s actually god the father and the mother who are “created beings”, but they were created using materials that cannot be created or destroyed
Jesus, again, was not created at all. He came out of the birth canal the same way Jesus spawned from mother Mary on earth. He was pre-eminent
Jesus was pre-exalted, while the other Gods earned their glory
Like I said the pink intelligences like Lucifer were Demi-gods/angels
