Blame it on the rookie who shouldn't be driving a truck

During my 2 years truckn for a few companies I can say as a "vehicle sensitive" person I "learn" the vehicle's limitations well of whatever I'm driving. There were a couple of times when I "felt" the brakes getting too hot or loss of friction and I "Knew" I had to act fast to prevent the brakes from being lost/burning up. I use my excellent far sided vision to "plan" as my speed increased because I had no choice but to let off the brakes and going more than 80+ miles an hour I saw the end of the hill and what traffic was doing/paying attention I tapped the brakes hard/gental to slow the increase in speed but then I had to let them go again/repeat. The load was too heavy and the brakes were just too hot but it's like you push on the brakes and they work for about 1 second then you start loosing stopping power fast because brakes are still too hot and not in very good shape. I'm on max engine brake but it's still not preventing the truck from accelerating as I'm "super focused" on maintaining a "controlled outcome" as I worry about a speeding ticket. Got flashers on and in the fast lane while planning on the "ideal outcome". By the time I make it to the bottom of the hill I could slowly make it from 80+ miles an hour down to a safer speed without loosing the brakes all together.
Bottom line is with just 2 years experience sometimes a steep hill can grab one by the balls and at that point you have to "negotiate" with the brakes to not overwork them but instead "realize" the brakes current limitations based on the current situation. If I had chosen to just keep on the brakes no matter what/burned them out then I could have lost all stopping power in exchange for just one moment of slowing down. Instead I had to do whatever it took to "keep the brakes" while avoiding an accident even though I think I even hit 90 mph at one point but I was still in control in way of "predicting/controlling" the outcome based on the flow of traffic while being ready for other "planned emergency maneuvers" in order to achieve the ideal incident free outcome.
Not many times a hill has caught me by the balls and most of the time I never have to worry about much as I usually slow way the f*ck down for stupid steep hills but sometimes/very rare a hill can be allot more steep than expected and allot depends on the outside temp, how heavy the load is, hill decent starting speed, etc it's just allot has to be taken into consideration before the start of any steep hill but having the ability to "adapt" to any given situation is the most important skill besides predicting the behavior of traffic around you 24/7. I still have a good driving history because I always pay attention and do whatever it takes to achieve better outcomes no matter what. Besides you can only easily end yourself or anyone else if a bad mistake is made so no big deal right 😑... just stay calm and react appropriately no matter what's happening 😅

30+ runaway incidents a year, but there is a "high probability" that there will be one during an ongoing recovery??

100% driver error and or maintenance issues!
Truck DRIVERS are in a hurry..... the rule of thumb is ONE-TWO GEARS lower going down the hill, that the gear you used going up. There are NO ACCIDENTS, only driver error! I cannot tell you how many SEMI TRUCK have tailgated me going DOWN the hill in the Rocky Mountains!

It's driver failure, not brake failure! They didn't slow down at the top, put it in lower gear with jake brake on, and you stab brake on the way down!

Those drivers piss'd they truck is gone. Probably fired. Even at 35 mph, I've been tailgated by fellow truckers and commuters.

Don’t blame the brakes blame the driver for poor maintenance.

Inexperienced drivers is what it is poor maintenance I drove 750,000 miles no speeding tickets and no accidents and I went all over the United States after 30 years of another job and heavy construction so don’t tell me that it wasn’t inexperience or bad maintenance

      Wow
I could still be driving but the road rage I get off I am retired and just watch these idiots on the Internet it’s only going to get 1 million times worse because of the Illegals

Go down a mountain in the same gear you went up it. Or a lower gear. Slow steady brake application prevents oxygen from getting to the heated brakes.

Except the westbound approach to the Eisenhower tunnel is not nearly as steep as the westbound decent. Your commit says you know nothing about this stretch or highway.
With that said, I'd bet money that the drivers were wearing flip flops, track suits, and the inside of the cab smelled like curry.

@@codymoe4986 How about the fact there are privately owned and operated roads in the state? The Boulder turnpike was a tool road when built. The taxpayers paid for it. Then CDOT lost control and sold it, so it is a toll road AGAIN. You and your defense of the government seem SUSPECT to me.
