I think what adds to the immersion of Dead Space is how other interfaces function using arrow keys and not wasd (the RIG, elevators, repair benches, etc), like a separate device. So so cool. Great video!
The HUD is really not talked about enough, about how well optimised and ergonomic it is, I think that's what made the game for me so immersive, which is fascinating. I was pretty much always focused on what's happening in front of me, not having to look elsewhere, so I always absorbed by the atmosphere and the amazing ambience of the game. And I'm pretty sure that's what Silent Hill 2 did as well, which is another extremely immersive horror game, with a really good atmosphere and ambience, so I always drawn in, which honestly made the game even scarier.
Whats ironic about it is that even though the genius minimal HUD was really well executed and helps with immersion, they made the game 3rd person which doesnt help the immersion, but at the same time the model for the HUD wouldn’t work from a first person perspective
Dude I love that you learned a new word, but half the things aren't as you make them out to be. Isaac's HP bar is ON HIS BACK, where he can't see it. But do you know who can? The player. The [E] popups are also just for the player, the "pick up" prompts, the save station, the gravity navigation, the objective popups, honestly, MOST OF THE FUCKING UI is just for the player. Unless isaac also needs to press A to save and he actually sees this, which will be so funny.

Silent hill is also on my list of games to check out! When atmosphere is done correctly, it makes the horror that much better 🫡
