How to use a steaming basket for cooking vegetables, or even for softening up pears or apples to make baby food.

As a grown adult I felt stupid having to look this up but I'm grateful for your video.
That makes two of us! :-)
Yup me too lol
Same here
Include me in this group. I just purchased a Farberware set and it came with this device. I thought it was some kind of fan to fan away heat and steam of some kind new cooking method. .LOL Thanks for the video.
You are far from alone...
I'm over 30 and had to look this up so don't worry everyone you're not as bad off as me LOL
I am 51 and I had to look it up. I have had this in my cabinet for years and I never knew what it was used for untill now.
Yeah 38 and I just looked it up
Same..im 32 lol
34 🥴😂 mama didn’t teach me this. ♥️
@@sherrybedwell1137 me too! 😂😂😂 I asked my children where it was and they had to show me 🤦🏾♀️
9 years later, your video is still helping clueless people 👍😅❤️ thanks a million
This video is still so good. I’m 27 years old and just now learning. How to use a steamer basket lol. I’m trying to eat healthier and I tend to go crazy with salt and butter when I sauté veggies so I’m trying it this way along with some shrimp and fish. Thanks so much for making this video short and thorough!
As a bachelor who does nothing more than fry up a good breakfast...this was very helpful. I will finally add some veggies to my diet haha. Thank you.
Honestly thank you so much! 23 years old but needed this validation that i was doing it right
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who had to look up instructions for these. Thank you for posting this.
I decided to steam some crab for the first time and saw one on a blog, there was no clear indication on how to use this contraption so this helped so much!
Bought one again two days ago. It was $4. Boiling vegetables leeches the vitamins and minerals, and so I wanted to find a better way. In the past two days since buying it, I am re-appreciating how the flavor is enhanced, how my food isn't soggy, and how easy it is to reheat leftovers. You can put several things in the same basket. For lunch I had rice, a chicken thigh and a sliced carrot put in raw, but it cooked beautifully while the other food heated. The pans are not as dirty, so easier to clean. The basket is very easy to clean too. I am looking for more creative ways to use it now.
I’ve had one of these for years that someone gave me and never knew what it was. This was super helpful, thank you! Also got a chuckle when you ended it with “the end.”😊
I'm 63 and needed your help. Thank you
Omg I have one of these thought it was strainer 💀 but I was looking up videos for steaming veggies for my baby and I’m so glad I found this now I know 😭😂
I use this item at least 1-2x a week ruclips.net/user/postUgkxQJTPaJo-WI_mBKJOtoUVgCf0fPy2Wh90 Everything except the base is dishwasher safe, which makes for easy clean-up. If it finishes cooking the rice before you're ready to serve it, I recommend tossing in a small amount of water (especially if you're cooking the least amount possible) to prevent the rice at the bottom from drying out. The vegetable steamer feels a bit like a hit or miss with cooking times, and sometimes the color from the vegetables leaks down onto the rice. So, I prefer to steam my vegetables separately. Overall, great item for the cost. I've been using mine for over 8 months and am VERY happy with it!
Thanks for the video i just bought a steamer cause i was just told its healthier to steam my veggies. wasn't sure how to use it though. it was adorable how you said the end at the end.. :)
I was today years old when I figured this out. you’re out here saving lives nine years later😂😂😂 Me and my dumplings thank you! LOL
I needed this video. I am glad you posted it. I was most definitely wondering how to use it without over doing it. Thank You!!!!
Newly married woman with a husband that loved steam broccoli, you're a life saver because I've never used one of these. Always just shoved it in the back of the cabinet. 😂
So I've had this flower steamer "thing" in my collection of lids and really didn't know what is was for about 4 years. One day I cleaned out my lid drawer and found it and have been using it to make tea.
I put my tea bags in it then fold it up in a small pot. Honestly that's what I thought it was made to do, hold the tea bags at the bottom of the pan so it could allow the water to pass through them. Now I know the real reason for it
Thanks for your video
Oh, interesting
thank you, Janna ! I saw these at the store and was wondering how to use it. So much cheaper than buying a steamer pot in pot like I used to have years ago :)
I just bought one. This video convinced me how easy it would be to start eating veggie dinners every night. thank you
Thanks very much! You have such a calm presence!
Thank you so much for this video! I've had the steamer basket for years. I won't tell you how long 😉. I had no idea how to use it. This video made it so simple! Thank you!
Thanks for the vid I bought a steamer basket and realized I have no idea how to use this thing!
wow ive been using this as a strainer lol
Me too! Got it at a garage sale ad pleased to see it has another use. :)
Kenesha Davis I
Kenesha Davis 😱😂😂😂🤣🤣
Me too!!😂😂😂
God your dumb
Yay! I just bought one of these because I'm cooking Thanksgiving dinner and needed an extra steamer! Thank you !
So grateful for this video. I thought that the strainer doesnt have to go inside the pot, rather than stay open to full capacity over the edges of the pot. It kwpt falling in and i was thinkin what a piece of junk but then found this video and lol turns out it has to be this way. Haha. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much. I just bought my first one. And I didn’t know that it was supposed to sit down in the pot. So that’s where I got confused. So thank you, for taking the time, to do this video for us☺️.
You have the most lovely, soothing voice ever
I'm going to buy a steaming basket soon, and your video has walked me through the process very reassuringly. Thank you ! :)
I just bought one from TJMaxx (FreshWare Steam Basket from Evriholder Products). I spent about 30 min trying to figure out how to even open it up. Thank you for this video!! Now I'm ready to steam!!
L O L you’re killing me with “the end” I never know how to finish my videos either but this was really great and informative thank you
Thank you so much, Janna. I just received one as a gift and had no idea how to open up the fan. LOL, You are a lifesaver and I subscribed. :)
This video was more useful then my mom trying to explain how to cook to me. Thank you, I’m now prepared for adulthood.
I’ve had one of these for three years and have used it in a few weird ways that never really worked out. My brain finally had the idea to watch this. Yay!
I felt ridiculous looking up this video but I had no knowledge of how to open the darn thing. Thank you for sharing this 🙏
Lmaooo my mother in law gave me this thing 2 years ago and I haven't used it because I didn't know how to open it so here I am lmaooo
@@Sugarplumz21 lmbooo... it’s crazy! That’s why I love RUclips! You can find just about anything here.
Thank you! I received one of these in an estate auction and was totally clueless as to what it was! I figured it was a fancy tray for deviled eggs or something. Hahahaha!
The way I’ve been struggling over a year and the answer was right here. Thank you!
Oh wow. I never knew what those were or how to use them. Thanks for posting this. Gonna buy one.
You have such a nice speaking voice. You made me smile within ;) Thanks for the info !
I needed this video too 😅 just brought one to steam food for my baby. I even had to watch a video to learn how to open up the steamer basket haha
Lord I was doing this so wrong. Lol
I thought you covered the veggies with water and then pull the basket at the end to drain water lol ok....im done.🤦🏽♀️ Thanks for this!!!
😂😂😂
I'm so glad you included the baby food part. because that's exactly what I needed it for. haha again. great thanks for the video.
Thank youuuu 😁 I needed this audiovisual info. badly 👏🏻 👏🏻
We found my Mom's from long ago but it was missing the center post which we FINALLY found and so am looking forward to using it. Thanks for the video!
Thankyou I'm getting back into basic cooking again after being lazy , feeling healthier with better food
You have an excellent teaching voice! Thanks for the quick video!
I know right. very calm.
Jut today my brother called and asked me how to use it. He couldn't open it at first and he is super intelligent. I suggested that he look it up on RUclips. He did and now he feels silly. I said no worries big brother, you got this.
Interestingly enough, I use these with my standard 12" fry pan and even though it doesn't seal, it still steams fantastically.
Oh so that's how you use those things!!!! Haha exactly what I needed to know thanks! You are so cute btw ♡
I'm so glad this video exists!! thank you!!!
Thank you for this video! I bought a basket a few days ago and couldn’t work out how it was supposed to open. 😅 No usage instructions included at all!
Simple, efficient, and just what I needed to know, thank you, God bless.
Seriously! I wish I saw this b4 using mine. I scalded the bottom of my pot! Thank you for sharing. ❤️
0:48 "of your, of your... thing.." aww that's so sweet. Very endearing.
I found one with a set of pots and pans at the dumpster of my apt. Nice set! My friend sent me this youtube cause I didnt know what this thing was and Im 56.
"The end" hahaha this was very helpful, thank you! 😊😊
I love the awkward "the end" hahahaha
One of these was in the new house when I moved. Thanks for explaining it.
Just bought one of these yesterday because I had to. The frozen steam bags that you microwave are convenient, but I felt like no matter what they still give off that nasty plastic smell from the bag. Had to go more natural.
You make me feel human, thank you
Thanks didn’t know 🤦🏻♀️ how to use it
Thank you. I've never used a vegetable steamer so this is really interesting. ❤️♥️❤️♥️
One of my goals for the new year is to continue to cook and eat a little healthier. When I order from the carryout, I sometimes order their steamed chicken and veggies. My question is, have you ever used the steamer to fix anything else besides veggies?
Very helpful!! Thanks!! Never used one of these before. ;)
31 n my pot set came with this n I didnt wanna mess up... thank u!
Look up gang in the house!!! 😂 and im the latest member yall!!!
Welp, glad to know what this is for now, I always wondered how you steamed and not boiled veggies. Thank you for the video
Thanks for the explanation. I didn’t know how to use it or how much water 🙏
I've been cooking for 30 plus years and my steamer pot died. I have never used one of these baskets, but just got one. Thanks for the tutorial. Mine came with removable silicone tips on the bottom legs. I am thinking I should remove these, but there were no directions with mine. The telescoping handle has a silicone tip as well, but not removable, so I am assuming this is ok to steam with in place?
Very nice video, honestly had no idea how to use it 😅😂
Do have to say that salt doesnt make it boil faster, it will actually boil slower! Salt makes it harder for water to leave as vapor so it raises the boiling point of the water, thus making it boil slower.
It will taste way better tho! 🤤
I just got one today, your video was so helpful, thank yoouuou.
Thanks for making this video. I got this set for my mother and we didnt know how to use the steamer.
I have no idea how to cook anything. Thank you for this video, some of my teeth are bad so I can't eat raw veggies as they are too hard. This helped, I think I'm going to go buy a steamer basket tomorrow, thank you
I just bought that same steamer. Thanks!
Thanks! Just bought one and didn’t know how to use it. 😁
Thank you I got one with my post and plans but never really knew how to use it
At first I felt like a loser for having to look this up, but the 694,978 views on this video made me feel better 😃
I got one of these from someone and I'm reluctant to use it because I hate to cause scratches in my stainless steel pots. I might get one with scratch proof feet.
Thanks Janna Frei!
Thanks for this video..I was clueless on how to use a steamer....
Thanks girl because I was so lost lol 😂 👍🏾
Thanks! I wondered how those things worked.
This is a surprisingly good video
Amazing! so helpful, thank you!
This was really helpful. Thanks
Okay thanks I have a pot that came with this type of Strainer and never knew how to use it
I'm 52 years old, and didn't know WTH this thing is! 😂 Thanx for the tutorial!
:) thanks! I loved the "the end"
I hade one of those never new what to do with it .Now I do thank you lady .
Thank you!
Thx Janna !!!
How long and how does it compare to putting veggies straight in the water?
Thank you, that was very useful.
I’m 31 had to look this up (never thought I would have to 😆) but my baby needs them steam veggies
Thanks Janna, Very cool!
Pet peeve: salt actually makes your water boil slower, and does nothing to add flavor (unless you add a lot). It is used to raise the boiling point of water, thus makin it boil SLOWER, and creates a more consistent cook throughout the food.
I use this steam broccoli for my baked potato. I just used it to steam rice and broccoli for my lunch.
The rice was pre cooked, I was simply re heating it. I would suggest cooking the rice first by whatever method you prefer.
Whats with the little kick stand mine came with? I guess the real question is: what's the benefit the kick stand offers by having the veggies way up high instead of right above the water?
Thank you.
Thank you! Great video!
