    I've been doing this for 7 days and I have to say that getting dressed to shoes changed my life! I have been dealing with depression since I'm 14, and I never been happier. Getting dressed to shoes and using jewelry and perfume in the house really ment not being in bed all day unmotivated, and really getting ready for myself, being happy for myself, and enjoying being alive. Thank you Diane for being part of this journey with me.
    With love, from Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil, a very happy flybaby and veterinary student 🥰

    Sketchers slip on sneaker shoes with no laces are great for house shoes! They are lightweight, but have a rubber sole. Today was my first day "dressing to shoes". It made a big difference!

    Morning Diane (from a cloudy Grimsby UK) . I am baby step 6 but like to watch a dayvirctwo ahead so I can be prepared - go me! I have been shining my sink etc and having my time to breathe (sat in the garden at 9:30 last night with a cup of tea and loved the simple pleasure it brought) and I love the getting your outfit out the day before - it seems such a simple thing to do but it means I get up, showered and dressed in no time - means I can read my book for half an hour before work.
    Thanks Diane, I love this series xx

    THANK YOU Diane for these. Your original 31 Day Babysteps videos are the best, I’m still coming back to them after first watching 4 years ago. Of all the Flylady steps, this is the one I struggle with the most. Getting dressed in the morning for SAHM life has become really difficult.. I’m trying really hard to find things I can be excited about wearing as well as being practical.

    Another Ah Ha moment. Although I've been using the Flylady program many years, you just explained what I've seen Flylady refer to as Parkinson's Law- "work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion." That's why we kick into high gear when company is about to arrive. But let's use the timer instead to set the "time available for its completion" and have less stress and more time to appreciate the little things, like the scarf, earrings example you give. More taking care of self, which helps you truly "bless" your home and family. Less stress (cortisol release) leads to better health and more "peace" and calm in your self, your home and your family. Flylady says You set the tone in your home. Thanks for the Ah Ha moment😊

      An aha moment for me was when I read the Flylady advising us to run our home like a five star hotel. I try to leave public bathrooms etc like I find them out of respect for the poor cleaning lady, and realised I wasn't affording myself the same courtesy.

    Diane: You're a gem (as, of course, are Spark and Tweek). I wore earrings yesterday for the first time in I don't know how many years. I've been looking so spiffy these past few days I can hardly believe it's me. In the house, I've been cleaning up piles of junk that have been dragging me down for at least months if not years. You're my new best friend! Can't thank you enough for making these videos. I've also been doing your Moving in May program, but confess to feeling totally blah today and have done very little in the way of movement despite wanting desperately to lose 20lbs. Thanks for all you do.

    Thank you for these videos. This is my 3rd attempt at FLYing. 2011, 2014, now 2017. I discovered FlyLady's sister's book, Hidden Treasures, and after reading it, I was inspired to give this a third try. Only this time, I am taking my time. Baby Steps. I started reading "Sink Reflections" again and am on track with your videos. One thing I have done for years, even before I ever heard about FlyLady, lay out my clothes for the next day. When I was a teenager in high school, I ironed my outfit every night for school the next day. This continued through my working years, about 16 years. I got lazy about this after I quit working to be a SAHM. I found myself living in my PJs quite often. I still laid out my husband's clothes for work every night. If we had plans to go somewhere the next day, I laid out clothes for myself, husband and kids...but on days when we had no plans to leave the house, there were no clothes planned out. I can honestly say, this has made a huge difference for me. Now, granted, I don't dress up with beautiful clothes like Lady Dianne. It's simple, sometimes a decent sweatsuit or jeans and a tshirt, but putting on those tennis shoes gives me energy. A bounce in my step instead of sliding my slippers along the hardwood floor making that sound that just reminds me of being lazy and slow moving like a sloth.

    • @DianeinDenmark
      @DianeinDenmark  7 лет назад +6

      Oh, I hear you on the laying out of clothes, Melissa! I find I get so much more done these days (I work from home) and I have to treat my life like a job! LOL On the other hand, when I finished 'working', and change into my slippers, I know that I really can relax, with no guilt. That is a great feeling.

  • @Songbirdstress
    @Songbirdstress 4 года назад +4

    Diane, I have finagled this for one of my young students (age 9). I was giving him lessons at his house. I was turning up and he wasn't washed, or dressed, and I couldn't get him to wear his slippers (so cold feet). He wasn't working and his behaviour was deteriorating. He's now having his lessons in my classroom at my home and it's night and day. He had on a new pair of lace up sneakers and was feeling very smart. We also take a break in my garden (time to breathe) and we're doing movement prepositions so were racing "from" here "to" the "mini house", "around" the trees etc. When I take him home we find his Grandma who runs his home with a beautifully set table and her feet up on the couch with a magazine. Win win.

    I am putting out my clothes for tomorrow for nearly 30 days - DH and my boss,
    she has probably also remarked the change as now
    she starts also to dress up nicer.
    One point which I don't like is that I even
    I get attention of flirt-type-of-men.
    Well, I have to handle this.
    But at work I have a better relationship with two women.
    The prop. realized that I now love myself
    and they like me now.
    I realized this today.
    My inward feelings do not yet match
    with my outward appearance
    but this will follow
    I hope
    Thanks, Diane.

    I personally don’t wear shoes in my house. So for me I interpret this as getting fully dressed to leave my house, whatever that looks like to me. Many days I’ve dressed in things that I wouldn’t leave the house in or stay without any makeup. For me this baby step means being intentional in dress, getting up and putting on something I would want others to see me in, put on makeup that is at least casual. Be ready for company or an impromptu trip out of this house. Be intentional. I know in my mind what shoes I’ll grab at the door but I’m ok keeping up with our culture that shoes aren’t worn inside the house.

    I just have to say the getting dressed part is so true. I've been really lazy about it. After watching some of Stephanie's videos last week, I've been giving it a try. But this morning, I didn't have anything on the schedule. It was cold and rainy and I thought - I'll just where my comfy pajama bottoms and make sure I have a bra on today. Then I locked myself out of the house when I went to pick my kid up from school. Just proved it to myself today! GET DRESSED. Hahah.

    Hi FlyLady Diane,
    We had so much fun with this step! Plus, a bit of decluttering.
    We listened to it while having an afternoon snack.
    I have a hard time believing my hubby wears all his clothes. He has a packed closet plus 2 clothes racks.
    So I said, why don’t we pick out each other’s clothes for tomorrow! We went through his summer shirts. He has a system for wearing all of them. We found a T-shirt and 2 pairs of pants that went to trash. I pointed out that now he has more room in the closet.
    When looking at my clothes, he discovered I have “less options” than he does. I told him that I’ve been decluttering over the years.
    He picked out a wrap skirt my mom made years ago. That should be fun when I do my physical therapy exercises, lol.

    It beats getting dressed in the dark! I had to do this just recently when my mother was in hospital and I was called to her bedside. it was hours before I noticed I had an item inside out. I've also gone out with identical shoes 1 from the black pair and 1 from the navy pair. If I'd been laying out my clothes the night before I KNOW neither of these would have happened. My mother laid out her clothes every night all her life and people always commented on how put-together she always looked 😉

My problem is I work in an environment where we wear a medical uniform so it is the same thing day in and day out. I do keep my uniforms in a specific spot in the closet so I can just grab and go When it comes to Saturday I like to wear something comfy which I would have to say quite often doesn't include shoes. Fairly new subbie over here in America. I finally had to comment.I just LOVE your channel and have been doing your daily babysteps for this past week ! LOVE your style and look forward to seeing your outfit each day :) BUT that house is stunning ! I love that clean, white, fresh style and would love to see a tour. However, your suggestion for your hot spot clutter is the best. I think I shall run and find myself a photo of Robert Downey Jr and put it where I can enjoy him daily :) Best. Suggestion. Ever !

    I've been doing this step for a while now, especially if I have a big day (tomorrow) or have to wake-up super early (not a morning person). I even go as far as putting a daily (it's like a sanitary napkin but much smaller) on my panties - I do that too when we travel. For the moment, I switched from my Walking on a Cloud sandals to my Crocs because I have plantar fasciitis and don't have a 3rd choice yet. BUT I decided to put socks to up them up (feels more dressed). The "shine your sink" is where my DH noticed the most. Thank you again! Nicole

I go out of town for a weekend every three weeks to take care of my parents. what do I do with these days. I tend to drop off these tasks when I am away from home. do you have any advise to keep on track? I want to get to day 31. I love your accent. thanks for your videos.

      Hi Smee, no need to go back to day 1 but it might be a good idea to put your written routines (dress to shoes, dry out the sink etc) in a tiny notebook so you can also tick them off when you are away from home. We can take our routines anywhere with us! LOL I do my routines when I am on vacation, visiting family, etc.

    Hi Diane, thanks for the inspiring video's you make. I am following Flylady for about 2 years now, never got really into it though. Now with your vid's my sink is shiny and I'm at least wearing trainers in the house instead of slippers. I'm still having trouble to the "getting fully dressed" topic when doing cleaning chores: I'm afraid to ruin my good clothes. Also laying out clothes for the next day is a challenge, as I am very bad at getting things out that actually fit together. I usually have to try 2 or 3 tops before I'm confident enough to go out. Any tips?

    • @DianeinDenmark
      @DianeinDenmark  4 года назад

      Hi Tiryana! Yes, lots of ideas but here are two to get you going. First, wear cleaning clothes or an apron if you are worried about making a mess...but make sure to change into your "normal" clothes when done. We are only cleaning for short times but consistently. No more marathon cleaning sessions which tire us out! And put together three or four outfits in advance, then you have a few to choose between in the morning. Hope that helps! 🖐

    Putting on lazed up shoes dosn't do anything for me. But I totally get the essence of this tip though: it is all about getting ourself into a state where we feel ready to tackle the world. It has put words on a realization that has slowly dawned on my over several years: I don't work as well when I'm still in pyjamases, cause then I'll just be walking around in a Sunday morning slump the entire day. The thing that works for me is getting dressed in real clothing that I would be fine with running errands in (so no at-home loungewear clothing - and it has to include bra and socks as well), putting on my glasses and doing my hair (super important to shake off the slump) - and perhaps a bit of makeup and perfume if I feel like it, but that is not a must. Jewelry isn't eather. And shoes isn't as well. For all the other parts I can feel a major emptional change of state, but the shoes just dosn't do do anything for me in perticular. Socks for the winter and socks or floflops for the summer though :)

    • @thatswhatisaid8908
      @thatswhatisaid8908 5 лет назад

      Yes, if my bra is on and my hair is done, the rest of me will be ready for anything too, I don't wear shoes in the house, but I am trying to break the habit of slobbing about. This morning I had to duck down the street, but I was dressed and hair done, all I had to do was slip on my shoes, amazing! ☺️

      Obviously the flylady way has not sunk in your brain yet. One of the biggest things flylady preaches to all of her flybabies is, DON'T LET PERFECTIONISM RUN YOUR LIFE. Here you are letting your perfectionism focus on how perfect her video quality is instead of just simply thanking her for taking time out of her day, every day, for FREE, to encourage her fellow flybabies. For me personally, I wouldn't car if she had a massive booger hanging off the tip of her nose because I'm not focusing on her appearance and focusing on taking in her advice and help.

      I love it!!! It's kind of a video prose. You should have seen the actual flyladytv videos if you wanted to critique something 😆 And to be honest, something more professional would be less motivating for me. I feel like she's a normal person and not trying to be a celebrity. She's like my kind, funny, clever Aunt 😉
