Just started watching you. I’m new to the Fly Lady system. I checked her website for the answer but......how to do build a control journal? What goes in it?
Hi Diane! Instead of using a timer, I quite often find a video of yours that’s around 15 minutes to play in the background as I’m working. Your voice keeps me motivated to get busy, and I know when time is up. 😉
You bring such Hope to my life. Life is difficult right now. I know it will pass, but My mother passed away last month and immediately I got very sick. I’m having a struggle living my Christian beliefs while dealing with a greedy, unscrupulous sister. You are a great help amidst my struggles to not descend into depression and chaos. ❤️
I am so sorry for your loss. My dear little mother has been gone now for 3 years, but i still miss her every day. She enjoyed cleaning, and i would love to have talked to her about this system. You will find sticking to your routines will give structure to your day and be a comfort to you. I am sorry about your sister, but if worse comes to worst, remember that it's only stuff, and it won't get you into heaven. Stay safe 🤗
I am so sorry for your loss Julie. I understand what you are going through as I lost my brother at the end of June. It is such a shame that you are having these problems with your sister too. What a shame. I hope you get well soon. Margaret in Cyprus
I'm so sorry to hear this, Julie. I lost my Mother to cancer in March, 2019 and I still have some extremely hard days. Prayers for you as you try to deal with your sister.
Thank you for the motivation Diane. I am struggling with my sinuses today so even though I had made my bed and I had dealt with my husband's care needs I had dressed but had not had my usual morning shower. After watching part of your video today I got my self in the shower then did a 5 minute room rescue which consisted of putting the laundry away that I had just dumped on the ironing board and I decluttered an old swimsuit and threw away some packaging and labels off some new items. I feel better after taking my shower. Now I am dragging myself off to the supermarket as we are nearly out of bottled water. Thank you for saying if you are not up to 15 minutes decluttering do 5 or ten. I hope you are having a wonderful weekend with your family
Dear Diane, you are such an encouraging woman and you really inspire others! I discovered through your channel and the flylady channel that the biggest problem that I have (and I believe this is nearly universal with women) is MY OWN NEGATIVE SELF-TALK! I never realized what was making me feel so defeated about cleaning, organizing and just general home management. I've been working since I was 17 and I always felt, as many women do, that I am judged by how good I am at my day job as well as how good I am at maintaining my home. However, the biggest critic of all was ME! I began to ask myself where this was coming from and I realized that most women are trying to be superwoman and it just doesn't work. It's like I had and still have (yes, I am still struggling to change this) this inner critic that comments on everything. It's sort of like this: "well, your friend, Betsy works full-time and she has three kids and a very orderly house!" or "Gee, Laura works full time and she doesn't feed her family takeout three days a week. She cooks for her family!" I constantly gave myself criticism, but not compliments for the things I DID! THANK YOU FOR BEING SO ENCOURAGING!
I love seeing how much can get done during a 5 minute room rescue . I often use this method while cleaning up the kitchen in the evening. I set the oven timer and tell myself that I only have to work for 5 minutes. You are right, anyone can work for 5 minutes. Most nights this works, occasionally I have to add 5 more minutes but that is when I feel super motivated to sweep the floor and do a little extra cleaning. I watched the baby step videos a couple of years back and I am enjoying this updated version! Thanks Diane!
Good afternoon Diane and fellow you-tubers!! It is 14:44 in Athens now and I am in the middle of reorganizing my bedroom, bed mattress out in the sun, curtains sun-drying, and 2 plastic garbage bags full of bed linens and clothes to be given to charity (for the refugees) and let's hope that I would have the bed ready to sleep tonight!!!!!! Keep safe everyone!!!!
@@TheaNicolaides Dear Thea, I live in a blessed country with plenty of sunshine and sun-drying the clothes gives them freshness and sanitation!!! destroys the viruses!! Have and nice day!!
I enjoy reading Diane's replies on people's comments. I can hear her encouraging voice. Great recap. I can never hear these tips enough. RUclips is my favourite platform.
Live alone and recovering from hospital stay but am making sure I shine my sink. Amazing how that one little thing helps. The rest of the house, a disaster ☹ Thank you for the pom pom smile time.
Working from home makes getting dressed difficult. But I am starting to make it a point to get dressed anyway. Putting on earrings and doing light makeup is an amazing energy booster.
When I was a teenager my Mom made me select my outfits for the week on Sunday evenings. This way I wasn’t scrabbling to find something clean. But we learned I dress based on my mood so I can’t pick out my clothes until the morning of. Never outgrew that!
I have that same issue. But it works to have a few outfits assembled and ready for a few days(or the week like your mom had). Then, in the morning, just pick one. I always have a few trusty standby that are comfy but put together, because most mornings, I can’t even make that much of a decision. If I can’t think, it is my automatic grab.
That is such a smart idea to have everything ready for the next day. There have been certain clothes that I had only worn to Church, but since I haven't really been able to go to Church since March, I will have to wear those for every day.
I often find it impossible to get to church, too. On those days, I dress for church anyway, and go to RUclips to find some hymns to sing, plus a Sunday school lesson or some scriptures to listen to... I attend church in my home! The spirituL break is an amazing way to celebrate who you are, a child of God. Even if it's just an hour, it refreshes me! The whole week has a warmer flavor and brighter feel...
Diane, I can't thank you enough for your enthusiasm that is catchy! For the first time in years (except when I have a date with my DH) I am thinking about starting dress up nicely again. You made me realize I miss that. You always look so classy and beautiful and it is quite simple as you show us, if we just plan a bit and that's it! I went through some medical problems and cancer and I had kind of given up on looking pretty again. So thank you for reminding me what it feels like to be a woman!
Thank you for sharing this. I’m from South Australia and Spring has just started so feeling super motivated to get things done especially as the weather has been getting much better.
Diane thisis an amazing series; it makes everything very clear about the 31 baby steps. I also Like the few changes you make to the traditional baby steps: all clear at to the point! One thing I wanted to introduce in my routines is the concept of "uniforms": clothes, accessories and jewelry that can be put together to create different looks and occasions. Your way does give me room to do that. Thank yo, you are my best FlyLady!
Yes I can understand now the benefit of taking breaks! I was always the kind of person who as my late mum used to say could take the house apart and build it up again in one go but at 60 and with health and mobility issues that isn't possible any more. Habits die hard but when you just cannot do things you have to learn new habits!
Nice idea to recap in YT. I don't always catch you on Insta... Not a habit yet! I'm working on my hot spot -its a daily habit now. Setting out an OOTD for the next day just isn't working for me... Our weather is crazy right now.. 50°F one day, and 80°F the next. Argh! And planning the next day's activity is not really working either... Yet. Will I have the grandkids and be at home, or if not, can I go out and about? The other steps I'm just double-checking as I've done them before. The household binder is going to get a rework in a few weeks, after hubby gets moved out here -Yay! - and he can get worked into it (either by him participating, or by me accomodating another person's schedule... or both!). Room rescue would have to be the main bathroom... The grandkids use that one 😉. And I have a habit of decluttering now, so that's good, too! Yay! Refreshers are great, not just for starting new, but as a review to see how well were 'holding the pattern'!
Love these videos! also love your blouse today, as a type 4 I would wear that in a heartbeat...thanks for doing these, I have missed your videos..love having my coffee with you every day.Have a great Weekend!

That awkward moment when the 5 min room rescue turns into you putting donation items that have been at your door in months into my car. With the date to Goodwill after I get my workout done tonight...
I have been flyladying for 4 months now and i still CANNOT get the hang of the timer. I put it on for 15 min, dutifully stop and take my break and then start working again wondering when the timer is gonna go off, and it always turns out i have forgotten to set it! Grr. So i may well get everything done but i don't really know how long it has taken me 🤦♀️
I did this a bunch too! Don't beat yourself up. Just keep going forward 🙂. 4 months is not long at all to change lifelong habits. I found the flylady system 18 years ago and had deeply imbedded all-or-nothing thinking (in other words, I was a tough nut to crack!). I slowly learned to give myself a break and plodded along imperfectly. Everything has come around slowly but surely! What helped me the MOST was to pick 1 task (ex. fold and put away 1 load of clean laundry) then set my timer on stopwatch mode and see how long it actually took me. This kept me on-task and it was fun to see that most tasks took far less time than I thought! It became kind of a fun game for me. I wrote down the time spent for various tasks. And now I set my timer for THAT amount of time when doing a given task. This has really helped me with decluttering 1 pile of paper, 1 drawer, 1 shelf etc.

This kept me on-task and it was fun to see that most tasks took far less time than I thought! It became kind of a fun game for me. I wrote down the time spent for various tasks. And now I set my timer for THAT amount of time when doing a given task. This has really helped me with decluttering 1 pile of paper, 1 drawer, 1 shelf etc.
yetta wat great tip! I even already do this for some other tasks and yet it hasn’t occurred to me to do this for some flylady tasks 😂
Where did you get those pop up hampers?
They were a Christmas gift many years ago from the Flylady...she used to sell them on the Flylady website.
