  • I saw video by CARCYCLES on how to fix that stuck up or unsmooth shifting you get on the 1st and 2nd gear.
After testing it out, I find it to be a great hack and suggest you do the same on your G86 or BRZ.
    Tools:
    - Pry Tool
    - Screw Driver
    - 10mm Wrench
    Optional:
    - Masking Tape

I measured the gap at my 2023 brz, it was around 0.9mm that's probably the reason I messed up a couple upshifts from first to second, every single time I shift from 1st to second I had to really jam the stick into second so that it engages, I now adjusted the space to around 2.3mm it works like a dream it shifts super smoothly and no matter how hard I put it in reverse without lifting the locking ring It will not go into reverse by any means, this is by far the best mod I have ever done to my brz , thank you so much for making this kind of video I wish all brz/gr86 owners can see it and try it themselves it's life changing!!!

I think this is the first time I ever heard that the gap is less than 1mm.

when I shift it to 1st the gap between the stop and the locking ring can barely fit a credit later I measure the carrd being around .91 .92 mm. it's kind of crazy they only left thiis much gap in it@@39gjapan

Alright, the installation was a bit painfull because I didn't have the perfect Plastic-Prying-tool laying around. But I just used a fork wrapped in some tape...worked relatively okay.
I must say I feel that it's subjectively smoother.
There's one additional mod I did: I put a little bit of lube (205g0, yes I'm a mechanical keyboard enthousiast) on the side metal piece of the shifter and the little blocking thing. That way it'll rub less harshly when it eventually does hit the side and metal scrapes against metal.
Thank you a lot for the video!

The lockout is not removed and is still there, so no worries on putting it in reverse unless you pull up the lockout for reverse. Still the same.

@@39gjapan I think I just need to make the gap a little tighter. Pushing the lockout bracket tightly against the shifter lockout with the popsicle stick and then tightening the bolts was the fix! Having the lockout bracket to far out was having the shifter getting stuck against some sort of metal notch around 2nd. It just required some fine tuning. But awesome mod!
