    I'm simply using standard mat board, in this case made by Crescent. It can be purchased at any art ssupply store like Michaels, Hyatt's or similar big box type stores.
    Let me know if you have any other questions!

    Yes, you could use either. An Exacto knife is probably easier to use than just a razor blade. The only draw back is that they will not produce a beveled cut in the mat - which is not essential - just typical. If you plan on cutting your own mats on a regular or semi-regular basis I would suggest you get a mat cutter.

    How about being able to cut letters onto mat boards? How is this for that.

      Nolan Hughes I've never tried to cut letters out of mat board, but I suppose it can be done. Maybe someone else can comment on that who has experience.

    Hey Al,
    I'm wanting to make my own frames. I can make the wooden frames and fit it with the glass but i'm having trouble finding the mat and backing online. I've tried looking online at places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels but they seem to only offer pre cut mats. The art i'm looking to frame is irregular size and therefore i need uncut mat. Any suggestions?

      Paul Boudreau Hi Paul, I'm not sure where you are located, but try a local art store (like Michaels). You should be able to buy single sheets of 32 x 40 mat board of various colors. You can also buy single sheets of foam board there too. There are framing sites that sell 32 x 40 sheets on-line, but typically you have to buy a minimum of 25 sheets - unless you are planning to make a lot of frames that's probably not going to help! Good luck with your frames!

    Can you just use a box cutter or x-acto knife?

    • @pictureframeyourself
      @pictureframeyourself  8 лет назад +4

      +atsay714 yes, you can. The only difference is that you won't have a beveled edge. While a beveled edge is a typical look for a mat, it is not mandatory.
