Blair represented Chanel All preppy and sophisticated with tweed jackets and very femine Classic dresses Serena represented Chloe. A very chic equestrian look and a little bohemian at times but yes ypu see the Chloe brand and you think Serena. Finallly Jenny is the representantion of YSL which stylish rock or glam rock.

I personally think Jenny's storyline was carrying this show at one point. I remember identifying with her as I too decided to ditch my lifestyle of closet full of prep, Friday night lights, and small town house parties for scene haircuts skinny jeans, after school hangouts getting into nothing/ everything at all and Friday nights shows downtown.
i love her style because everyone in gossip girl had very sophisticated colorful wardrobes that i also loved but the fact that they included grunge and goth into the wardrobe of a character was really amazong

This was an amazing analysis! Jenny's style arc reminds me a bit of Hanna from Pretty Little Liars (albeit Hanna's was not quite as extreme). Both start off as a copycat of the queen bee (Blair in GG, Alison in PLL), go through multiple style identities throughout their character development, rebel against that world, and eventually come back around to a style that suits their identity.
This channel keeps impressing me with how much research goes into every video. There's so much thought and effort put into all the videos I've seen and we love to see it. The editing, the psychological takes on characters' style choices/evolutions... all of it. Yes. So much yes.

This was amazing! I loved the psychology behind her evolution and how you broke down how she reacted to others due to her style and mentality at the time. I've always had a soft spot for Jenny as she seemed to be a normal teen girl but was viewed as horrible just because she was honest about her ambition

That just shows she knows what she’s doing and not afraid to do what she wants. She falls victim because although she’s not “poor”, she herself feels that way and feels as if she’s beneath the Upper East Siders, which makes her do anything she can to not feel that way. Again, you can chalk this up to her being this evil character, or you can realize that there are more external factors that affect her as a person. The external factors change people like Jenny because those factors are out of our/her control; she simply has to either adapt or “die”, which is how we humans are wired.

She knew she couldn’t fight back since Blair had too much influence on the “social order” and she had to either fall victim to being bullied and humiliated or become this mean Queen Bee in order for her not to regress back to season 1/2 Jenny.

He held double standards, letting Dan do whatever he wanted, but being vigilant and controlling towards anything Jenny wanted to do. So that obviously strained their relationship. And Dan, as we know, is Gossip Girl, so how could Jenny develop a strong positive relationship with her brother, if her own brother was out to ruin the lives of those she interacted with? Not a very good role model if you ask me. Neither her dad, her mom (who abandoned them) or her brother were good role models; so it shouldn’t surprise anyone why she became the way she did.

Emily in Paris is the reason I began watching Gossip Girl! I never watched Gossip Girl when I was in college (when it was popular). Gossip was mentioned on Emily, that's why I decided to watch it. I love both series!
When I was 13 the "emo" trend was going full blast and I experimented with my hair and clothing. Unfortunately my narcissistic parent didn't want for me to develop my own personality and thus banned me from expressing myself through fashion or makeup. They would call me a wh*re for wearing red lipstick, or tanktops. It was actually very degrading and destroyed me as a person to the point that even as an adult I don't feel valid in my own existence. I really appreciated no matter how much Jenny's makeup turned Rufus off, he never called her names, or forced her to change. It just really pisses me off that parents can hurt their children like that and not even care.

Hi, thanks for another great video. I'd like to make one suggestion and I hope it doesn't come off as rude! I love your video essays in both script and editing. However, the narration is difficult to listen to because a comma and a full stop sounds the same. I'm hearing the same amount of tone and pause for both. Because of this, a lot of great points in the video can be lost because the viewer isn't sure to get ready to the next one or if we're still listening to the old sentence! Hope we get to see more great content!
when i first watched GG, a few years back, i absolutely hated Jenny. but after rewatching it again i could see so much of myself in her. especially when i was 16. trying to fit in, her artistic expression, rebellion from her family, her feelings. really made me feel for her. not a huge fan of the rock style, i don’t hate it but i thought the long platinum blonde didn’t fit her, although i can respect how unique and genius it is.
I love Jennys style so much. For the longest time as a kid I didn't know she was the lead singer of pretty reckless, I thought they were two different people, and I was like they look alike so much omg. lol 😂

I'm hearing the same amount of tone and pause for both. Because of this, a lot of great points in the video can be lost because the viewer isn't sure to get ready to the next one or if we're still listening to the old sentence!

when i first watched GG, a few years back, i absolutely hated Jenny. but after rewatching it again i could see so much of myself in her. especially when i was 16. trying to fit in, her artistic expression, rebellion from her family, her feelings. really made me feel for her. not a huge fan of the rock style, i don’t hate it but i thought the long platinum blonde didn’t fit her, although i can respect how unique and genius it is.
I love Jennys style so much. For the longest time as a kid I didn't know she was the lead singer of pretty reckless, I thought they were two different people, and I was like they look alike so much omg. lol 😂
her makeup was horrible though with the dark lipstick and dark eyeshadow
