@@jivewig According to Strava he was in La Paz, Mexiko between Oct. 10th and 14th. I can see him flying to California for a few hours just for this lol. Edit: yes I'm the kind of guy who stalks Bottas on Strava.
Volkswagen has always been in my heart. The Mk3 Jetta was the car I learned how to drive a stick with. Then I got a manual MkV Jetta 2.5. Seeing the Beetles and the Busses together at the end, not gonna lie, I shed a few tears. I really hope Volkswagen pulls through.
Jason, you are an actual genius. The best automotive writing since David E Davis and Csaba Csere. The videography and editing is as tight as your van, Jynah too. Thank you for another amazing Icons!
Interestingly, how different the Volkswagen icons are for us, 30-40 yr olds in Europe: Golf 4, Passat B4 and B5 (Variant, of course!), Transporters T4 and T5. All beloved and still frequently seen on the streets.
The Miura belongs to Derek Tam-Scott, Jason's co-host on the Carmudgeon Show. I don't believe it would have been a hard get for them, especially since Derek is usually part of the other Hagerty shoots as well.
I never realized the New Beetle was such a US play, it almost makes me hope they bring out a new one when they're ready for a passion project again but that's exactly right passion is missing. But so is quality. I saw an iD.4 in my local dealer 4 years ago that had the plastic cowl seperating on the lot. And they thought they could kill off the Golf? I wish they knew what they had before they threw it out away in that respect. It'll be a shame when they do. The Buzz just makes you smile though and that's a lot more you can ask of a car in 2024 than anything else!
I fell in love with the concept, and it was so close to whatever this is. I feel like you have to put "almost" in front of every positive thing you said...
Man oh man !!! This is the most entertaining and finest car journalism..... I have known so far ..Please don't stop doing this..... Congrats to the entire team. The Seltos part was quite funny 🤣🤣
As much as I want this as the family hauler it just misses the mark on multiple measures. The Original was my school bus growing up. The nostalgia of this version just isn’t going to cut it it nowadays.Too pricey, sw questions, low range, slow charging speed, not roomy enough relative to other minivans….and on and on… Oh yeah, awesome video.
Those old commercials are the best. "We're going to unpimp your riiiide." I think that every car guy above 35 years old has a VW story. They either owned one, or knew someone close who did. They're undoubtedly tied to US car culture. Let's hope they pull through again.
24:15 nail on the head for the modern motor industry. People want a car which connects with them, from the family car to a supercar, it has to have identity and emotion. Sadly cars are made to make money, purely transportation devices devoid of emotion, which in the long run, ironically, are losing money for the car makers
While the older-gen ID. software/infotainment UX was indeed absolutely sub-par, the updated current gen is actually quite good, nowhere near an F. No idea about differences to the US spec, but there in the Fatherland I would even go as far as ranking the EV route planning and ADAS features among the best.
Buzz could have been a home run but the delays of bringing the long wheelbase to North America and small battery are frustrating, especially at its price. Maybe next model year?
Been a VW guy since I could drive first car was a mk3 vr6 golf, then a mk4 bora(jetta) v6 4motion, passage w8, then a mk 5 tdi golf, First gen amarok tdi, and another amarok v6 tdi, 2nd and 3rd gen Crafters, t6 transporter tdi 4motion, 2nd gen touareg v6 tdi and 3rd gen touareg v8 tdi. But the ID line ain't doing squat for me except the ID buzz that's one cool cat shame about the range
If I picture an all electric-powered van for long trips and cruises, battery-only powertrain is definitely not in my list. For this kind of vehicle, it needs to be either a range-extending EV or a hydrogen fuel cell-powered EV.
I am a contractor, but I don’t wanna pick up truck or a huge van, so the buzz is right size for me. My problem is I live in Quebec, Canada, and the middle of winter Electric cars struggle with range due to cold weather. 70% of my driving is under 100 km/60 mile , but that leaves me with a useless vehicle for 30% of the time as my other trips will take multiple stops to charge. Unlike Europeans , generally driving 6 to 10 hours straight to a destination is a normal thing. thinking of highbred solution?
Jason you killed it. Don’t stop doing what you do!
The video is 52 minutes old and you commented 48 minutes ago watch the video first
Yeah he's top tier to watch cause of his personality and presentation
The production quality is better than a movie
Very much true..
Got blue balls from waiting for another Icons video. Today is a good day
Right!
Some car videos are hack jobs.
Icons videos are whack jobs.
Always "coming" back for more 😱
@@glh_somemorequality over quantity

This is the FINEST auto journalism in the whole F*CKING WORLD
Is that Bottas?? 5:15
my question exactly! We need answers!
Don’t imagine him flying all the way to US and spending a whole day at the shoot in the middle of the busiest F1 calendar for a 2 second cameo
@@jivewig more side quests for him?

Bottas rides a Canyon so no it isnt Bottas. Also the guy looks different

Here for Jason

That reg plate is the best joke ever… VAG-jynah? Or is that just my mind?
That’s the joke, he’s made that joke about his minivan camera car for years, VANjynah
Number plate looks like a phonetic spelling of Trump saying "China" lol
Van-Jynah was Jason's minivan, a Chrysler Pacifica iirc. He sold it
Didn't think a scene change from Jason Cammisa holding a bong to Hitler smiling at a model VW Beetle was in the cards today... 11/10 as always
Interestingly, how different the Volkswagen icons are for us, 30-40 yr olds in Europe: Golf 4, Passat B4 and B5 (Variant, of course!), Transporters T4 and T5. All beloved and still frequently seen on the streets.
Can we all agree that Randy is pure gold?
More icons video, we are missing it for long time
Cammisa/Esposito production is next level. Killed it!!! Also Andy is just as good acting as is racing driving!! Amazing
I can't believe they got a Miura just for this. Gorgeous video
The Miura belongs to Derek Tam-Scott, Jason's co-host on the Carmudgeon Show. I don't believe it would have been a hard get for them, especially since Derek is usually part of the other Hagerty shoots as well.
i guess it pays to have a friend who owns a miura (Derek from the carmudgeon show and OTS&co)
Mán, your team is good!
This was súch a pleasure to watch!
Not least due to including tunez you can dance to... 🤩
The closest to old Top Gear. Thank you Jason, not all heroes get studio audiences.

MK1 GTI goodness, van "Jynah" plates on the Buzz, Derek Tam hyphen Scott's yellow Miura finally getting some time in the sun?
Far out duuuude

You’ve GOT to be Stoned to buy a VW these days😂😎
The best automotive journalist. The best production team. The best automotive documentaries. Thanks!
Best icons to date
It’s been long waiting for Jason
The production on this is just something else. Top of the RUclips for sure.
Omg the intro had me laughing so hard😂
JYNAH.. I see what you did there lol, well played.
5:12 Bottas?
my question exactly! We need answers!
Very close
Yep I had to rewind and pause !!
5:14 I did not exactly expect Valtteri Bottas in a Drag Race on Hagerty... on a bicycle...😅

The Seltos part was quite funny 🤣🤣
A couple seconds in, and the van, Jhinah (or at least the plate) already got a cameo
Why aren't you viral yet?!
We don’t deserve videos this incredible.
Once Lithium batteries are replaced with much safer battery technology, then I will consider owning one if the MSRP is reasonable. Cheers 🇨🇦
The fact that every new icons video I go looking for hyphen like im reading a where's Waldo never get boring!!!
Randy hitting the bong! Sweet 👍💪✌
The other icon here is Camisa. And Hagerty for giving him creative license and generous financial support.
what a documentary. it's not only about VW but also the history. and u guys acting skills are great..your twin bro ADAM would be proud of you J.😂
1:03 A van called Jynah? A.. Vanjynah? Hehe
I just about spit out the water I was drinking when I saw the Stanford Indians plate frame on the Miura... LOL
Will be very interesting to see how this video ages! Fantastic content as always Jason!
Fantastic color grading on the video. Micheal Bay would be proud!

This is the funniest drag race I've seen aside from Carwow's Ami vs e-bike vs scooter race.

Production quality is always phenomenal I want a buzz now and I think it's silly and will fail. This video was awesome though
Hey Hagerty
Could you please release making of videos about these video
Crazy that the props dept. was able to find a fake 3ft glass bong. Wild man...
So entertaining, it’s the right way to start a Monday. Thank you Hagerty, you guys are awesome
Gotta watch this before i drive to school in my golf while eating breakfast in my VW shirt
Superb video with stellar production quality. This Jetta owner thanks you!
You just one upped yourselves! Great job, informative in an intuitive way and so, so visually appealing. Best one yet!
Hilarious! 😂 Well done 👏🏻
Ya know, guess I never realized this…I’m a VW guy… my first car was the Bug, then the Rabbit, and now I own a 914….damn…
Vehicle type: Van
Plate: Jynah
I see what you did there cammisa

5:32 Hyphen of course driving a carbureted V12 manual classic in a video about an electric bus
The ending🤤
A bus is not on a beetle chassis.
It is much different.
How do I give this video 10 thumbs up? Amazing. ❤
This guy has to power to stop me from whatever I'm doing to find time for his videos.
The Miura was a nice flex.
Aaaahhhhh. I looooove it!

Fantastic!!!!!!!
That was fantastic!
I've always joking referred to the Beetle as the Hitlermobile, I didn't know it was actually commissioned by him. 😅
Jason did you buy the throttle house mk1?
*sees Jason Cammisa's name in the first second of the video, immediately likes said video
Valteri, this is James.
Thank you for this

2:50 is why I love the future.
$70,000 for a VW minivan is a nonstarter.
Literally what VW needs to do to succeed is search whatever drug is cool right now and base a car on that, since they already did it twice
i would totally smoke with jason
Oh snap, right before work too. Imma be late…
When did the Käfer get the name Käfer?

a bus! - "It's built on a beetle chasis" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ - however, this is an awesome video, well done..
The subtitles on is a must. So good hahah.
