I say he is the most important part of the shows success. A film or show is nothing without a good score. He is to game of thrones what john williams is to star wars. Those franchises wouldn't be nearly as successful without their amazing scores.

That honour belongs to GRRM. It's his story and characters that made GoT so interesting. S8 is proof that without good writing even excellent music couldn't save the show.
