You are correct, there is nothing like the feeling of sinking into a masterpiece. And that is precisely what I would label this creation. The months of work, research and endless creative choices that ultimately led to the creation of this video. A video that successfully conveys in words what many who have played through this game felt as they transversed its seemingly endless caverns and halls. And from somebody who has not played a minute of the game itself, you allowed me as well to understand what players of the game would have without the multiple expositions, and for that I am tremendously grateful as I myself struggle to accomplish this in video essays of my own. Your effort to appeal to anyone interested, in spite of the fact that they may have never played Hollow Knight or any other games you create video essays about, will put your channel in a position that can attract any and all lovers of video games. A position in which you may grow a loving fanbase which appreciates your videos and the effort that goes into them as much as I do, perhaps even more.
I write my essays knowing that there is a fair chance that at most only a few hundred people will see them, but I write anyway, out of hope that I can connect with others who appreciate art as I do. To hear that this has touched the heart of even one person means the world to me. Thank you for your heartwarming comment, it has made my day.
A one hour Hollow Knight video I haven't seen yet? And no wonder, it only has 331 views. After seeing that I assumed the video might be rambly and disconnected, but this is a super well made video and deserves more recognition!
Hollow knight is my favorite game, period. The atmosphere is one of the richest I have ever experienced out of any game, and rightfully so. My friend would always ask me, "Why do you like it *so* much?" and I always resorted to the atmosphere, but I never really felt that saying the word "atmosphere" alone did it enough justice. I couldn't explain the profound beauty of the city of tears, the somber attitude of dirtmouth, the wonder of kingdom's edge, but I felt that there had to be a way to describe it. What you've made here manages to encapsulate all my feelings for Hollow Knight into one expertly crafted video. I cannot praise you enough for finally capturing the words that I have struggled to find this whole time. I've put this as one of my favorites. Hell, I might even come back to watch it sometime later. I cannot thank you enough for what you've made here, I just wish I could spread it to more people. Thank you.
It fills me with joy knowing that I am not alone in that seemingly indescribable feeling of praise for a work of art. What I try my best to do is to put my feelings into words, and put those words into essays justifying the innate beauty of works like Hollow Knight. I am ever so happy to hear that my process is able to help others voice their feelings too!
came from the HK discord I like your essay style, very enjoyable to watch I'd say this video itself has a well crafted atmosphere all its own you put a lot of love into this and it shows I will have to watch more of your essays for sure subbed!
I literally never noticed the chatting of the queens station. I just thought quirrel was unknowingly remembering his life in the kingdom. Damn. Now i love that area a lot more. Also this is a really well made video, like it is clear a ton of effort was put into this. You deserve more subscribers.
Amazing analysis of this masterpiece. I found this video on the Steam community page, after closing the game, and it instantly caught me. I loved how you summarized the atmosphere, design, lore, and player experience, for the start of the game. You said some things that I haven't got the time yet to reflect, that I would only realize if I started the game again. Things that I experienced but had not expressed into words. And the way you delivered it was expertly done, with a tone and mystery matching those of the game, and a deep analysis, noticeably well researched. Thank you for your effort! The hour spent was completely worthy and you earned my subscription!
I love searching Hollow Knight and finding gems in the form of videos like this that bring forth details that I first fell in love with and more that I just happened to miss! Amazing video, my friend!!!
You literally make the content I would love to create. You execute these videos perfectly. I will be looking forward to more. It's obvious you pour your heart and soul into these.
This guy took my 2 favorite games and made videos about them before anything else. You gained a loyal follower today. Well made, and thought out essays.
You are an exceptionally adept analyst of exceptional games! After this and your Hyper Light Drifter, I would love see something similar on Blasphemous. While I'm a big fan of indies, I have to say that truly outstanding games from an indie are comparatively rare. The combination of a brilliant vision and the incredible amount of hard work, coordination, and sheer will that it takes is just hard to come by. Most indies are lucky to have just one of the two.
I’m happy to hear it! I’m on a quick break right now since things are getting rather busy where I am, and I don’t want to put something out just to have it there. Even still, I’m super excited to get back into this and write more about what I love!
it realy suprised me to realise you got such a small subscriber count, quality of your video is amazing, imma sub, looking forward to more content from you, it was a great video
Excellent video! great job! On paper, hollow knight should be one of my all time favorite games. I love the genre, the art style is beautiful. This game is directly up my alley, and should be, my cup of tea. But I just couldn't click with it. I think I went about 15-20 hours before I dropped it. I really respect what they made, but just something about it didn't work for me. I'm normally pretty good at all forms of platformers, and metroidvanias, and usually prefer them to be very challenging. but something about the movement and the combat in hollow knight just felt wrong to me. I've heard so many people sing high praises of the movement and combat as one of the best parts of the game, but I just couldn't get it. super meat boy, Celeste dlc, crazy hard Mario maker levels, insane bullet hell games, I have no problems with, that's my jam, but even basic platforming in hollow knight, in areas that aren't even "hard" we're incredibly punishing to me and I have no idea why. Also, the screen shake when you get hit was really bothersome to me, not sure if there's a way to turn that off. Anyway, while I don't get joy from playing hollow knight, I do love hearing people talk about it, and you did an amazing job
few game's art has immersed me as much as hollow knight has (rain world comes to mind) and its one of the least talked about things in this game, I'm glad someone talked about it.
