I love Markiplier-oriented achievements (ones that require doing something silly that's not pertinent to the game whatsoever and something anyone who plays like Mark would try to do) at the beginning of games. Playing Prey (2017), he jumped in the helicopter blades during the tutorial phase and got an achievement for it. I love finding those obscure ones.

The reason it didn’t let you put it on the man twisted like a pretzel is because of a glitch. When they twist to the side, it’s trying to get you to walk out into the hallway. It’s supposed to happen during the embalming process but instead happened in the cold storage. He didn’t twist back to normal because the jumpscare didn’t happen.

With the random nature of the game, it would be hilarious if at some point in a replay, the player got a night where nothing happens at all. No possession. Nothing weird. The way people would be on edge the whole playthrough would kind of be interesting honestly.
If I'm not wrong dark wood did that a couple times, it was crazy tense.

The ashes and matches actually help you narrow down finding the correct body.
After seeing multiple videos of this game not a single person uses the ashes or matches or even finds them so due to mark finding the matches and ashes i decided to ask uncle google what these are for thinking they are for an easter egg or secret ending.
Turns out putting the ashes on a body and lighting it with the matches will reveal a sigil/mark of the demon allowing you to figure out which body is the correct one better. The sigil/mark still has to match the correct house of the demon but doing this with the ashes will help alot in determining which body is correct
Right! The answer was in the Typhon "verses" he found in the drawer at the beginning: Typhon sprinkled the ashes over his disciples and the marks of the demon houses were revealed.

You can only use this trick once. Each body has a house symbol on it but only one is right. If you pick the wrong body to use the ash on you have to guess with the others.
I saw mark find the ash, paused the video and played with it in my own game and used it on a body thinking it was part of one of the ghost events (where the patient changes into someone in Rebecca's life) and i haad the idea to use the matches. cool af!

It's a shame this game is so hampered with severe bugs like the "pretzel" body, but then again, it's already pretty impressive that the whole game was developed by a single guy, at least he's willing to fix as many bugs as possible.
I watched Insym play the first day it launched and it was super buggy

Yeah, considering DarkStone Digital is just a single guy it's understandable there'd be bugs, but he's been working super hard since launch to fix all the bugs people have been finding, which I imagine has been pretty difficult given the randomized nature of the game. I think he actually may stream himself doing bug fixes? At least sometimes. I know he would stream development of the game, which was cool.

A lot of them have been patched and fixed, this was filmed on release so marks playthrough likely wouldn’t have had so many bugs if played now if that makes sense. It’s impressive the game was made by one person and that they’ve been fixing heaps of the glitches

I was so distessed over Mark completely missing the lines above the numbers showing what order to open the mouths that my brain totally tuned out the creepy atmosphere and demon jumpscare.

I do the same thing idk why but it does kinda feel like protection. It's like the only weapon you have against the demon in a way since it helps you find the name but...I've even held one up after finding the fourth sigil. I really don't know what about it is comforting lol!

@@sarahz9273 absolutely not an expert, and I'm typing this from memory, but muscle spasms after death can do all sorts of TERRIFYING things such as bodies moaning and grunting, twitching, and in op's aunt's case, the corpse sitting up, which is horrible, terrifying, and i hate it.
As for the game bodies get embalmed a little bit after death, so usually only bloating happens, that's why you can't exactly assume that it's just muscle spasms.
If i got anything wrong, please for the love of god correct me. It's 4 am and i got back home from a surgery just today.

This game hits the "real life" haunting tropes so well. Like, the scare at 25:08 is just an invisible shove, no instrument sting, no monster. Just the knowledge that something you cannot see wants to harm you.

That scare where you're looking at the mannequins and the demon randomly pretends to be one is SO good. The atmosphere is creepy, but you're guard goes down when none of the mannequins do anything, and the demon doesn't attack it just stands there and then leaves

this game does that good bc of the excuse of being an assistant doing the same thing everytime, in the same order ...

We need more horror games like this, randomly generated, sometimes very subtle, keeps you on edge. I’ve played the game, and seen many play throughs on RUclips and I still find new scares. The grandma thing was absolutely terrifying
Mark acts so casual when a demon starts to make noise and tells it to be quiet.
The slight facial changes of the bodies that the dev put in are so good. Wouldn’t even notice it if the game wasn’t as randomized as it is. My eyes are constantly looking for something new to happen

I think it’s the quiet that makes this game so creepy. The long stretches of tense nothingness, just waiting for something to happen and when it finally does, there’s no big surge of music and a loud bang, most of the time it’s just something in the edge of your vision being creepy as fuck. It reminds me of the Conjuring, the jumpscare of the red demon thing behind the guy’s head, just suddenly there

Body: pointing directly at a clearly jostling door with some important plot device inside.
Mark: I don’t know what to do so I’m just gonna use the wrong one.
You know, I never thought about it until Mark pointed out her current living situation at the beginning: the work that the main character puts in trying to make up for the guilt she feels really paid off for her. The only other apartment we see in the game is the the one from her addict stage and her new apartment is decently modern looking and comfortable. She got her shit together (with the help of Grandma as pointed out below) and just happened to end up in a terrifying job for the rest of her life.
Also the fact that after you play through once your key card gets full access is a nice touch.

You can't really tell from Mark's playthrough because he just didn't get certain jump scares, but there is a story behind it all. Her mom was an addict, died, she became and addict, dad died trying to save her one day. Then she went to live with grandma and straightened up. That's the gist of it lol

It's for these reasons I think the closure ending should involve her sobriety coins as well as her dad's necklace. The necklace is proof of her guilt but the coins are proof that she worked hard to better herself after his death. All of them together show how hard she worked and what her motivation is, making that ending much sweeter imo

It's amazing that there are so many different scares that you might not run into the same one again.
I've seen Mark play quite a lot of different horror games, but this is one of the ones that genuinely scares me. With the jumpscares and demons being so random plus Mark being terrified as well.

I super love the fact that Mark is the first playthrough I've watched where he actually tries to let the grandma in and it turns into a whole different scare. So cool how different this game is on every playthrough, the developer did such a great job 👏

See, when that scare happened to me I was on my third body with Stage 4 (5? I was starting to draw an actual symbol) Possession so I was thinking that if I let her in then I would've been possessed. And I was on track to get one of the 3 other endings so I didn't want to fail out by getting possessed lol.
If it happens again in one of my next playthroughs then I'll open the window.
Interesting fact about mortuary work: as I understand it they usually have someone who specializes in embalming come in to do the process because you need special training and safety gear to work with the OUTRAGEOUSLY TOXIC chemicals they put in dead bodies to keep them looking fresh.
The protagonist has a plot armor, she can't get intoxicated.
Outrageously toxic might be a bit extreme. If you ingest more than 2 tablespoons of formaldehyde it can inflame your lungs, throat and nose which can lead to suffocation. But there are plenty of things you can't go around ingesting. A chemist like nilered works with far more toxic chemicals. E.g. cyanide (0,1g is a lethal dose if you weigh 70kg) or hydrogen flouride (1,4g for lethal dose)

Licensed funeral apprentice here. Not to correct you, but to run the Funeral home, a license as a funeral director is required. A Funeral Director license is in two forms, one is just as a director, the other is as an embalmer. Generally a funeral home employs their own embalmer (they may also be a funeral director and embalmer). Also, generally don't really need too much safety gear, I'm full time employed at my funeral home and assist with embalmings and usually just wear gloves and a smock. Yes, the chemicals can be a bit of a pain, but usually there's enough air flow that it's not that bad, not enough to have to wear a respirator or anything like that for sure.
I could see Mark turning his head right when he discovered each number on the faces so I thought he was writing them down. Also, I think that after this he should have gone back up instead of ahead to the grave, he would still have the key.

Some old computers used to have this. Contrary to what the button implies this makes your computer SLOWER because some old games had the fps of the game directly tie to the clock speed of the CPU so the game would run too fast and became hard to play.
