Thanks Ed, really enjoyed sharing this story. I'm halfway through the restoration now and its going to be very special once fully restored
Thanks Scott for this unbelievable car story. I can't fathom why the bloke just let the car sit and rot away. Considering the history and prominence of the car, you may have scored your unicorn!
@@theanomalous1401 I really can’t wait to get this one fully restored and drive it fir the first time back on the road
@@Ratarossa you answer!?! Love seeing your vids! You give me false hope that in a tiny garage things taken apart can be hole again 😉
Same here, why the owner left it to decay is beyond me, a wash, and a short drive once a month is all it would take, but I guess the guy didn't care for whatever reason. This would be an interesting question to ask the gentleman if you ever get a chance. BTW, what is going on with the car, I think I watch most, if not all your vlogs, and don't recall any lately? 👍✌
I knew exactly what this was when I saw the thumbnail. So glad Ed and the crew got you to come in and share the story!!!
Ok, I have to admit, I thought this came from the collection that is rotting in non climate controlled storage, but those will never be seen again.
Not a Saudi prince, That’s the sultan of Brunei
The best cars of the Brunei collection are not rotting away. A McLaren F1 was spotted just a few weeks ago at Heathrow coming in for a service from Brunei and it appeared to be in really good shape.
Ppl who cant take care of cars like this should never be able to buy them
@@tj9959 I don't follow exotics that closely, only watched one video(over a year ago) on some rich somebody stashing 100s of cars.
@@sy2km234 not really true. One Mclaren F1 doesn’t mean that the pictures of other F1’s F40’s &50’s XJ220’s EB110’s etc aren’t real
Hats off to this gentleman for restoring these rare pieces of automobile history💯
Kudos for discussing price. Most folks are scared to death to do so.
It's smart move to do the evaluation himself so no one can think to low ball when he try to sell
What an amazing story. A man of immense character to save the car not for the profit, but for the process and restoration. Every time he tells a story on this channel I love it. You can tell how passionate he is about his cars, and I admire that so much.
Nerd
Yea I’m sure turning 130k into 300k plus RUclips profits had nothing to do with it lol
@@pummer If you watch the restore videos, you’ll see the effort going into this.
@@Rascularvideos yes all done on the cheap by Scott not professionals

It burns me SO much when people steal priceless objects like they did from that car.. what a tragedy to have lost the complete original toolkit. I pray someone comes clean one day and it's recovered for you.. The power of the internet is strong!
Its a labor of love. I bought a 72’ V12 Jaguar Etype for $9k… 5 years and $120k later, I have one of the nicest $70k Etypes in town lol… except its not running atm. Sigh… I do love it tho.
Has to be the bloody Lucas electrical system buggering it up?
Police and stealing things. Name a more iconic duo 🤣🤣
Umm... Ren and Stimpy.
@@ae86hachi haven't been around for decades doing it. Police been stealing from people since day 1
Amazing to think it sat outside in the open for years and years and remained a complete car but within 6 months of being in police hands multiple components had been stolen from the car. That lets the public know where the actual criminals are.
@@yourtaxdollarsatwork2294 our nation's largest criminal enterprise and its tax payer funded.
The uk police are some of the worst, most corrupt police in the 1st world nations.
Ammo is the best, absolutely love the transformations and information on every episode. That car is going to be amazing when completed. What a great find! Congratulations
Funny thing: That engine is NOT technically a "boxer", it is a 180 degree V12
Great video!
Would you take a chance on a neglected exotic?
Nope
If im rich
I remember watching these videos as they happened. He's incredibly methodical in his approach to bringing a car back.
Many years ago back in 1990 there was a Ferrari Mondial parked up under a tree on the front lawn of a house down the Bishops Avenue N2. It never ever moved for years and was covered in green tree sap and dirt......always used to amaze me every time i drove past it 🙂
Great video matey.
Who does such a thing? Being so neglected, I wonder if the owner would have cared if someone else "reclaimed" it for themselves.
Owner: “I will never sell this car!” Then, lets it completely rot in his driveway for two decades. Makes a lot of sense. 🙄
Some people are just idiots, I guess ... sad, really!
then the other guy "it's not about the money ........ but it's going to be worth £300,000 for putting £160,000 in plus all the youtube view money....."
I never understood how someone can afford a 6400 miles 1of1 Ferrari and then let it rot on the driveway. Why not have it in a garage? Even a storage unit or a car capsule would be pennies compared to the money lost on value letting it rot.
I think people like this might be suffering from a mental disorder, just a guess though 🤷♂️
@@Red2l16v / Maybe holding on to part of a previous life. Change of fortune, but someone developed a deep emotional bond with an item or asset. Possibly couldn’t afford upkeep, but cash flow not limited to the point that they have to sell that one item. They also maybe thought on some level it was their nest-egg which would grow in value… but lacked foresight to properly protect it. Degradation over time can be missed when it happens in-front of you slowly
It's more like £500k than £300k. There is a same year bbi which is one of 42 rhd for sale with 59,000 miles for £300k. The story and documentation and milage is more at £500k plus.
check dupont registry - ones with low miles for sale for $230k to $300k (for mint). (£194 to £250k). maybe he was not too far off. RHD alone doesn't make it all that more valuable.
This channel has really grown on me! Thanks for a great story! Subscribing to this channel and the Ratarossa!
Loved the video series! One of those projects of passion for a vehicle most won't ever come across
Can’t wait to see the finished version! Love your passion!
It won’t let me see video says Picture in Picture?!
Scott is my backyard tinkering HERO✊🤙 And he sure has the looks… kinda Sonny Crockett… There must be some Miami Vice glory involved in this BBi saga…LOVE IT!!!….. oh, and the former owner of the BBi was HRH Prince Al-Waleed Bin Talal….
Prince? of neglect...
@@jenniferwhitewolf3784 … not the Prince neglected the car but the guy who bought it from the Prince, but hey, this obvious neglect opens a wonderful opportunity for Ratarossa and his RUclips community…
I watch the Rattarossa channel all the time. I remember when he first checked this car out. It was sitting in someone's driveway. He's starting to put it back together now. Looks like new.
Nice! A VIN Wiki video that actually shows the car they’re talking about :-) thanks for the videos, cheers!
Wow what a terrific find. Incredible car. One my all time favorite Ferraris. Love seeing it come back to life that way.
Great to hear a short version of the story!
He thinks he said wow too many times, the first time it was shown cleaned up, I said wow too
Good God such a beautiful car. How can you neglect something like that? It's motivating even to see how Rata is restoring it. Good luck with everything!
Hi Ed, I really like your car that’s in the next car trek series. My favourite of the three.
What is it?
@@these_go_to_11 watch DDE’s new video.
Nice to see all the big American car guys supporting Ratarossa!
Love this
I'm not sure if the vinwiki team is interested in this but there's tons of rare cars abandoned in Saudi Arabia as far as i know of there's a rare first gen dodge viper veleno RT10 built by rinspeed abandoned and i know the owner and also there's tons of old abandoned Soviet cars that we're supposed to be sold in Saudi Arabia And there's many more rare cars here if anyone wants to do some car hunting here is the perfect place
Technically don't the banks own most of those cars, as they're ditched from unpaid HP loans by people that fled the country?
I know people have looked into it and the bureaucratic nightmare to buy them make most not worth it.
@@JimBrodie they aren't owned by banks it's not the same here as in the US if you find an abandoned car either the owner passed away or he doesn't need it you can just issue a title transfer and there's a period of waiting to hear from the owner if that doesn't happen you get the car or they are just outright abandoned at junkyards
As for the Soviet cars they cannot be owned since they don't have registered chassis numbers and were forbidden from being sold by a royal decree since the relationship were cut between the Soviet Union and Saudi Arabia
@@JimBrodie You’re confusing Saudi Arabia with UAE, where western expats finance cars which they can’t really afford then fly home when shit hits the fan. Most of these abandoned cars in Saudi are owned by locals.. mostly people losing interest and the cars go unused and untouched.
Scott's is the best of all car channels
The side profile used in the thumbnail looked like a Lancia Stratos (I know the Stratos was built with Ferrari parts but I didn't expect the side profile to be *that* identical 😂)
I know this entire story and have watched all the videos and it still gives me chills! So happy Scott got this car. It will be epic for sure.
Once upon a time, I was on a plane in either Gatwick or Heathrow and I saw waaayyyyy off on the tarmac a White Boxer. It's the only white one I've ever seen. It was up on a rather high (maybe 6') platform. I wonder if that was the same one. It was bizaar, it was all alone, it wasn't near freight nor near where ~things were stored. It twere so pretty!
The Boxer is one of my all time favorite Ferraris. That and the inexpensive damn Dino. Every single car I've EVER liked (well, maybe not the X90) has gone astronomical in price.
Damn. I despise being poor. Damn it damn it *_DAMN IT!_*
I feel your pain dude. My dream muscle car I bought when I was younger but couldn't drive cause of insurance costs has now gone up alot more then it was. Probably gonna sell it without ever getting to daily drive it like I wanted, well in nice weather at least.
Only consultation. Because insurance goes by Vin and original make. I'm likely gonna be able to get away with a skyline r34 gt non turbo 4 door car converted literally into a gtr spec car.
@@bmxriderforlife1234 Good luck to ya my dude!
Well, if it was at a bazaar, then that means it was for sale so probably not that same car.
Bits stolen after it goes into a Police compound, what a surprise!!. Odds on there are a few Ferrari fans in plod who took the chance to bag a souvenir!
"Mine is the 1 of 1 Ferrari 512 BBi RHD.... IN WHITE", when you get to that level of detail to claim 1 of 1, you got a corvette owner soul.
That thing, once finished, has to go to Pebble Beach and participate in the Concours d’Elégance! This one could get far more than 300k for sure!
I had a bunch of parts from a car stolen while it was in a Police compound too, it was the people who ran the police compound in my case, they used to take anything not screwed down.
Sits in a driveway for a decade plus and no one touches it. Sits in a police lot for 6 months and parts disappear.
Sounds about right.
Watching the cleanup of this car was so satisfying
Great story, car looks great in white.
I love the fact that the previous owner came to his senses, the stories of these people letting significant cars sit and rot away infuriates me.
And before I get all of the " it's their car and they can do what they want" comments, I agree it's true, but that doesn't make it ok.
Ratrossa is the shezit.. Awesome you got him to vinwiki to tell a tale. Thanks Ed.
Ed you need to get Larry on the channel
I’m sure he has some great stories
I have been following this build (like several hundred thousand others) since the first viewing at the old house. It’s an absolutely magnificent car. Never seen one before here in the US, yet always looking when I come across an older Ferrari.
If I recall correctly, it was never offered in the US due to the problems with making it comply with DOT requirements.
I believe at the time it was the fastest production car in the world, while the Countach was the fastest production car available in the US.
So why didn't they charge the chief of police with the theft?
We have investigated ourselves and found ourselves innocent of all charges.
Ratarossa channel is truly a great way of making time disappear. This project is special and is totally work watching all of.. there’s more to the story!
Best thing to listen to while working
Really just one of the very coolest cars ever. I believe one of this model style, bbi was owned and driven by Sammy Hagar while inspired to write “can’t drive 55”
He is a great channel and his restoration is epic
I’d watched the beginning of the disassembly and I wondered if they could ever get it all back together.
It’s a lovely car and a monster project, but if it is a 98 point car when it’s done, how can you ever feel comfortable driving it anywhere near the limit?
Too fine a restoration could change it from a road going car to a garage queen . . .
will the 2007 612 increase in value?
Is there a link to see it being cleaned?
Of course parts going missing once it’s in police custody.
Good morning Ed!!! 🙂
Morning!
I remember watching that cleaning video 1-2 years ago it was great
Excellent example on what I have been thinking for a while.. rich arabs/muslims should not be allowed to buy cars like these, because with too much money, they actually do not appreciate anything.. let alone cars. You, then again, are a restorer.. ty for that. And for the videos^^
Lol I saw a cool vid on the forerunner of the Mosler and thought I’d hit auto tempest up for any nationwide listings of a Mosler but alas I was unable to find the unicorn today. Lol I am pretty sure I couldn’t afford one but apparently they don’t trade hands very frequently either. 🙄😬not sure why lol!
Imagine when that day comes you start it and get to take it for a rip.
It will all be worth it.
This truly was hard work, but a labor of love❤
Top work Mate!!
Keep us updated
absolute legend saving this wonderful car. 512s have really grown on me recently. its a shame there are so few of them.
He said "I am a sucker for neglected Ferraris" to me this translated as "I hate having money"
One of the best vids upto date.... 🤘🤘🤘
Great story's here!
I like it how you don't put the guys channel in the description
As a kid I hated those cars. They just seemed like such a letdown after the 308. But looking back at 51 I have a much better appreciation for them.
Jim at WhiteDetails is the best detailer in the world and hes right here in Cambridge. He has cars flown in from all over the world just to be detailed by him. He would have been your man.
The guy couldn’t just roll it into a garage?! My god man. To let it get to that state is silly. Tarp it at least. Jeez
Tarping it,was what i was thinking too.. Why let it rot like that if he had no intension of selling it to begin with?
@@tunes4life some people just like to watch the world burn I guess. If I had to guess it was an extremely wealthy guy who may have had plans for it but life got in the way. But either way, if you can afford a Ferrari you can afford a garage to put it in or at least a $2000 custom tarp. Glad he let the car go and it can be returned to its former glory. A work of art like that deserved it
The ultimate rear engine Ferrari.
Parts missing while in the “police” compound? Really! What a wonderful country.
Love the shout out to Larry. Xo
Nothing wrong with a decent profit with all the work saving the car👍
I’ve never even heard of that model of Ferrari?! Super cool stuff man👍🏻 also I would love to see it hit barret Jackson or such for its final sale!
I'd much rather see him keep it and drive it than some collector buying it to have it rot in a warehouse.
car goes into police possession for 'protection' and is returned in worse condition? That's the gubmint for ya!
I feel like theft is really bad in the UK, I hear about it alot. Pretty sad.
Love that motor good buy keep it rebuild the motor one of one with a one of motor
It’s always sad seeing a beautiful car that the majority of us would love to own,get treated like that and left to just rot away.I understand that life can get in the way of things like cars when you have a career and a family to take care of,but that still doesn’t mean someone can’t do the minimum to keep a car in somewhat good condition. It’s not that hard and barely takes any time to put a weatherproof car cover over it if you don’t have a garage to put it in,and check the fluids in it and start the car up once or twice a month and let it run for a little bit and take it out once in a while for a little drive. If someone still doesn’t have the time to do those simple things I just mentioned, they should at least sell it to someone that does have the time to properly take care of it and give it the attention it deserves
You obviously love this car! Good luck!
Is this is re-upload?
Its "Beautiful Work of Art" and "Not a Bad Find Indeed".
I bought a Pontiac Fiero that used to be owned by the prince of Bahrain. Not quite as cool 🤣
Ratarossa is one of the coolest dudes he should be on the new show CarTrek Europe.... I know I know but there should be.
Don't forget the 25K for Ferrari Classiche to tell you it's really a Ferrari 😂😂😂 Looking brilliant ~> after the Koenig Specials, one of my favorite Ferraris + not in Retail Red 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Answer to the thumbnail question: Someone with enough money that it doesnt matter
The real question is can I detail it pretty please? I'd do it for the cost of materials and travel expenses and it will be A1
Great video 💙
ED! There is no link to Auto Tempest! 😁👍✌
I wonder how they remember how to it all back together
good luck. your doing great so far !
OMG why would you clean it? I'd get the engine up to speed clean the windows and interior.
Still waiting for VinWiki in Uk though 😂
Why would the guy not want to sell it he obviously didnt care about it or take care of it
Was it possible your original video caused the car to get moved.
striping the paint seems extreme
I'm not convinced about this "one of one" talk when it's just the colour...
Smack dab in the middle of costs that you conclude your selling price to :D
" more dollars then sense " To the extreme!
When a car is this neglected, does mileage even matter at that point?!
This is my second comment - first was deleted! Ratarossa deserves a link in the description!
whistling diesel could do a video with it fix it right up
If you want shit stolen and completely dissappear, give it into police custody... not only are they unaware of its value, they dont care and have the correct amounts of red tape to cover it up.
