  • It's a Panther! It panths. The 1/72 scale Panther from Vespid Models is a pretty great kit. Sure, it's fiddly and there's some very small bits of photo etch that need to be bent into shape... and if you don't like photo etch you might get bent out of shape... but in the end, I feel like it's worth it to have such a cool little Panther.
    what's not to like?!

Vespid is really good at what they do. Especially how generous they are with the options for their kits

I love Herbaderps videos because the narration is very engaging. Top notch info-tainment!

The small plates you mention at about 24:35 are "Lost Erkennungstafeln", or "poison gas detector panels". The short edge should be attached to the edge of the turret; the larger end protruding over the edge, and angled upwards so that the commander could see any colour change from his cupola.
The small V-shaped piece of etch you attached to the front of the cupola is the commander's coarse gunsight, for getting the main gun roughly on target quickly.

However, he mounted the visor too low.

That little wheel is a return roller. Not even the tank god (the chieftain) knows exactly what it’s supposed to do. He theorised it stops the tracks folding in on themselves in reverses. So I guess your tank can’t reverse. But who needs to reverse anyway?

Wow great job, can’t wait to see you paint it.

Yeah the final drives are on the wrong side but otherwise a good solution to the mistake. The little wheel is the track feed return roller which assisted the track from fouling during cross country manoeuvres and reverse. Very well engineered kit from the looks of things.

Extremely difficult to watch someone build a model kit without apparently using the instructions other than as a rough guide lol!

those numbers are bit too precise in my opinion most of the tanks were just painted with dark yellow or dunkelgelb and crews camouflage painted themselves thus those numbers are too precise and the fact that because of combat the paint on the numbers would be a bit chipped id reccomend just handpainting it, trust me it looks very much natural

For me photo etch is a curse and a bugger to use . More annoying is that many of the parts could be in plastic but then the more anal and fixated modellers will claim they,re not as accurate . Personally l,d sacrifice the accuracy just to avoid the frustration of using the bloody awful stuff . This kit l will avoid which is a shame as the Panthers is my favourite tank .

The side shields were 5mm thick and the battle damage you did is like if they were some cheep sheet metal.
Otherwise I kinda like your build
