Do not mistake Tim's bowing as a gesture of respect.
He is more than likely being sarcastic, since he knows he can kill everyone within a two mile radius.
Tim Roth absolutely killed in this movie. The whole cast was really good in this movie. This was one of those rare movies where everybody in it was really good.
Everyone in this movie was perfect. The main trio was the best. Liam Neeson with his unbending honor and resolve, Tim Roth with his crooked false smiles and foppishness, and John Hurt with his upper class sneer and pride and mannerisms.
Tim Roth is one of the finest British actors of his generation. I've never seen him fail. Ever since I saw him as a teenaged skinhead in "Made in Britain" I knew I was watching something very special.
Archibald only acts like a 'fop' in the presence of the Marquis of Montrose, but outside his presence, Cunningham walks with a total man swagger.
So it's like he's the Marquis's court jester as well?
@@sinogarcon more like his prized pit bull with a sword.
No shit?
Tf is a fop?
Fop means the way he acts like a sissy, effeminate, camp etc prancing and preening like a dandy. Read more and expand your vocabulary and you won't need to ask such silly questions.
The late John hurt will always be remembered as one of Britain’s greatest actors. A absolutely legend.
Who is this carrion (ie) dead vermin you keep ? Great statement from the duke of argyll concerning Archibald. Another statement by the duke was? Well Mr Cunningham what’s these principle sins you stress your mother with? Vice, drink, or are you a bugger of boy’s? Archies response. It’s been years since I buggered a boy & in my own defense I thought him a girl at the moment of entry. Duke of argyll, what say you Guthrie ? Archie can’t tell ass from quim. Guthrie, I hear most English men have the same difficulty. Absolutely class.
Absolutely 💯🙌
One of the best performances I've seen in a movie. I thought he really was 18th century English Gentry who time traveled to do this movie.
Fun fact: Archibald is not English, despite all his mannerisms. He is Scottish, despite his disdain for claymores.
The family name gives him away... Cunningham!!!
I’m still furious after all these years that Tim Roth didn’t win 🥇 Best Supporting Actor. To me, he’s one of the greatest actors ever!!!! 🥰💕🌹
Started reading your comment and I thought you were furious he didn't win the duel with McGregor.😃
Yeah. Oscar. He totally deserved it.
Great movie, Archibald was a brilliant character played masterfully
Perfect fop. He nails it. Fops were creatures of the court and were used as applied shock collars for whomever was their patron .
You can see his contempt as soon as he closes the door.
Fops are the olden day equivalent of today's rappers.
Fancy clothes, jewellery, weird flamboyant speech, and deadly if crossed.
That shaking off of disgust after he closes the door makes the scene for me.
Hurt-Roth-Cox is the best villain supergroup of all time
Ginger Baker on drums.
If anyone ever asks you 'what is villainy?' point them to this performance.
The mocking laughter of Montrose is priceless, ... "and to where might I ask?"
This movie is a masterpiece.
I love how this movie is basically John Hurt getting pissed off because he can't keep everybody under control
Lol. He's so delightfully wicked. His mannerisms are charming only to conceal his perfidious soul.
His mannerisms scream he gay af.
'John Hurt' -' know your place sir.' Tim Roth and John Hurt in the same clip. A lesson in itself.
And Brian Cox! What a trio!
One of the best villains ever, I'm being serious, insanely evil and unhinged and calculated a deadly villain who would be a match for many well known villains today
great movie...when Hollywood still made actual movies, and not dumb stuff to watch where all the characters shoot laser beams out of their eyes
Archinbald in the presence of Lord Montrose is unctuous in the extreme, a sychophant, eager to climb his way up through patronage.
One of those rare movies where the bad guy causes so much havoc that killing him once is still a major loss.
Tim Roth is amazing but so is John Hurt - he must have been the Marquis of Montrose in another life.
Totally agree I love John hurts scenes. He plays the part so masterfully
The acting in this film is so solid. Of course having excellent dialogue helps.
@@PantomimeHorse You are so right - this is one of my favourite films and I remember how struck I was when I realised how beautiful the script is. (English is not my first language, so I didn't really understand this when watching it as a teenager). :P
One of the 10 best movie vilains!! Tim Roth is a fenomeno!!
or phenomenal even
Roth is amazing in this
Tim Roth is the best. If I were walking the streets and see him, I would cross to avoid meeting him. He is evil. He is perfect.
He is a hypocrite. For someone who claims to be such an advocate for gun control, he uses a gun quite a bit in his movies.
He moves like a gay over-the-top, extra-flamboyant version of Jack Sparrow lol
Bumble Douche one reason it is sooo enjoyable to watch dear.
Historically men liked to dress and act like peacocks. It was nothing to do with gayness. Homosexuality was punishable by death in those times.
Bumble Douche, Except he is a genuine badass & killer
They are some very ugly drag queens.
@@heliotropezzz333 Many famous people in the 18th century were said to be gay. Frederick the Great was said to be.
i just love Tim Roth tutorials.
RIP John Hurt
Archie is totally confident in his manhood that he can kick anybody's ass in a swordfight.
Roth did an excellent job playing the heel in this movie
Whenever a dom guy mistakes me for a humble loyal servant I copy paste him this to save us both a lot of trouble. It makes in no uncertain terms clear the kind of a servant I am, if I am one at all.
'Kind of like having a mad cat purring at you when it's really growling.
What an actor he is! 👏👏👏
He knows he better bow. Montrose can ruin any mans life at a whim who is not the equal of his station.
Exactly. I think far too many people don't get the reality that in the Scotland of that time (or all of Europe for that matter), social connections pretty much determined your economic and other prospects, period (unless you wanted to emigrate to the New World). Archibald is a bastard, albeit one whose mother was a high-ranking noble woman (Montrose's sister, if I recall correctly), but he is a bastard nevertheless. He has no money of his own, no title and can never be willingly accepted into the ranks of the people who run the country without the patronage of a well-placed high-ranking noble like Montrose. Montrose is reminding him of that simple but unpleasant truth.
@@wayneparker9331 It is like modern days aswell in a way, since connections are way more important than education (CV) in most cases. :P Sad but true
@@wayneparker9331I thought it was implied in the film that Archibald was Montrose's bastard. Was his mother really Montrose's sister?
Dave66, Montrose knows life is short. He has no time for frivilties. Do him right, he will do you right. This was a great time to be rich.
@@davidvance6367 I thought one of Argyll's lines to Montrose was very telling. Something like. 'It isn't until you are in my presence that I recall how much you hate me, Montrose'. I was never sure why Montrose hated Argyll - just competitors for land and resources perhaps? Montrose tried to get Argyll fitted up as a Jacobite when there was no evidence that he was one.
Glad you like 'em. Who knew he would make such a great professor?
Does Elton John know that Archibald raided his wardrobe?
You'll get that answer Mr. Henry next saturday.
Obviously the guy is the villain but the acting performance is excellent
Another of the Marquise's likely lads.
This has got to be mr hurts greatest performance. Tim Roth plays a great baddie.
"Garcon! Coffee!"
He was no fop in this one
Archibald- "Please be calm! Might I request, that every person within this patronage, stay exactly where they sit or stand, whilst myself and my fair maid, extract whatever wealth you may carry upon you."
"Any of you ******* pricks mooove! And i'll execute every mutha******* last one of ya!"
Archie- "A touch crude, but well put, my fairest Honey Bunny."
I feel guilty for enjoying his character so much. It's like I can't look away yet hate him SO much. Fine line between love and hate. I may even kinda love Archie....oh is that not a worse sin than any other?!
Love is but a dung hill Troy.....
Love is never a sin!
1:25 How I leave every interview or meeting
That's the reason for polite speech.
He is cool!
Well, not everyone in a 2 mile radius...
Because McGregor is in that same building
Wow, now that was deep.
Montrose is training the black kid beside him to be the next archie.
Arr!! English etiquette you can't beat it..
Nowadays, we would probably say:"Why,you smarmy...":)
The last Scot to call HIM a pansy ended up kebab meat.
I love Tim Roth, but this is a John Hurt Tutorial😊
Who is the black kid next to the marquess?
It was customary for lords at the time to have a slave escort..like the young boy
Reported also that these boys were dressed up to parade and at times used as sex toys. The wickedness of the old days
@@moegamatgamieldien110 thats the montroses next protege. Hes creating a black archie who will head out into the colonies and help expand the empire.
A slaveboy attendant-runner, in the Moorosh clothing that was all the exotic rage in Europe at the time. Too young to knock up the female help or engage in intrigues. Possibly would have bent sent out to the colonies as a house trustee slave.
Lol “he knows he can kill everyone in a two mile radios”😂
Can barely hear it....
You'll find a volume control on your device somewhere. You can use that to make it easier to hear.
Everyone but Rob
Archibald moves like a girl.
Famous last words.
Sorry, we know you preferred boys, Abe.
@@imcallingjapan2178 damn you
@@AbrahamLincoln4 Well, you are dead, which gives you an advantage. You can go and haunt him.
كم احب هذه اللكنة الانجليزية 😁
more than great :)
He really gayed that role up.
Don't forget it's an act, Archibald was robbing travelers on his way to meet the MArquis.
Don't mistake that style of social mannerisms for gayness. It's a bit OTT even for the times, but homosexuality was punishable by death in those times.
@@heliotropezzz333 I'm glad to read someone else gets that point. Being foppish in manner during this period did not mean someone was homosexual. In fact, the whole homosexual identity thing is a modern construct. 18th century men who were sexually attracted to other men also were usually husbands and fathers.
@@wayneparker9331 I agree with that, and as far as I'm aware it was homosexual sex acts (presumably with evidence for those) that were punishable by death, not any forms of social behaviour.
Tim made this movie extra awesome! Can you explain how he can kill anyone within a few miles? Do you mean that there’s no highlanders around?
Rob Roy was in the room
Well almost everyone
Your comment that he can kill everyone in a 2 mile radius is incorrect in one of the most important ways: What he can do is kill ANYone in a two mile radius. Paired skill to skill one on one he is a match for any of them, but he is no match for all of them or even any 10 at once. This is the weakness of the strong man... in relying upon his strength he forgets that society is bigger and stronger than he can ever be, and even he must sleep. This is why Montrose has all the power in his relationship with Archibald, and Archie has none despite being quite personally formidable.
This video is wrong. Yes, of course he could kill the Marquis, but he would be put to the sword immediately. To attack the man would be utter suicide. No, he was very much kept on a short leash. The Marquis was the one with real power and Archibald was an attack dog.
I love Tim Roth but I hate archibald so much
Gangsta ??
No volume
He's not sarcastic, he's being angry as fuck
00:48
Macgregor was standing near him and he failed to kill him, maybe a 2 meter radius
Only because he lost his concentration at the last moment
(and also because it was scripted that way).
Archie almost always made sure
to fight on his terms which just out of distance than his larger, stronger opponents
and his fatal mistake at the last moment was getting within arm's reach of MacGregor.
Of course, why Archie did think to just drop the blade and back away I'll never know.
Never lose your concentration in a fight or your dead.
Archie was still very very dangerous.
Film świetny . Ale ten wkurwiający śmieszny, angielski akcent.
lousy volume. i'm out
