Good to see the level of reality/aliveness. Nice balance of safety and reality. Thank you, Dog Brothers, for providing the forum for "discussion" between martial practitioners.
anyone who will see this will say "that`s just brutal" but an escrimador would ask "then why learn to fight if you don`t want to use what you learned?". one of the founding philosophy of F.M.A "fight to prove you can". saludo to the Dog Bros.
Interesting, in Spanish Juego Todo means something like all in. Must be an expression that the Spanish bought there during they're rule at the Philippines.
The truth is Kali training prepares you ultimately for a real-life scenario such as this. Today's "purists" might frown on this as an adulteration of their style. However, us Filipinos still living in the Philippines know that in defense of family and loved ones, the aggression and lethality of this art... nay... this culture is real. Dog Brothers might seem like a bunch of foreigners taking our pride and joy martial art into the realm of psycho violent rage. But if it is what it takes to preserve life and land, we Filipinos go there in an instant. Unlike in Norse or Germanic cultfures where there is a warrioir class and a farmer class in one society, in the Philippines, the farmer class is the warrior class. We just have a switch to turn it on or off. To the Dog Brothers, kudos for liking the art and being passionate about it. But do not lose sight that Kali is a fighting style that takes the offense or defense to the enemy with lethal repercussions because of love for property, family, and country. Make sure that the message put accross is not about inflicting harm with the skills you possess.... that then would be irresponsible and disrespectful.
Bruh, Germanic cultures were the same. This kind of thing is frowned upon for violence, people run away from me when I use real swords instead of arnis bastons.
I love this .Probably the 90th time I've watched this video (and the doco and others....) Wish it was in Australia . I wonder if anyone ever went into a match bare handed against a weapon ? I'd try against a stick or one of those 'taserknives'"
Why with chains? To see how they work in real life. They're not rigid objects, they don't behave the same as a stick or knife. Good to practice with them and learn about them.
That is possibly the dumbest comment i've seen in awhile. They wouldn't kill each other, just like these guys won't. Its against rules, federal laws, against many morals that alot of people have. And plus hard hits by kicks give way heavier impacts than these sticks. Sure these sting, and can cut, but they cant break knees, ribs, etc. It wasn't the fact that they have sticks that would make me want to watch it. I've seen my fair share of fights and these just seem more entertaining than UFC fights.
umm id rather get punched or kick then get hit with a good solid stick full force any day so i think your wrong there sticks can break bones way easier then just reg melee hits with fist and kicks
This is brilliant. I just reckon the knife bits oughta be told to end real fast, considering that if both opponents tag each other, that's just two dead men.
Really good fighting. this is imho the only way to test your skills under pressure in a trainings situation. Much respect, if theres a gathering nearby holland i would love to try my skills
Have you trained in FMA? Some of the very first strikes taught in most FMA are forehand and backhand strikes. They might be numbered or called whatever but they are essentially that. These basic strikes also happen to be very effective when your heart rate is close to or at its maximum and the SNS injects adrenaline into your system like a garden hose. Much of the weight dist and blocks you speak of are also there. It helps to watch it in slow mo with commentary. Real combat is rarely perfect.
The exploration of limits is a heroic endeavor and i agree with many training methods of the dog brothers. However after watching this video i would like to ask:, what happens to those that got injured ?? Not everything can be replaced just like a stick. One can suffer many years to come for a moment of entertainment. There is no glory in chronic pain and illness. Just suffering.
I like this because it is a lot like when the UFC first came out and you saw all the guys who thought they could fight learn that they couldn’t. If people keep doing this, you will eventually start to see some elite level men and women who can pull off stuff that is truly incredible. I said keep going and see what happens. Theoretical martial arts are bullshit. This is how you find out what really works
By the way, in the old ages duels were stopped by seconds after blood drawn because it was enough and "satisfaction" of honour...such tournaments might kill if you do not stop a fight on time.
Great fights! Those of you posting who think these fighters are untrained, you have NO idea what you are talking about. These are all super technical fights with trained fighters. Sorry they don't have Nascar MMA trunks and shaved chests, but if you do a little research you will realize that the Dog Brothers have been running these fights for years and have a history that goes back to the late 80s. Google "dog brothers ufc letter" for a little history.
after all the hubud..palisut...tapping drills angles 1-12 are proficiently done in a cooperative environment this is where it is tested...and while it may not be pretty or as smoothly done under stressfull encounters like these this is what your training boils down to....some label this as nonsense only because they refuse to stray out of their comfort zone but even the least skilled of these participants has an edge over the arm chair FMA practitioner who works on martial theory....my hat goes off to all of these warriors...pugay.
It's striking (get it?) that so many combatants are shooting for the legs and going for the take down when dealing with an opponent armed with a knife. I'm no uber-ninja-commando or anything but it seems to me that going to the ground is a less optimal choice versus stand-up fighting in both competitive combat and street defense. I mean, did you see all those back-stabs by the people who were taken down? They're on the ground, but the grappler is now bleeding out from a kidney stab. Still, no disrespect to these truly impressive fighters. They've got more mettle than me! It is too bad 'Merica cant handle this kind of reality - I'd have loved to see them fight on a respected and acknowledge venue.
I currently train in Modern Arnis, what I'm referring to is how the people in some of these videos swing with their arms fully outstretched like a whip; the strikes look weak, uncontrolled, and slow to me.
I've never done this full contact weapon sparring so I could just be ignorant, but it seems that in most of the videos I watch involving full contact FMA that people appear to just swing their sticks wildly, rather than distribute weight properly, block, etc.
There are a few reasons, in my opinion, why that is. 1 because these fights are extremely tiring and just like a boxer or any athlete, form starts to suffer when exhaustion begins. 2 Because their opponent moves and threatens with potential or actual strikes, techniques need to be altered or adjusted partway through. 3 their sticks are thicker and heavier than a standard arnis stick and they are emphasizing power more. And 4 in actual fights things are rarely perfect. Modern Arnis ...
Good point, but as you said "its a close as you can get with a weapons art". The DB also put what is learned in this aspect of training into a more realistic application for self defence. They understand the limitations of sparring but embrace the lessons learned and the stress inoculation.
Why cannot movie fights be like this??? There a huge differences between fake violence(staged/choreograph fights) and real violence(street/bar fights). This videos proves this! The Dog Brothers DO NOT PLAY AROUND!!!!
Believe it or not, it's called a hobby, and people enjoy doing it regardless of the dangers. You could say the same thing your saying about mountain biking, or skateboarding.
Feel free to come out to a Gathering and show us what real combat is like if you really feel that way. I'm sure some of us would be happy to pay your travel fees.
They're dull. But it hurts like a bitch when getting poked forcefully with a blunt object over a small striking force. The dog brothers offer true weapon fighting without the chance of getting killed. Serious injuries do occur but the brotherhood is about endurance.
local hospital probably offers them frequent user discounts
Good to see the level of reality/aliveness.
Nice balance of safety and reality.

Much respect to the Dog Bros. Many people talk a big game but not too many can walk the path that they do. Keep it up.
The transitions from stick fighting to unarmed fighting are so cool. Really loved the judo takedowns.
so happy to see the dog brothers still kickin' butt after all these years.
This is the old tradition of Eskrimadors in Philippines they call this Juego Todo which was sometimes to the death.
To shreds you say?
Interesting, in Spanish Juego Todo means something like all in. Must be an expression that the Spanish bought there during they're rule at the Philippines.

well spoken...I'm going to share your comment with my training group.
Thank you brother for speaking on our behalf.
it´s clear you don´t know any thing about germanic societies in history
@@Zetrao absolutely right! Thank you brother!
Bruh, Germanic cultures were the same.

Respect to all the fighters. Awesome Video. That's the spirit I like!
What I've learned from this is that in any fight where both participants are armed, they're likely both about to get fucked up.
LONG LIVE The Dog Brothers!!!!!
2:01 Never bring a drum to a knife fight
Purest form of martial art today! It doesn't get anymore raw then this.
"Protect yourself at all times" no one even bothers with that it seems 😂
this is really good. the way to prove which one is stronger
Dog Brothers have been ahead of the game for years. JKD plus Kali plus BJJ equals awesomeness. Keep up the great work, all!

This was filmed at Gokor Chivichyan's, Hayastan MMA Academy, in North Hollywood.
"no one spends the night in the hospital", i never seen anything like this...
Are those knives made of metal? Even if they're not sharp doesn't that still cause serious injury?
I believe they use both plastic and aluminum training knives.
the knives are metal but are blunted off, it still causes an amount of pain to the opponent but hey, thats training for you
just to want to point out my dojo uses rubber knifes which look very real in training, although it is not a kali dojo
Now where do i sign up?

But why with Chains omg

Yeah I wasn't expecting the chains either.
Because THEY HIT LIKE LIFE
If UFC was like this, I'd actually watch it.
true

this is reality on the streets, specifically in our country Philippines way back 2000 to 2005 or much previous years....

are those just normal fencing masks or are they more specific some how?
+IamHueGraves normal fencing masks, really not designed for this sort of abuse.
Blackbird Training Group that's what I thought, but someone said they use them for that reason
It is intended to be protective but not too protective, and the older models of masks were less protective that what most of us use now.
