Cool vid that shows a bit of what went down at the September 2013 UPS Gathering of the Pack. If only MMA matches had a fraction of the intensity, focus, fierceness, and relentless ferocity. Please take note that sportsmanship and brotherhood reigned supreme throughout.
So to practice this martial art i just need to carry around a couple sticks, some hidden knives, a hockey stick, and possibly a hammerless revolver...and then just go apeshit with them
Forgot to mention that Peter A. got away with cross-checking, high sticking, and boarding all in one sequence... but the ref never blew a whistle to stop play or call a single penalty! I'm shocked. (o.o)
The rules were that there were no refs pr judges so he would get away with cross checking and high sticking and boarding in one sequence- it's not a competition in that sense it's a gathering
It's not as simple as you think. They are between friends and they know hitting the limbs is incredibly painful, while hitting the head, especially with a circular move, is almost harmless with the protection, but at the same time has the advantage of showing everyone you would've won the fight if there wasn't protection. It has a good ratio of hurtfulness to efficiency in real life, while hitting the limbs is extremely painful and dangerous everytime but doesn't make you win a fight instantly.
Now da question is... would I or would I not love 2 participate in dis? Will they come 2 LA? Also, 3:41 to 3:45: Some1's played a li'l too much Mortal Kombat! lol

I totally disagree, and feel that you have probably never been in a full contact stick spar without the draped armor that many FMA schools use for sparing. Your body mechanics change quite a bit once you've been whacked by a stick at full speed. The footwork is there, the tactics are there, the attitude is there. That's all that matters.
David Wilson I see. well that was my observation since I've never seen Eskrima fight like that before, I always thought it should be something like this /watch?v=ne7cALRIlBw
Snowflake Those are close quarter drills. They are a training method and not to be relied on in actual fights because no one cooperates with you in a conflict
*Snowflake,* just like a street fight. Don't expect refined movement from Arnis/Kali/Eskrima that's main purpose was to hurt back in the day. This is not a movie. You hit and keep hitting if the situation allows you to.
this is a good reminder to have layers of weapons is you can
Still look forward to watching each Gathering!

The reverse grip knife into spinning backfist was crazy
(6:19)
LMAO that was epic.

Its not hollywood fighting sequence for sure. In real life street fight the first one to overwhelm the other guy wins.

Gokor's mma academy, somewhere in southern cali I think
Funny how all the fancy bull*** goes out the window when people don't cooperate.
They were still doing fancy shit in the video though. The way they fought looked elegant.
the hockey stick is perfect for sweeping opponents feed. perfect staff in my opinion haha
This is what pressure tested kali should look like
filipino martial art on steriods
luv U gurlz & guys ... so generous
Escrima killed that kendo stick guy😂😂😂
Great editing too!
Most of them do not strike the limbs.
It is the nearest target and yet most of the time they kept aiming for the head.

@@namnam2701 With a real blade, a chopped wrist is an instant fight ender.
So, hit the limb.
Thumbs up again!

Now thats entertainment!
Omilord. I really dont see any Eskrima in here, just some people whacking each other with rattan sticks. :(

Snowflake You can improvise and combine methods. Unless you spar yourself, just following drills is pretty much useless in real life.

Shout out to Commando!
Amen to that!
Interesting fights.
Blue training Ruger LCR.
