Do you have an apu? We're you supposed to keep manually starting your truck like every 3 hours breaking up your sleep? I hope not....and then you build air and then have to drain the air from your air tanks. You can never get a full night's sleep in the weather when it's below zero temperatures.

Great video and thank you for all the great advice! I've been driving 3 years and just started as an owner op. I laughed at your comment about calling service truck for everything (since it's "free") because I was definitely "that guy". But the last 2 years of driving driving watching videos like this I now am proud to say I do most of my own work on the truck when it's not something too difficult like an EGR cooler or SCR.
I know they get a lot of hate and you probably may agree with the hate. But if you do have money to spare throw it at getting some good tire socks. They do just as well to get you out of stuck situations like at truck stops with much less effort to take on and back off again (5 minutes a tire). I'll chain up in bad situations or mountains or deep snow but in situations you can't chain like road covered in a very thin sheet of black Ice they work wonders. I've helped pick up many drivers stranded for the night on side of road because the ice caused 0 traction and the road conditions weren't ideal for chains as they would chew up your tires (no snow or padding). The socks are perfect for these situations. Albeit rare they do happen and come in handy for emergencies like that. I don't suggest you replace a good set of chains with them but they do serve a purpose in winter.

Solid advice driver I agree with everything you said. I’m from Illinois and it can get pretty cold here too. Couple things i would emphasize is make sure you know what fuel your buying, bio is terrible under 10 degrees. Also air system maintenance is huge. When it’s cold any amount of moisture will give you problems. One other thing i do is carry a bag of kitty litter or oil dry, it can really help you get out of a slippery spot when you can’t get traction. Stay safe and drive on brother! Oh and keep the cb on 19!

Thanks man very informative,, I am stuck here in South Dakota with i90 west closed, blizzard conditions and unreal situation. Fortunately for me I am from Florida but I got my 16 Pete 579 ready for this trip,
My question is, is it better to leave my engine idling or just turn it of windchill here make temp around 5. I have full tank of fuel with anti gel in the tank. Also fueled in ND
