Awesome review, I’m getting ready to spray my 1966 El Camino myself, I haven’t painted a car in over 30 years and bing watching you, Brian, and Triggerman in preparation. I have the A610, a sub $250 Iwata for primer, and now looking at this gun. Thanks Kandy Man.
What’s ur thoughts on th Sagola 3300 GTO as a beginner ?this Porphis 717 VS is definitely on my on my list for clear coats but kinda was looking at a all around gun An th Sagola 3300 really has a lot of features I would only used it for base coats not my primers 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Great review Kandy Man, those Porphis guns are really good and the build quality is up there with all the leading manufactures, I've had three Porphis guns on loan the PRD625 , PRD715 and a side cup gun the WP9, the 625 and 715 sprays the basecoat really nice and are superb for a clear gun but I wasn't so keen on the WP9. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Kandy Man and please keep us updated on how they hold up👌🙏👍John UK
I use high end clears. But they are cheaper than the ones from PPG....I dont need a guarantee because I do it right and it will last. There are cheaper brands that are super high solids....Many use BASF Resins which IMO are the best. I prefer them over PPG resins. Brands Like Chameleon, Silco and Kapci are super high solids over 50% which is top of the line. They use premium BASF resins. Great for the DIY guy who wants premium clear for less money.
I purchased a $100.00 spray gun from Amazon that had that same style tip in it and it did an awesome job spraying clear as well, Atomized the clear really well and laid it out super smooth. It supposedly was a De Vilbiss knock off.
I dont have the money to buy a ws gun so I cant compare.....But That porphis sprayed a bout the best I have ever used. IMO better than my Tekna prolite with the TE20 air cap and 1.3 or 1.4 tip. easier to spray with. Less Fog so in a non spray booth environment it is key. I noticed you did not trigger off the edges so the fog was a bit higher on your video. But still a excellent spray job. IMO I have not been able to beat porphis. It will be my primary clear gun. No need for anything better because I can easily get a perfect finish with it.
also i thought 715 1.3 or 1.4mm is for Clear coat spray gun LVMP but 7171 is for base coat only?? which i know both can do base & clear but for specific i think purpose 715 & 717 is for clear & base, i hopping this is correct ???
Hi Kandy Man, I just received my Porphis 715 two days ago. China to Colorado shipping took 7 days! Incredible. Once the spray gun hit the US it went by USPS. Porphis provided a tracking number and I watched the entire trek. They used an internal shipper in and out from China but all legit. Now to the Spray Gun. I was not asked if I wanted my name stenciled to the side of the gun. I think that service is only provided for professional folks. I could be wrong on that. This spray gun comes in the PRD-715, 716, and 717 models. They all use the same body. The 715-MP, 716-HVLP and the 717-VS tips/nozzle is what makes them different. If one purchases the PRD-715 it comes with the 1.3 MP nozzle. BUT one can purchase the PRD 717-VS nozzle separately for $119.41. The PRD-715 currently sells for $259.59 add the VS Needle, Split Nozzle and Air cap kit of PRD-717. (Suit for all guns of PRD-71 Series.) for $119.41 for a total of $379.00 + Shipping of around $25. I'm not sure being a DIY'er I need the VS tip. But it sure is nice to know it's available for the better painters out there. Thanks for doing this video!!!!
It took 14 days to GUAM, weird because i'm closer to China. I got the cheap PHS 135 because i'm just DIYer. Did yours come with a hand written greeting card? Nice of them to do that.
I ended up buying a Porphis PRD-715 1.3MM for clear because I needed something faster than my DV1-C for doing complete respray work. I love my three DV1 guns but find myself using the Porphis prd-715 for clear constantly. It really is that good. Mine is not the 717 with v shape cap. I always spray high solids and prefer the 1.2mm with my DV1-C because it seems to break up the high solids better but I am amazed how fine this $250 Porphis prd-715 1.3mm atomizes my sikkens high solids clear
@kandyman5315 for $250 I really dont know if there is a gun out there that atomizes that fine and is able to actually maintain that atomization throughout the process. It really reminds me of a DV1-C fine atomization only with twice the matetial output. Only con i can give it is its a little loud. The air really hums going through
the best 3 body/paint on yt period kandy man - paint khoas design - fabricator/ body luxury car repair - collision/ body kandy definitely the man for paint👌
Right on the money as usual. Thank you for the review. Had those two for a bit now, and I have both the MP 1.3. 1.4 sets for the 715 and the VS 1.3, 1.4 sets for the 717. Totally different characters on those two guns, but I like them both. I just wonder how long they will last, but no issues so far. And I know you can get parts for them.
What really surprised me on the 717 was that 20-22 psi is actually atomizing the DCU2002 great and giving me an even fan. I haven’t sprayed this clear at that low of a pressure on any of my other guns.
I love your videos, your the best. I may just buy one of these. What size tip/needle did the bronze one have and do you think it would work for basecoat too? Wait, we need another video!
