    I had them install this adapter the day I purchased the bike !! It’s a great feature I charge my phone all the time

      Mr. Benson Elvis, thanks for the comment. My dealer was unaware of this and didn't offer it. When I had it in for service I asked them a few months back if they were aware of the power source at the dash and they replied that they did not know of it....so a bit strange really that it's there, there seems to be a relief in the panel to use as a cutting guide, but Aprilia seems uncommitted here in the US to acknowledge it. I am very glad to hear you have been using it as that is proof that there are no effects from using it altogether. Thanks again and ride safe.

    The rubber grommet is mounted nearly flush. It is not supposed to stick out like this. Reverse that and great job!

    My 2017 Aprilia RSV4 RF came with a USB socket as stock. It’s very odd to why they didn’t include this on the Tuono. You would’ve thought that the more road orientated naked version would be in need of one more than the track biased bike. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos Garey. Keep em coming buddy! Dai, from the 🇬🇧

    • @GareyCooperdude

      Okay thanks Chef Dai! Another UK Aprilia dude to share the experience with! Yes, the whole thing of this power take off is a bit strange. My dealer professed not to know about it when I asked a while back. I discovered it more or less by accident when replacing the OEM windshield. Or at least found it where rumors had said it was located, a nice surprise actually. Then when ordering the pieces (not counting the screws and the spare sacrificial instrument panel) the part numbers are NOT part of the OEM parts manual on our larger supplier over here in the USA. They are listed as Piaggio pieces......so it seems that there is no real drive to install them on the Tuono's in the USA. I can't say if the same is true of the RSV versions here, but that's my experience with a USA based Tuono. Thanks for the comment and ride safe!

      Garey Cooper thanks for the reply. It’s always a pleasure and much appreciated when creators respond to subscribers comments.
      I cannot imagine why the same bikes sold in Europe and North America wouldn’t share the same attributes such as electrical outlets.
      I guess we share the same stringent laws when it comes to emissions though ie California and Europe.
      Ride safe brother, thank you for uploading such quality videos for our viewing pleasure. I wished I lived in California too, it literally rains here in the uk .......everyday!!!!

    just ordered these parts to do on my 2018 tuono here in the UK. Im gonna sit the grommet deeper so it sits flush. Thanks for video. And then get a slightly shorter iphone cable.

      Hey, glad to help sir! Yes, some like the grommet deeper and more flush...I'd like to see a photo when you're done please. Good luck with the install, it's really easy. The only stress is cutting up the instrument panel, and remember there is a ring/grommet around the connector so you don't have to make the cut too pretty to work.

    As I’m sure you’ve figured out by now the USB socket will have power as long as the key is on. The bike doesn’t have to be running.
    Also, you can push the rubber grommet further into the hole you made for s more flush look. That is how I have mine. Just the part with the cap is sticking out. Great video though and I’m sure this will help people who haven’t done the project yet.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад +1

      metalmalitia23 thanks for the comment. Yes “power on” is key 🔑 on, bike doesn’t have to be actually running. I like the grommet to be a tad bit higher but it could indeed be pushed into almost flush. Good news is that the power supply is there in the first place. What I can’t understand is why Aprilia doesn’t offer this as standard or even acknowledge it here in the USA? Thanks again for commenting.

      Thanks for video Garey, very helpful. I've just installed the dash mounted USB port on my 2018 Tuono. I noticed the rubber grommet can installed two ways. As you've done with most of the grommet on the outside of the dash (sticks out a fair way off the facia) or reversed with most of the grommet inside, behind the facia leaving a near flush install. The body of the grommet installed this way fits directly into the cavity once holding the power connector. Again, many thanks for your video. Regards Peter

    I just want to add a very public thank you to "Get in Lane 54" over there in the good ol' UK. He was very helpful in getting background information to me on this power supply. And is also a Tuono rider so I have a great buddy over there gained through RUclips and the shared experiences of the Tuono...THANKS GET IN LANE 54!

    Great video. Thank you for documenting your mods. I just did the same on my '17 Tuono RF and this video was very helpful. BTW, what phone mount is that?

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад

      Howdy Martin K.....so glad to have been of help sir. The phone mount is by a company called "SP Connect". www.sp-connect.com. I very much like their mount. It is a quarter turn on and off to mount or dismount. The mounting on the bike itself is also quite compact. I suppose the only downside is that you must use their iPhone case as that is what attaches to the handlebar mount. However it doubles as a protector and doesn't add a whole lot of bulk to the phone. At least not more so than a standard protector case would. Good luck and ride safe!

    Hey there Garey - just wanted to say I’ve enjoyed your videos enormously and they have been instrumental in me buying my Tuono! So thanks for that :)... my RR 17 is pretty much the best I’ve owned... super happy with it!
    Have I missed the video where you talk about your new exhaust? Or is that coming.... ? Im very keen to hear your thoughts. Looks like an Akrapovic? Please enlighten us :)...
    Thanks for these two fitting videos, I ordered a European dark smoke OEM screen and have the USB kit ready to go and will do both jobs when I have all the parts, so your videos will be very useful in the future when it comes time to drop screws around the garage and try not to break things... 😂
    One question on the USB fitment, did you follow the partially scribed area on the inside of the facia when you were scribing out the hole for the rubber grommet?
    Many thanks.

      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад

      David, glad to have helped you out sir! Enjoy the Tuono and ride safe, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I do indeed.
      Okay, you've got good eyes.....video on the exhaust is coming!
      On the USB fitment. Yes I did try to follow the scribed area on the inside of the fascia panel. It is a bit of a challenge as the panel has some curves in the area of the lines which makes it difficult to follow. It would have been much easier with a Dremel....but I did more-or-less follow the lines and the grommet covers up a lot of the roughness of my hand cuts and the curvature of the fascia panel itself. So, my suggestion to you would be to try and follow the same lines...good luck with it and let me know if I can help out in any other way.

      Many thanks again Garey. I went ahead fitted the USB socket. I have a dermal, but I found it easier and more precise to shave off little slivers of plastic with a craft knife after I had opened up a decent sized hole and just kept offering up the grommet until I got it to fit nicely. A coating of silicon sealer on the reverse side for good measure and it was job done. Nice job... I’ll have to pull it all apart once I get my dark tint screen... it’s never ending! 🤣

      Looking forward to the exhaust video and in particular your thoughts about it. You spoke about doing it in a previous video and I agreed with it all 100%. I have ruined perfectly good bikes by fitting pipes and power commanders. Fun for exciting for the first few days and then you become a neighbourhood nuisance... 😂

      It is never ending! But, I guess that's part of the fun of these machines...besides just riding them! Glad you got the power take-off in with no major drama. I have used it since and found some shorter charging cables in color that I'll post up.

    Garey, once mor a great modification / video. I've installed the mobile phone support based on your earlier instruction... and I'm really happy with it :-). The USB extension will follow but I've one question: couldn't you re-use the existing "left fascia trim"? Is the one you've ordered different for the original part? Cheers, Marco (from Switzerland ;-).

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад

      Marco Forghieri Thanks Dude! You are correct, I did not have to use a different fascia. I did order a second one for two reasons; 1. In case in destroyed the original in the modification for the mount. 2. In case another owner down the line would want to go back to original condition. Number 1 reason was most important of course! They are identical parts....good luck with the mod, and ride safe!

    I just don't understand why it has to be so damn big and ugly! you can get some of those connectors, and splice into the bikes power source, but using a flush mount USB socket with voltage read-out and QC too for a lot less, and will look a LOT better 😉

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  2 года назад

      It is big, and not the best looking agreed! I could have mounted mine more flush with the fascia......however that is the piece supplied by Piaggio/Aprilia for the "factory" connection.

    You don't need to start the bike for it to charge the phone. Just have to have it turned on.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  Год назад

      Sorry, just getting around to this! You are right about just turning it on, this WILL energize the circuit to charge the phone. However I generally don’t leave my bikes switched on as the batteries on motorcycles are touchy in terms of their overall life. This is why I changed my ‘17 Tuono to a lithium battery by the way.
      By the way, I now have a ‘21 Tuono and it came standard with a lithium battery, and there is an easy to remove panel on the front fascia to get to the phone charger extension!
      Thanks for the comment.

      @@winner1338 Howdy, sorry just getting to see this. I bought mine from AF1 Racing. At AF1racing.com. They are located in Texas, USA. The SKU for them is #AF1-643277.
      This should also be available internationally and they list what I think are the Aprilia/Vespa part numbers as, 1D002753, and 1B001591. They are called, "USB Socket & Grommet."

    Really nice video. I was actually reading about adding one to my Tuono yesterday, and then I see this pop up on your channel. Do you have a link to the dash panel? I can't seem to locate it on AF1. I was also considering cigarette style socket as my GPS requires this type of socket.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад +1

      Hello, and thanks. The replacement panel piece is found by searching on the AF1 web site in the PDF download of the parts manual of the Tuono Factory. Go to AF1 site, then go to "Aprilia Motorcycles" on the left hand panel, then go to the bottom of the page for "2017 Tuono V4 Factory OEM Parts", then you will have the PDF manual. In the manual go to page 29/76. Here you will see the exploded parts list, #5 is part number 2B003490 "Instrument Panel Left Hand Panel". Enter that part number at the top of the page and you will get a price and availability from AF1 which you can add to the shopping cart. This currently shows; "Arrives at our facility in 5-7 days". Showing at $16.95 dollars.
      Or, you can save yourself the trouble and just enter the part into the search and skip looking it up in the PDF catalog. The advantage of the PDF is that it shows you the exploded view which is a handy guide into how all of the pieces fit together.
      Oddly enough the power take-off itself is NOT shown on this page, so far as I can tell. As I say, odd.
      As far as the cigarette lighter configuration goes. I don't believe that Piaggio/Aprilia sell one in this design. You could potentially source one or make one on your own. The complication being that the waterproof grommet is designed specifically for the USB style power socket. So, you wouldn't be able to use the grommet and body that I sourced from AF1. It is entirely possible that you could install the cigarette lighter type outlet and just let it dangle out the bottom of the panel. I think that'd work just fine.
      Hope all this helps and good luck!

      @earthwoolandfire9715 6 лет назад +1

      Thank you, Garey. I was looking in the incorrect page, but have found it. I do have a cigarette lighter socket on my FZ-09, but it is able to be attached without looking odd. I'll have to fiddle with the Tuono and see if that is the route I wish to take. I appreciate the response.

    Do you by chance know if the output is 12Volts , I am wanting to hook up a radar detector

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад +1

      Hmmm, I didn't measure the output from the plug. But the configuration of the factory supplied end is identical to the battery maintainer hook up under the seat. So I THINK it's a direct wire to the battery....I am also assuming that the kit that takes this configuration to a USB port also takes the voltage down to that required for charging iPhones.....don't know any of this for sure so take it with some caution.

  • @Juzmix

    Have you considered using a camera on a tripod on the opposite side of the bike to you.. This would allow you to set your shot up and look over you shoulder per se.

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад

      I think that could be one idea.....the problem is manifold. We have black pieces located in the depth of generally black backgrounds. And the pieces are small and difficult enough to get to without trying to get a camera view in as well. I am wondering if perhaps next time a head mounted unit might be the better go. I am painfully aware that it could be hard for viewers to follow along on some of these.....always room for improvement and thanks for the suggestion!

      A head mount might be just the ticket. Your videos are great. A suggestion for a video (seeing as I'm looking at both bikes as my next model) would be a S1000R V Tuono - Which is best for commuting / stop & go traffic etc. Your views on the pros and cons of each bike.

    Garey it would be interesting if you took your bike to have the suspension set up by professionals

    • @GareyCooperdude
      @GareyCooperdude  6 лет назад

      It sure would and I've been thinking about getting it "set up" to more or less reflect my style and weight. Some of the testing magazines or video magazines will publish their suspension settings that they used on track and road. I'm going to try to find those first.
      I did set my steering damper to two firmer "clicks" and I must say I like that setting better than what it was stock.
