My channel has varying content, much of it related to Motorcycles/Automobiles. However it is also meant to be autobiographical of my life now as a retired person living with family, friends, and hobbies in San Diego, California. It is a personal journal to be true, but I hope that there is some parts that will related to the human experience of a senior citizen here in the earlier stages of the 21st century. Please enjoy these and know that I enjoy making them!
Setting up the Alpinestars TechAir 5 for the first time! 4K
In this VLOG we charge up the TechAir 5, install the app, and try the systems for the first time! It all goes rather well. Additionally we try the TechAir on with full operating and updated software, with the Alpinestars TG-P "TechAir Ready" mesh jacket...what a mouthful! But this is entire "ecosystem" designed to work together by Alpinestars.
Now, what you do with the TechAir when first received;
#1, charge overnight, all 3 LED's illuminated when fully charged.
#2, load the TechAir app onto your smart phone.
#3, update the jacket software/firmware via the app, this took 10 minutes on my home WiFi system.
#4, set the app for your desired riding mode, and personal information. There are two mod...

With some really good deals floating around on "Black Friday" Thanksgiving sales the opportunity to upgrade my safety gear was too good to miss with these two items from Alpinestars. I have had my Dainese D-Air jacket for about 4 years now with no complaints. But, with the advance of the technology and the ability to have a safety airbag jacket along with an outer jacket specifically designed f...

Visiting Andrew Jackson at his home The Hermitage 4K
Просмотров 7114 дней назад
A little off the usual for me, but I am a huge history buff and I had the opportunity to visit Andrew Jackson's home "The Hermitage." Our 7th President was controversial, tough, and a force to be reckoned with in his time. He was a "populist" President and the first one not to come from the Eastern elites that had supplied all previous USA Presidents. Now the mansion is very interesting, but on...

Come along with me as I replace the battery in my "FOBO" tire pressure monitoring system. I've had this installed on my Tuono for about 3 years now and the battery is finally needing to replaced. It's very easy to do and while we are at it, I discuss the system, how it works, why I like it, and some limitations you might need to be aware of regarding your own bike. Cheers!

A treat for all to ride on such a beautiful California November day, particularly on our Aprilia Tuono! In this case we are on the "Sentimental Journey" back to the hyperbaric facility. While riding and taking in the gorgeous scenery I explain the process and the equipment used for my 40 sessions of oxygenation. Oh NO! Dropping bits of Tuono on the Road! 4K
There were such issues when it was first released. I think it’s fairly solid now.
I almost bought the same Techair 5 , same black Friday, , but ended up with the Helite tethered one, reading reviews of Alpinestars TechAir 5, I just saw too many ( for me at least) reviews that had false deployment while riding , or someone tapping the rider on the shoulder causing deployment, r hitting a bump that bucked the rider,, or pothole, and if it happened to me, not sure the deployment will not cause accident by itself, and I believe if my memory serve me, one none deployment review, but need to double check that, just feel like the testing was really done for moto GP, and not enough data yet for the streets, not enough people own it to have perfect algorithm, the Helite on the other hand, is over is a decade long plus proven in many accidents, easier to maintain, the tethered should always work, although some scenarios you might touch the ground first, depend how tight you have it on, but for sure, Helite not as good as the Techair 5, in terms of looks, comfort etc.. Might be totally wrong on that, actually both were not far in terms of price, basically almost the same... just did not want to buy something that might deploy if I hit a bump, or stand on the bike to brace a bump...
That's interesting because I ended up with the TechAir for the same reason you went Helite....potential false deployment. But, one advantage of Helite (as I understand it anyway) the user can recharge the system with a new gas cylinder....that did give me some pause to consider it. Well, hopefully neither of us will crash and we'll both be happy!
@@GareyCooperdude Yes, the Helite you can self replace the canister, very easy, and it is selling for around $30. The tether takes 60 lb of force to deploy, so when you get off the bike, it kind of gives you a nudge, reminds you if you will to disconnect. But, yes hope for safe riding and to never use it, Happy new Year !
Thank you Garey!
Good video Garey. Very interesting.
Walk that course often, yes always remember those who came before us. Just a FYI that is the Burgess cemetery
@@McG24Projects thanks, for the info!
Beautiful day in San Diego Garey... Enjoyed the video, probably a fuel sensor. best wishes !
My screen just doesn't come off so I looked if there's a video about it but no one really shows how to remove it. Is there a trick or is it supposed to slide out very easy? 🥲
It’s been a while since we did this….but I don’t remember any special tricks to it……maybe look to see if there is a direction to slide it so tabs slip out and off? Also, I’ve seen people use some double sided tape so check for any adhesive holding it down.
@@GareyCooperdude thanks for your answer, i just got it out! The little rubber things that you screw into were kinda gummed to the oem screen so i had to warm everything up a bit and push the windscreen against the fairing first to get it loose. now it slides right in and out!
@@sadilia3938 Oh man, that makes me feel so good to have helped a fellow rider out there! Enjoy and ride safe dude!
Great ride. Enjoy the pretty weather. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
Thank you Tom! We are lucky indeed…..
Hello Garey, wonderful VLOG as always. You are keeping up the morale of us Brits sat in the chilly UK.
My thoughts too. Sunny dry roads with no salt seems like a long time ago…
Haha, always glad to help out our cousins “across the pond”!
Happy Holiday to you and Ur family, Best wishes, we are all blessed to be citizens of this great country, and for being able to be healthy enough to get on two wheels....
Very True guzziman! And given my recent history I’m glad to be able to get back out and ride….best holiday wishes to you!
Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 mi amigo, hope you have a wonderful time with your family:)
Thanks my friend, you too! Gracias, y igualmente!
Great to see you back at it. You always kept a positive attitude during difficult times. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanks! It's great to be back and I appreciate the support! Hoping to have a little further improvement over the next little bit o’ time sir.
Happy Christmas geary ❤❤❤
Same to you! Don’t know if they observe “Thanksgiving” in the UK? But I do know you’ve got Christmas there dude! So, looking forward to December and ol’ Father Christmas giving you lots of nice stuff.
First of all use better pipes on you bike. Loud pipes aren't any safer on the road and damages you own hearing with every minute you're riding. Get a helmet designed for low wind noise. At this point all you actually need is earplugs that filters high and low frequencies out. Pretty much any earplug will do the job.
@@KurtFrederiksen good advice…on the pipes as far as that saying goes “loud pipes save lives” ain’t necessarily so! Someone in a car with a loud radio and heavy insulation won’t hear 👂 you! Thanks for the advice.
How de cowboy ❤
All I am going to say is that if you met my wife, you would not want earplugs ...and the faster the damage the better :):) In all seriousness, wear your ear plugs riders...you don't want ringing ears in the middle of the night, it is torture...
@@guzziman 😁😅that there’s funny!
Hey Garey include links to these ear plugs so we can research them. thanks
@@tomg4592 thanks, good comment when I get back (visiting family in Tennessee) I will add links…
Good job Garey. I need to settle on a good pair of plugs.
Beware these after market gas caps can allow rain to enter the gas tank and if not correctly installed can cause the tank to implode - only recommend installing on a track bike
Not had an issue myself with either of those two concerns. However I am in San Diego, California where rain is not a common enough thing really. And, I think it is really important to make sure the vent line is not obstructed when you install these things....I may not have emphasized this enough...but good points!
Hey Geary ❤ it’s great to see your back on Tony thunder ! It Would be great to ride with you on them canyons ! Starting to get bored riding in the middle of nowhere 😂
If'n your travels ever carry you stateside, y'all come and say "howdy."
@ for sure geary I would love to meet up with you
It is too bad more older cage drivers don't consider others safety when their skills diminish.
Too true! I have just as much to fear from senior drivers with no sense as younger ones with no sense!
I was wondering Garey, and I guess everyone else reading this, 2 years of ownership in and I still feel uncomfortable adjusting the chain. The 20mm play on the top run just makes the whole chain seem so tight. I know the tension is correct because anything looser and the quick shifter misbehaves. I also found the chain needed a lot of regular adjustment in the first 1000 miles or so. I tried to find RUclips clips of people with the same bike adjusting their chain. I found a couple and the comments section was full, "your chain is too tight" comments. Do you have any problems with the chain tension?
I do not.....but you've given me an idea for a possible VLOG. However I am far from a heavy user......but have you tried using one of the adjustment/alignment tools to help? They make it easier to see you've done it right hopefully.
@ Hi Garey, I did watch your chain adjuster install video from 2017 and was considering going down the same path. However it is not so much making the adjustment itself, it is the fact that when you tighten it to factory spec, the chain feels tighter than an over tuned guitar string. It just feels wrong. I’ve never had a bike before that’s required such a low amount of free play. Anyway, thanks for the reply and thanks for all the videos!
The fuel sender is sourced from the same place Ducati get theirs from………
Has to be, right?
Hi Garey, its common problem with the fuel indicator. Unfortunatelly there must be replaced some part in the fuel tank to get this thing to operate normally again.😒
Thanks for the detailed information Garey, learned a few things from it and enjoyed to see you back on the Tuono.... Glad this staff is behind you. best wishes.
Appreciate the support, it’s been a long road!
Delighted to see and hear you are back on that super bike Garey. And I’m listening carefully to the story of your treatment. We have anticyclonic gloom here in the UK at the minute which means days of overcast, grey skies, mist and cold mornings and max temps of 12-15 degrees C. The roads are greasy and muddy so hoping for a break to colder, drier conditions.
Oh man sorry to hear! But that's one of the benefits of San Diego living...and that's why we pay the taxes we do!
Right weather to ride the Tuono Garey 👍
Isn't that so?! We've been really blessed these last couple of weeks in San Diego....clear and bright cool days. Lucky to be around and riding! Thanks Thomas!
Garey, very glad to hear the optimism and the good spirits, hope for 100% recovery soon.
Thanks so much! I can live like this, I'd just like to be greedy and get that last little bit back....
Garey, buddy - so glad to hear you're doing well! I'm only now starting to catch up on your videos and adventures! Gratitude is a wonderful thing for everyone involved and it is a great place to reach as life take us where it will. Take care, and all our best to you and yours!
Thanks, my friend, you as well! It feels good to renew my RUclips acquaintances Tom!
Do you guys know where to buy rear foot pegs for the APR Tuareg 660? Thanks :)
Sorry, I do not....I didn't know they didn't come with foot pegs?!
@@GareyCooperdude I broke one passenger foot peg. Only find one OEM, but is very expensive :/ Thanks mate!
Best wishes on your travels. Ex Aprilia Tuono factory owner. On to Ninja H2 sx se + now. Just wasn't using the great handling of the Aprilia.
I've always been a fan of Aprilia but I can understand why you'd want to switch to a bike that better suits your needs. Not gonna say I was never tempted! That is one cool machine....
Glad to see you out enjoying a beautiful day. your old pal from Alabama, tom
Hey Tom, glad to hear from you!
Great improvement. My garage needs the same treatment
It's a never-ending battle but always worth it to try and keep the clutter in check.
Hey Garey, I need you to come help me clean out my garage 🤣
A couple of "Old Fashioned" or a beer or two and who knows? Stranger things have happened...LOL.
Glad to see you riding again. I sent an email to you earlier today. Keep the videos coming. tom
Thanks dude! I'll check the email.....
Wishing you best of health. Happy riding & take care.
Greetings back to you my friend from the "sub-continent" hopefully all is well with you and that you are getting some sunshine as well.
It's good to see you back on the bike again. Here's all the best for you to get back to 100% fitness. I'm envious of the great weather you have there, unlike the UK.
Yup, as said, there are good things to living in San Diego! But, you've got some awesome bike roads in the UK to compensate somewhat......thanks!
Glad you have been holding strong. I was wondering why you hadn't ridden in a while this explains it.
Thanks! Yeah, coming back around......maybe I'll do a full detail of my "adventures" for all the men folk out there?
Great to see you back on Tony and getting back to full health mate ❤❤
Thanks Ashley! I still want to see some pictures of your new MT-10 and report on what you think of it.......hope you're getting some sunshine there in the "middle of nowhere" UK...LOL.
Keep doing what you love, Garey! Looks like we're in the same neck of the woods, so I'll give you a big wave if I ever see (or most likely hear) your bike! Ride safe and hope your health continues to improve
A fellow San Diegan......nice!
All good and glad to see you on the bike again Gary. Any day you can ride on two wheels is a good day.
Way true my friend! I'm glad just to be able to roll around on two wheels!
nice to see you again Gary, sound from the Tuono and this beautiful weather is also somehow medicine 👍👍 Greetings from Germany
Good point Thomas, yes the weather is part of the medicine for sure......we will actually have visitors from Germany this week to visit us! So, small world.
@@GareyCooperdude thanks for your answer, enjoy your visitors from Germany and have a nice time.
Nice to see you enjoying the aprilia Gary wreather looks lovely,,wreather is getting a colder here in Ireland you making want go for a spin on my 2018 tuono😂
Glad to see you are feeling much better
I had a '17 model before this one, so that '18 is pretty doggone cool in my opinion! And, yes there are good things to living in San Diego.
Watching this Gary from a grey and cold village in the UK, and therefore jealous of a ride in the sunshine. Delighted to hear your health is improving.
Here's to hoping you get some more sunny days there before the end o' the year! Yup, happy to be in California, San Diego! And yes sir, still kicking!~
So glad you are doing better Gary!!
Thanks so much red rider!
I wish you had measured and told us what the actual min/max from the center back wheel to the kickstand needs to be to ensure each of us that our bike will fit this Venom dolly before purchasing it. I have noticed for all the motorcycle dollys out there, only one brand listed that important measurement in the spec. I can imagine there are a lot of "returns" of motorcycle dollys.
I agree, that is a critical measurement to know. I should have done this to help others who might be considering the dolly.....I was pretty disgusted by the end stage here and frustrated with the product. I could have saved a lot of time with instructions.....I don't consider myself a complete neophyte when it comes to things mechanical but this was a frustration. I could have cut down the kickstand arm and made it work....but I did not relish hacksawing the arm..I don't have a cutter or cutting torch and I was not in a mood to put in extra work on the thing. I suppose I could've asked a friend to cut it down...but again...l was not in a mood to put that kind of work in..... Good point David!
Hello Gary, thank you for this vlog 😊
My pleasure
first off, excellent video, these are the one's i am purchasing per your recommendation for my aprilia tuono 660..
Glad I could help, they do look better.
Thank you for your contributions, Garey.
Out of curiosity, what lavalier microphone do you have clipped to your shirt? Is that the Sony stereo one? I've had trouble with some lavalier mics and the Ulanzi AM18. As for being able to see the display on the Ulanzi, if you get a Neewer UA030 cold shoe adapter, it will let you turn the base unit towards you so you can see the display on the AM18.
Good call! Yes it is the Sony stereo mic...rock solid, a bit on the expensive side when compared with so many others out there...but you just know Sony makes good gear. I'm good to look up that Neewer unit you recommend, thanks so. much for the advice!
