I must mention how emotional Segun Akinola’s score is here! One of my favourite pieces of the era, which I’m positive will be included on TPOTD soundtrack coming out on the 16th! 🎧 It’s also one of my favourite scenes of the episode as well. Yaz’s reaction makes the scene all that more moving 😢 Why does it make sense for Yaz to leave here? Because no matter who The Doctor regenerates into, Yaz’s “Doctor” will be gone, and the pain would be too hard to bear for her seeing someone else in 13’s place! 😔 It’s not one of the worst exits, but it works well enough!
I love seeing the Doctor and Yaz sharing a last cute moment together before the regeneration. They deserve it. It's sad and beautiful at the same time 😭😍💖😭😍💖😭😍💖
So many companions over the years end up becoming a big part of the universe only to later suffer terrible fates. Rose Tyler becomes Embodiment of Bad Wolf only to save the doctor but later gets trapped in another dimension forever Along with mom and Mickey because they tried all too hard to stay. Jack Becomes the immortal leader of torchwood and live for over 5 billion years only to become reduced to the face of boe but in the end he uses his remaining energy to save millions of lives Amy and Rory become the parents of River Song only to later get trapped in the past forever because like Rose they tried too hard to stay with the doctor. Clara Oswald becomes "The Impossible girl" only to later sacrifice herself to save the doctor but later gets pulled out of her own timeline to escape her fate but for some reason has to wiped the doctor's memory of her. And we'll never get to see what adventures Clara will have in her own tardis, Bill Pots... well she unexpectedly became the first cyberman Anyway it feels so much better when the doctor can just have some good company and just say goodbye the normal way.
It made me sad to See them not Kissing. New who Had Always been a place where Non heterosexualtity was handled directly and Not Tip toed around. I think Back to series 10 with Bill and how openly the Show dealt with her Sexuality. But this is sad. I mean its your final episode Chris at least Go through with it now. 🤦 Im Sure Russell will correct all this with His new era
But it is dealing with their sexuality. While Yaz is allosexual bi or lesbian clearly, the Doctor is and always has been asexual. Eating ice cream instead of becoming physical is absolutely ace coded and makes perfect sense.
@@Timelord79 The doctor might be asexual, but they generally still are open to kissing. The ninth and tenth doctor kissed plenty in their run, the eleventh doctor as well. It is not a stretch to think, that while the doctor might not be sexually active or experience sexual attractin, that they would not kiss yaz here. Just a kiss. Fairly innocent. Not very sexual. As it is the scene can still be read as if they were just friends.
@@F5ss True, but not having a desire to kiss would be typical ace behavior, so it fits. And let's be honest, going for ice cream instead is a very ace thing to do, if the writers intended it or not. All I am really saying is, that expecting a kiss or more out of that relationship is a very allosexual point of view, which is understandable, if that is reflecting your own world.
I regret not watching this when I had the chance, people back then weee sad but they didn’t seem to be that emotional but yaz is more modern so see her show that kind of emotion here really highlights how truly hurt she was because she had to say goodbye

I was looking forward to a laughably bad regeneration, but we didn't even get that. It was just boring bad just like the entirety of the Chibnall era. Farewell. You really won't be missed and will probably be forgotten about to repress the memory of just how bad you were.
I really hope Yaz shows up once more at least as closure if Yaz doesn’t return as a companion, like if Yaz was way too attached to the 13th, it hurts too much to follow a new incarnation.
is she referencing something we've seen before when she says "A wise person once said to me, 'Goodbyes only hurt because what came before was so special?''"
Nobody else got to be us. Nobody else got to live our days. Nobody. And my hearts are so full of love for all of you. I have loved being with you Yas. And I have loved being me. If you reword that slightly and remove the references to Yas and two hearts then that would be a brilliant quote to live by. I adore Jodie’s delivery
Except, Jodie could legitimately say "hearts"; she was pregnant when they filmed this. Unlike any other Doctor actor, she really did have two hearts within her :)
As underwhelming as Yaz's exit was, it leaves the door wide open for her to come back at any point, and I hope she makes a return possibly to meet Ncuti or another future doctor
Well for one thing, at the time the special was recorded, I believe it was up in the air if Doctor Who was still going to continue. Hence why David's scene was shot on a later day. So there's that. And I guess RTD wanted a clean slate for Ncuti. Hence why his era is starting at season 1 for Disney Who. Narrative wise, there's no reason why Yaz couldn't stick around. But I guess it could be that it would have been too hard to see 13 turn into someone else for her.
This scene in the TARDIS makes you cry everytime. It's wonderful that she stayed on for all of the Doctor's episodes, but seeing her Doctor die is truly sad. Edit: Or i'm just a baby
This broke me. They were a perfect team. I had absolutely nothing against the others, but IMHO it would have been better throughout if they popped in on occasion for when the story required more people (maybe they'd be off doing grandpa/grandson things in the case of Graham and Ryan), because these two ladies absolutely nailed it, no matter how bad the writing (not in this scene, it was perfect!)
And so the era of the most boring companion with zero personality finally ends. Fitting that the Doctor just dumped her off somewhere and then went to regenerate by herself.
@@EthanJones2 I think 13's era has been by far the best looking one. What they did with the reduced budget that they were given is incredible. Especially the cinematography and colouring are far superior to the earlier years. As much as I love RTDs run, it was just pink, blue and green lights. I also think the camerawork is more ambitious in many of Jodie's episodes. But you know, it's still Doctor Who. Obviously the visual effects and CGI can't be compared to Netflix or Disney productions.
Yaz wasn't my favourite and I never liked the arc the writers went with her for the doctor, but I do think her ending is really good. It made it seem like she got over her love for the doctor, or accepted that it'd never work out, especially after the regeneration. This episode actually made me like Yaz a little more.
Why would the Doctor push Yaz away? The Doctor has never pushed away a companion before regenerating. It looks to me like Davies just didn't want Yaz on the roster for his second run. I don't really think much of Yaz as a character, so I can't disagree with him there. But her exit should have been handled better. Dan's exit made sense. Yaz's didn't.
I tried to keep myself together during this scene but seeing Yas's reaction to the regeneration energy coming off of the Doctor just made me lose it and start crying😭
The problem with this exit? It makes NO SENSE. Why does Yaz have to leave The Doctor, story-wise? She could have stayed on as a companion, it doesn't make ANY sense!
The next one wouldn't be doctor, she came to terms that her journey Tardis was over. Plus most companions linked to a specific doctor leave at the same time.
It really doesn't. They should have had a legitimate reason for Yaz to leave; regeneration isn't a good enough reason for her to leave someone she's in love with.
@@chrispy3369 But there are ways to make her leaving believable, I know the tragic fate for companions was already done a lot by RTD and Moffat but I'm not buying Yaz leaving willingly as she was still looking for the Doctor and loyal to her a few episodes ago. She could've moved on so many times but didn't so why is it the case now? It would've worked better if she died or had something similar to Rose or the Ponds which did no longer allow her to see the Doctor.
A detail I like is that The Doctor's ice cream flavour is Mint-Choc-Chip, a combination of two flavours, symbolising the transition between her and the next Doctor.
I am still unhappy that we didn't get more time with this Doctor. At least some post-Covid time. Not crazy about the return of Tenant though I liked his incarnation. Of course, I've never been a member of The Powers-That-Be so not much I could do about it.

@@dancygrRTD said "don't worry this may not stick" so It might only be for ncutis first season because of the 60th anniversary but i feel like shorter is better if it means we get a season every year.
Waiting for a series with 13 epsidoes sometimes takes 2-3 years and russel said with the 8 episodes he can guarantee there will be a season every year.
I would've liked more time with her.
We all wanted more time too.
The Regeneration does feel like you are losing someone you care about 💔 and is so close to you
The Doctor: I want more time with you but I'm going to regenerate now so you'll have to piss off for no reason.
Yaz: Ok. Bye!
@@hcproductions6445 you’ve said this on every comment bro allow it
The fact that the TARDIS used her direst emergency sound to tell the Doctor what was wrong hits the feels
Yaz would be surprised if she had gotten to see the Doctor regenerate in front of her own eyes and had asked how many of the Doctor's other companions had seen that happen.
Yeah but they all had trouble accepting the new incarnation. The Doctor was probably sick of it. Though Peri had good reason not to like Six.
The Doctor: I want more time with you but I'm going to regenerate now so you'll have to piss off for no reason.
Yaz: Ok. Bye!
@@hcproductions6445 because every companion that goes through regeneration has trouble accepting the new doctor. Yaz could stay but her Doctor would be gone. Rose wanted Ten to turn back into Nine. Peri kept whining how Six was meaner than Five etc. why go through that again?
@@potsdam28 I do think Clara had a better relationship with him when he was 12 than she'd had with him when he was 11, but yeah, that got off to a pretty rough start too.
@@potsdam28 I mean, Six did try to strangle her, I would complain too.
Jodie and Mandip are really close you can tell they were on the brink of tears
We have to understand that even though this Doctor to us had three seasons, we have to assume she went on lots of adventures with all these companions in between episodes. Hence why Big Finish can always make Doctor Who Audios endlessly.
Gill plays this scene achingly raw. The Doctor will go on, but Yaz is watching her die.
Make my heart break so much like into melting ice cream
I love that her glowing hand is holding the ice cream
I must mention how emotional Segun Akinola’s score is here! One of my favourite pieces of the era, which I’m positive will be included on TPOTD soundtrack coming out on the 16th! 🎧
It’s also one of my favourite scenes of the episode as well. Yaz’s reaction makes the scene all that more moving 😢
Why does it make sense for Yaz to leave here? Because no matter who The Doctor regenerates into, Yaz’s “Doctor” will be gone, and the pain would be too hard to bear for her seeing someone else in 13’s place! 😔
It’s not one of the worst exits, but it works well enough!
I love seeing the Doctor and Yaz sharing a last cute moment together before the regeneration. They deserve it. It's sad and beautiful at the same time 😭😍💖😭😍💖😭😍💖
Me to make me wanna melt 😢😂😂❤
What a lovely scene, such a sweet and emotinal moment, one of the best of the era.
I didn't _love_ 13's run but I really felt Yaz's reaction to 13 beginning to regenerate. It just felt real.
So many companions over the years end up becoming a big part of the universe only to later suffer terrible fates.
Rose Tyler becomes Embodiment of Bad Wolf only to save the doctor but later gets trapped in another dimension forever Along with mom and Mickey because they tried all too hard to stay.
Jack Becomes the immortal leader of torchwood and live for over 5 billion years only to become reduced to the face of boe but in the end he uses his remaining energy to save millions of lives
Amy and Rory become the parents of River Song only to later get trapped in the past forever because like Rose they tried too hard to stay with the doctor.
Clara Oswald becomes "The Impossible girl" only to later sacrifice herself to save the doctor but later gets pulled out of her own timeline to escape her fate but for some reason has to wiped the doctor's memory of her. And we'll never get to see what adventures Clara will have in her own tardis,
Bill Pots... well she unexpectedly became the first cyberman
Anyway it feels so much better when the doctor can just have some good company and just say goodbye the normal way.
Agreed that's one of the things I love about classic who 90% of the companions left on their own terms.
Im Sure Russell will correct all this with His new era
Going miss jodies doctor
Same. She was wonderful

@@vwtaigo1428 I think we can all have opinions, don't be fascist like
Just imagine if Chris could write and we got to see this character development happening on screen then off this moment would be way better
I regret not watching this when I had the chance, people back then weee sad but they didn’t seem to be that emotional but yaz is more modern so see her show that kind of emotion here really highlights how truly hurt she was because she had to say goodbye
Still annoyed these two didn't get the kiss they deserved.
@Michael Repulsed by something as simple as a lesbian kiss? Definitely a bigot.
@@cheapfinish6224 Not so. And the bigotry is strong with you as well. So cringe.
Yes, definitively. Everytime I watch this scene I think "kiss her. Just kiss her." This would be so cute and fit the tone of this good bye.
I was so sad watching this Jodie Whittaker has been a great doctor and has inspired me that even though I'm a girl I can do anything!!! I recently played football and was the only girl but I kept thinking to myself wwtdd
I was looking forward to a laughably bad regeneration, but we didn't even get that. It was just boring bad just like the entirety of the Chibnall era.

Sutekh crying as he witnesses heartbreak
The TARDIS's default setting for "home" on Earth seems to be Croyden!
Shame this was their last date
I really hope Yaz shows up once more at least as closure if Yaz doesn’t return as a companion, like if Yaz was way too attached to the 13th, it hurts too much to follow a new incarnation.
Why is noone mentioning how nice the lets not say goodbye is, the doctor hates goodbyes
is she referencing something we've seen before when she says "A wise person once said to me, 'Goodbyes only hurt because what came before was so special?''"
Not that I'm aware of, but it could be from a comic book or other media
Who said it
Could it be to do with River Sing???
YAZ: How many times do you think you've saved Earth?
DOCTOR: I've lost count. *That is if you include audio adventures, novelisations as well as TV.*
Meet... David Tennant! That'd be weird!
You can't go wrong with modern regeneration, YOU CAN'T every modern Who regeneration is BRILLIANT!
Thank you Jodie
Why couldn't Yaz just stay and hang with the new doctor? Was there a reason?
Well for one thing, at the time the special was recorded, I believe it was up in the air if Doctor Who was still going to continue. Hence why David's scene was shot on a later day. So there's that. And I guess RTD wanted a clean slate for Ncuti. Hence why his era is starting at season 1 for Disney Who. Narrative wise, there's no reason why Yaz couldn't stick around. But I guess it could be that it would have been too hard to see 13 turn into someone else for her.
13: (chillin with Yaz)
14 inside of 13: (insert ‘LET ME INNNN’ meme)
Best episode of Jodie's reign.
true... because the other Doctors were in it
No that was the spyfall episode.
Village of the angels is the best episode.
Top 5 Jodie Eps:
1. The Woman who fell to Earth
2. The Demons of the Punjab
3. The Spyfall 2 parter
4. Revolution
5. Power of the Doctor
@Michael Better then the first two seasons of Capaldi's run. Fight me.
This scene in the TARDIS makes you cry everytime. It's wonderful that she stayed on for all of the Doctor's episodes, but seeing her Doctor die is truly sad.
Edit: Or i'm just a baby
This broke me. They were a perfect team. I had absolutely nothing against the others, but IMHO it would have been better throughout if they popped in on occasion for when the story required more people (maybe they'd be off doing grandpa/grandson things in the case of Graham and Ryan), because these two ladies absolutely nailed it, no matter how bad the writing (not in this scene, it was perfect!)
i miss them so much i literally watched this episode today but yet i miss them
I miss them too. Sometimes it doesn't sink in that both Jodie and Mandip have left the show.
I hope to see Yaz again one day.
Me to❤
There was no reason Jas couldn't stay with the next Doctor apart from the real world reason of changing of the guard
And so the era of the most boring companion with zero personality finally ends. Fitting that the Doctor just dumped her off somewhere and then went to regenerate by herself.
The "era of the most boring companion with zero personality" ended when Ryan left, IMHO.
@@ftumschk oh god I forget he even existed. Thanks for reminding me! He was even worse.
The thing is as a long term doctor who fan I know mandip will probably come back in a later season in some special

Tbh, Jodie Whittaker did an amazing job as the doctor. She just needed a better writer
One last low-budget trip with Yaz
Lol its Doctor who low Budget is a staple of the series since 63.
@@neptune04 2005-2013 graphics were good, then they went down hill
@@EthanJones2 Thats reasonable just saying Doctor who has always had low budget stuff its just not as obvious now.
@@neptune04 Ye, but at 2:09 it looks like a GCSE media project anyone could make with a green screen and a camera
The Doctor: I want more time with you but I'm going to regenerate now so you'll have to piss off for no reason.
Yaz: Ok. Bye!
Yaz's didn't.
agreed, especially since they hinted at a romantic thing... which just kind of disappeared?
I tried to keep myself together during this scene but seeing Yas's reaction to the regeneration energy coming off of the Doctor just made me lose it and start crying😭
Me to it is like heart break 💔😭 for them
I almost threw something at the tv
The problem with this exit? It makes NO SENSE. Why does Yaz have to leave The Doctor, story-wise? She could have stayed on as a companion, it doesn't make ANY sense!
Because RTD rightfully wants to stay as far away from Chibs's storybas possible.
The next one wouldn't be doctor, she came to terms that her journey Tardis was over.
Plus most companions linked to a specific doctor leave at the same time.
It really doesn't. They should have had a legitimate reason for Yaz to leave; regeneration isn't a good enough reason for her to leave someone she's in love with.
lol thats what people asked in classic when Leela left.
It would've worked better if she died or had something similar to Rose or the Ponds which did no longer allow her to see the Doctor.
can we stop with over-dramatic clips of the worst doctor of all time now? Its getting annoying. Stahp. Just stahp.
I mean, you don't have to watch them lol
You dont have to Watch it i like her
A detail I like is that The Doctor's ice cream flavour is Mint-Choc-Chip, a combination of two flavours, symbolising the transition between her and the next Doctor.
I am still unhappy that we didn't get more time with this Doctor. At least some post-Covid time. Not crazy about the return of Tenant though I liked his incarnation. Of course, I've never been a member of The Powers-That-Be so not much I could do about it.
