  • New England Patriots backup Quarterback Bailey Zappe highlights in 309 yard/2 touchdown performance vs the Cleveland Browns. Zappe also had a 70% completion percentage and 1 reception from himself for -5 yards.

      The play where he steps up outta Garrett’s hands and makes the rest of the d line fall down. Mac takes the sack there I think.

    What’s most impressive for me is his pocket awareness, does a great job stepping up in the pocket when needed to get more time and deliver a strike

    He’s better than Mac. His arm strength, awareness, poise and ability to step up in the pocket and get through his progressions quickly allows him to utilize more of the weapons the patriots have. I like Mac too but Zappe is just better. Imagine him with a year of starter experience under his belt! Kid is a natural at the position.

    Look at that poise. Look at that accuracy. Look at that timing and read. So fast DB's couldn't even recover to make a play on the passing route.

    This kid has talent... bigger and brighter talent than... #10. The third - cancelled - touchdown. This kid plays with incredible composure (Tom Brady plays like that), coolness and determination. This kid needs to play and if the Patriots don't get him in the game - he will be doing great things for another team very soon.

    That td called back play was amazing. First of all, that was an underrated stiff arm to throw his defender out of the play and then to find his WR was insane. You don't see rookie QB putting stiff arms out like that haha that's some 4th year Josh Allen highlight but that f'er is 6'5 240 lbs

    I just know when I watch zappe there's moments where he gets rushed from blind side yet he steps up into pocket and delivers under pressure... Mac takes a sack and gets stripped

      Fair to point out he's played against 3 very soft defenses, but it's also fair to point out that he's done his job in each of the 3 games he's played, He won 2 and did enough to win against Aaron Rodgers.

    It’s difficult to say that the guy that went to a pro bowl, the playoffs, and won OROY all in his fist season needs to be the back up. But that’s exactly what needs to happen. Zappe has more zip on the ball and accuracy to go with it. For what is needed in our offense, zappe needs to play

      Mac didn’t win OROY and I still haven’t seen enough from Zappe to warrant benching Mac. I will say how incredible it is that Bill has drafted the best rookie quarterback in back to back drafts

      I agree 💯. Very tough to make that statement and switch but Zappe’s traits and ability are there. Better arm and he seems to step up and process things faster along with using more of our players talents throughout the game.

    I was ecstatic about Mac last year, expectations for him this season are still high. I am amazed at what the front office found in Zappe, but I'm not going to throw shade on Mac.
    I hope the fan base doesn't turn on Mac, he doesn't deserve that.

      i agree too. but mac was not a natural this year, but you're right. mac will have solid options either way. they won't give up on him unless zappe turns into a savant situation, a la brady.

      he wasnt natural cause they had a defensive coordinator calling offensive plays, you could tell cause they are both good
      qbs and that bears game was attrocious for both of them, mainly zappe though, threw two picks and fumbled

    I love the Patriots and I love Mac AND Bailey. HOWEVER I am also a Cleveland Browns fan and as that I know that Belichick completely dumpsters us no matter what QB he has (unless we have someone from his coaching tree). Browns defense was a joke last year, so was Detriot's. Bailey is good, but he was going against shit competition. I wouldn't get excited over beating Cleveland and Detroit.

    Although Zappe played good, the stats are a little deceiving considering each receiver had a lot of YAC and were wide open the whole game.

      yeah but YAC is a part of the Patriots' style for their offense anyway. Think of guys like edelman and Gronk, they were always gaining a lot of yards after turning into runners. The offensive plan literally sets up these situations.
      One of the most impressive things Zappe did against the Brown is those throws that threaded the needle through multiple defenders to land right in the hands of the reciver. That was literally Brady like and it opens up a lot of YAC especially against zone defense because you're hitting a guy they thought was covered.
      Mac can do this too but this year he's lacked the elite touch to really slot it in there. Zappe, obviously against bad defenses, looks like his touch might be a bit better at the moment
