Hi Alice, you really bring up a great question. What is more important, listening to a small quiet voice inside that pulls softly to giving expression to your creativity and your connection to how you see the world. Or doing your chores. I get the issue. I really do. If your chores are looking after someone that needs your help then can be art too. But if you don't do drawing and painting because of fear of expressing yourself (and this is really common) and you use chores as a way to avoid it, well then perhaps that is worth looking at. I am not trying to convince you one way or the other. Just suggesting something to look at. All the best.
I paint in the morning, and set an alarm for mid-afternoon to get my chores done. Helps me to get something creative done early, while my brain is fresh

I'm guessing you must be in AU or NZ. I only offer the course once a year because when this one is over then we do the brushwork course in our spring and color in our fall. So it takes a year almost to get through the whole set.

I've had students from AU and NZ in past years and it is really early for you. Depending on your time zone like 2 am or 4 am. I do record the call so you can listen them later that morning. And I'll hold one call during the course specifically for everyone down your way so you at least get one call live. But the live component is not that fundamental to your success. All the best.
HI Barbara, for me at least it is the big value masses that hold our attention. Even from the side of a room. The tendency I find for a lot of abstract painters is the idea that color is doing it and brushwork. Then I think embellish a strong value driven design. So the best way to learn anything is to isolate it and practice that. Deliberate practice on that. So doing lots of smaller value driven paintings - maybe limited palette, even black and white to get a foundation in would be helpful. Hope that helps. All the best and good luck.

Ian, behind you have many sketches of people but I didn't see yet no one panting where the people is the principal element, no one portrait. Don't you like it?
I love portraits. But maybe figures more in the sense of the whole person not just their head. Those drawings keep changing so maybe right now there aren't any portraits. All the best to you.

I feel the same, so I make a daily schedule and get the chores done first. Then my mind feels free start painting.

Chores will always be there. They can be a reason to dodge what you really want to do- paint, draw, create.
