    Thanks for this tip Scott! I have the same bike and the same issue. Only one bike to haul around and I really didn't like what was out there. I especially did not like the prices. It is crazy that you can buy motorcycle racks so much cheaper. I had looked at this one and actually did pull the trigger on buying it before I saw your video. Was unsure if I had made a good decision. Once I got it I was bound and determined to not have to drill new holes. But after a good workout of shifting pins, lifting the bike back up and down about a dozen times, I found that it wasn't going to work in a way I liked without drilling a couple of new holes. No big deal super easy to do and well worth it! It was the perfect solution for me. I also did not keep the ramp. The rack sits very high when attached to my Jeep so the angle of the ramp would cause the bike to hang up. No big deal I just lift it up there anyway. Keep the great content coming!

      I'm glad you found this video valuable. I don't use the rack either. Or at least I didn't when I have it. Now that I have quite a few ebikes, I had to get a rack that would hold 2.

    I have the Holly wood rack HR1500. It can handle two heavy Bikes with or without fenders. They also have a newer model Destination E Bike Rack for Electric Bikes. It also handles two bikes, is RV rated and has a ramp. Its about $700 vs $500 for the HR1500. Its pretty easy to use, once you get used to it.

    OK, I'm going to try this bike rack for my Aventure. Just a note that if you are not built like Scott, just parallel the bike to the rack, a little forward, lock the rear brake, lift up on the front and place the tire in the bike rack, then lift the rear tire into the rack. This way I don't have to pick up the entire 73lbs. Thanks for the vid.

    I have this rack for my dirt bike. You installed the braces on top instead of the bottom. Think of trying to wheel an actual motorcycle with bigger wheels past the center the way you did it. But the way you did it will work. Just keep that in mind if anyone reads this that it's meant to be flipped and be on the bottom, out of the way of loading/unloading.
    Also, it's strong enough for e-bikes but not for a 200lb dirt bike despite being rated for 500lb motorcycles. I bought a steel inner square tube for the main hitch tube and drilled holes through it so I could weld it in and fit hitch pin. Super strong now. Only added a couple of lbs of weight to it.

    Scott, my local Aventon dealer recommended the Swagman Current bike rack. At $475 it's more expensive than the one in this video of yours. I like it because (1) the bolt that goes through the hitch is lockable and includes a cable for added security, (2) the cradles on both ends of the rack are manufactured in such a way that they hold the bike in place horizontally, (3) it comes with two u-shaped hooks that hold the bikes down vertically (although I had to purchase a crossbar adapter since I have the Aventure Stepthrough), by using the ratchet-style vertical bar, and the u-hooks are lockable, (4) unlike the bike rack in your video, the Swagman Current folds down and away from the back of my SUV so that I can raise the trunk lid, even with the bike loaded on the rack, and also folds up against the back of my SUV when not in use, and (5) the bike rack and its vertical bar both have snap-locks that snap into place when in use to keep the bike rack and the vertical bar from moving while in transit.
    On the downside, you have to be able to do a deadlift of your Aventure onto the rack. I've learned how to get my shoulder under the seat and use my body weight to lift the Aventure. And I wrap a microfiber cloth around the crossbar adapter and strap it tight with velcro straps to keep the crossbar from hitting the Aventure's frame and damaging the paint finish, just to be on the safe side. But I don't have to remove the Aventure's fenders or the battery. I can load my bike, strap it down, and be on the move in just a couple of minutes.
    So overall I am quite happy with the Swagman Current, which is rated for two 60-pound e-bikes. I can hear you saying, "That won't work with an Aventure." All I can tell you is that my Aventon dealer assured me that it will handle two Aventures, but I only have one, so I cannot personally attest to this. See swagman.net for details.
    I hauled my Aventure from Indiana to South Carolina and back in May 2023 with the battery inserted and had no problems whatsoever, even while driving through a pouring rainstorm in the Smokies.
    Thanks for another good informational video!

    Scott thanks for video. You really should take your battery out for three reasons. One: Safety. Battery may fall out and cause accident on road. Two: Bike can be stolen. Three: Battery $$500$$! Ride on!

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  Год назад +1

      I appreciate the concern. If you watch some of my videos where I take my Aventure on some mountain bike trails, you will see that I beat this bike up worse then it traveling on the back of this rack. Luckily, my battery fits snug and if it hasn’t fallen out from the abuse I put it through, then I have every confidence it will not fall out during transport. I have had to travel it with in heavy rain and that battery has kept the terminals from getting wet and causing water damage to the bike. I get it though, and understand your concern. But for me, traveling with the battery in the bike is my preferred method. I know people use pool noodles and ankle sleeves to cover up the hole and other non attractive solutions but until someone comes out with a nice 3D printed cover for the battery terminal, this is how we will travel. I also have an extra battery ;). I appreciate the feedback.

I don’t have a hitch receiver on either of my cars so I’m gonna have to get that figured out too. They have kits and what not for that I looked into it last summer but didn’t install anything. The rack your using looks promising but I might have heard you wrong on the price, if it $1000. I believe I’ll be looking elsewhere for sure. $130. Is doable and I did hear you mention that. That theory would work for sure. Once I got multiple bikes I ended up getting a different rack. Also, don't worry about the rain, these bikes are made to handle that. Just don't submerge it in a pond and you should be good to go. Here is the rack I have now. Hollywood Bike Rack: amzn.to/3BBEnPM

      Man I wish rack where a tad cheaper:) thanks for the input. A 130.00 harbor freight motorcycle sounds real good after dropping 3k in two bikes. I put the Pace 500.2 in my truck bed and worked out fine. The adventure is just too heavy to do the same

    • @scotthardesty
      @scotthardesty  Год назад

      @@greggodfrey5387 I got the one at Harbor Freight as well before this one. I wasn't able to sink the tires down into the rack (of the version they had at the one I went to) so I found this one online. I agree, I would NOT want to put the Aventure in the back of a truck to many times.
