    Something i would love to see is a time lapse of your work, your phone should have a time lapse mode and if you could video the amount of work you do and how many pages that would be awesome!

    It'd be cool to see your study schedule, and the way you arrange it to include personal time, exercise, cooking, dancing, etc. xx love your stuff!

    I had really bad homesickness when I first went away to college too and for anyone else dealing with it, the best tool is distraction, distraction, distraction! Find anything to do or even just get out for a walk even if you don't feel like it...anything to get out of your own head. Eventually the new place starts to feel as comfortable as home, and I had my four best years at college!!!

    This is so inspiring to hear you speak so honestly about you experiences, I felt the exact same way when I started boarding school (I'm off to uni next year). From my experience it does get better, and each term it's easier and easier to settle back in. You're not a wuss for crying, every cries, whether or not they admit it! An a level revision tips video would be brilliant by the way! xxxx

    I started university 8 years ago now- but that feeling of being left in my room in halls is still fresh in my memory. I remember being absolutely terrified. The best thing to do is just get involved in everything that university has to offer (like you have :)).

    I started university this year too and I totally know how you felt - I was a wreck from homesickness for the first couple of weeks and it honestly made me want to drop out, like I'd just sit in my room and cry for ages lmao. I'm so glad you settled in (and I eventually did too). I talked to a mentor at my university too and it helped me so much!!! Hope the next term goes okay for you xx

    You sound like you had exactally the same type of freshers week as i did. I'm now in 4th year at uni doing chemistry and I always look back now and laugh at myself, but as you've already seen it gets better! and to the hungry thing, I am with you on that one. I think it's because you're either actually hungry, procrastinating hunger, or being either more physically and/or mentally active.

    Wow Cambridge sounds so tough! I'm a second year Literature student at Hertfordshire (you've probably never even heard of it hahahaha) and I respect you sooo much as your first semester at Cambridge seems to have been so much more intense than my whole uni experience to date. You should be so proud of yourself! X

    I moved to uni in September 2015 and was so incredibly homesick, but it eventually got better and I finally felt settled by around the end of first year, I'm now in my second semester of second year and so glad I hung on :)

    Great, brave and honest video and so,so important - think it will comfort many who are struggling initially with uni. It's so common and yet 'hidden'/not spoken about enough, which can make people feel worse as they then put pressure on themselves to have ' the best years of their life'!. You seem to have a fab perspective (work/life balance). Good luck for when you return after the holidays :-)

    i'm almost 18 and i've been in boarding school 5 hours away from home for the past 4 years. and let me tell you, it doesn't really get much easier as the years go by. I mean, you DO get used to feeling sad more often (you eventually find things that help you get over anxious moments and help calm you down), but it still very much is painful. i never regretted the decision i consciously made, and that was the main reason why i never gave up. my school does not offer anything like a welfare program, but the "boarders" community is supportive enough. what you said about the door being closed shut after you family says goodbye and being left all by your self is really something i can totally relate to. and the worst part is that it happens a few times a year- it's like ripping a bandage off aver and over again.
    BUT
    You'll get through it! Be strong when you feel alone, think about the amazing things you receive in turn for your sacrifice, think about other things as much as possible and talk to your friends about it, they re prob going through the same :)
    Lots of hugs from me :)

    Wow, I can't believe people thought cooking was a waste of time! It can be super therapeutic, plus its hard to be productive if you don't eat well. In future, I think it would be cool if you did a vlog of a single day that showed how you typically schedule your time (so maybe with the time as a subtitle), as opposed to across a week! Or perhaps some of your favourite places to study, if you like to go to the library or venture around out of your room to work. Happy new year!

    I loooove your videos and idk if anyone has commented on this yet but, when it comes to being hungry, I feel(felt) it too. When you're in lecture even if you're nt actively paying attention, your brain is still gathering some info and, in that process, copious amounts of glucose are consumed cause that's what makes your body and mainly your brain work.
    To ensure you have enough energy, even if you're not paying attention, you're brain is already producing the "I'm hungry" signal, meaning it knows that you are in a learning environment because you once (or multiple times or all the time) payed really close attention and consumed a lot on energy (aka glucose that you get through foods).
    When it comes to being on campus, it's all about environment. You're at uni, you're brain KNOWS that and you study at uni and, therefore it is always aware that there is a possibility you will spend a generous amount of reserves and you're brain is like: I want my reserves, I don't like working on fumes (think of this the following way: in cars, an "alarm" goes off JUST before you reach reserve, meaning you have to go get fuel. same thing with your body except the reserves are bigger). Plus, if your body is constantly getting new glucose while it's working, it doesn't have to go get it from the reserves, therefore consuming energy.
    Hope this was easy to understand...
    Keep up the good work!!
    (Also, the reason you barely got sick was from all the vitamins in you GOOD food!! You do well to your body and it will preform good! As well as those runs in the cold helped you immune system a lot!)
    Sorry about the long comment...

    I moved out of home, across countries, continents and hemispheres to go to uni. I know how hard it is but it gets a bit busier every time you say goodbye. It's great to see you being realistic about this and soon it will become the norm.
    I'm always hungry at uni, I've found that smaller meals help with lots of healthy snacking in between because I can't get by on only three big meals a day! You should see the amount of food I take with my everywhere hahaha. Have you thought of cooking in bulk? I know taking a break is good and important but it must be tiring to do a whole meal everyday!

    yay a new video!! it'd be nice if you could make a video on how you study (not just for alevels), how you motivate yourself to stay on top of your work & how you manage your time! I'm not an early riser and i usually take 1 hour (sometimes 2) after i wake up to feel like i can properly function, so i dont feel as productive :(
    but i get really motivated when i see your videos tho so i will always watch your videos while im eating breakfast!
    stay healthy! xx

    What makes Cambridge work so difficult? Whenever I ask Cambridge students what their "work" consists of, they always tell me about their weekly supervision essays. Is that literally the only piece of independent work you have to do? I'm asking this because no one else has ever mentioned any sort of independent work apart from these 3,500 word weekly essays. Thank you.

    • @rachelgarwood157
      @rachelgarwood157 7 лет назад +1

      It depends on the subject what the work consists of. Generally its difficult simply because of the large quantity of work - whether thats reading, essays or problem sheets.
      I do law at Oxford and workload is similar to Cambridge. 2 essays a week and 1/2 tutorials/supervisions a week for 8 weeks of term, plus lectures. In tutorials you have to present and argue your essay. Each essay requires 2-4 days reading, 1 day writing. I work from about 9 until 9pm (with a few breaks for lunch, gym, socialising).
      Then in Oxford we have exams at the start of every term, so the 6 week holidays are spent revising or catching up on work.

    • @FPSFGaming
      @FPSFGaming 7 лет назад

      Rachel Garwood thanks! It's law that I'm looking at Cambridge for, so this is helpful stuff. What exactly does the "4 days reading" time entail? How many pages would you estimate? Also, did you develop some sort of technique in terms of getting through the meat of text and compressing it to bitesize chunks? Thanks in advance.
