You are living proof of how Cambridge really looks at applicants in an open way. Congratulations! I know you feel angry about your old school, but you also know now how destructive a bad place can be. The same is true for a toxic boss: once you've had one, you know when you have a good one. Good luck at Cam. It is everything it is cracked up to be.

This is the most inspirational thing I've ever seen. I don't even know you, but I'm so proud of what you've done and how you basically said 'fuck you' to everyone who doubted you and got into Cambridge!! When I was in year 4, my primary school teacher told me I would never get into university. I was told WHEN I WAS EIGHT that I wasn't good enough. Now, I'm working my arse off to prove her wrong and get a history degree from Cambridge xx

This is like looking into a mirror!!! I had a really bad experience in year 10 and 11 too. I had no friends, I was bullied, I felt completely isolated and I became depressed because of it. Consequently, I got 9 average gcses all ranging from 9-4. Now I'm doing my A levels and I'm getting As and my biggest dream is to study law and I'd love to go to cambridge but I'm scared they'd reject me because of my gcses....btw I'm from a very low income family in bradford!!!

This honestly is so inspiring to me especially since my whole education has been a bit of a mess. I started to get sick at 14, and my doctors told me ‘it’s in your head’ until the point I had to be hospitalised and have an emergency operation just before the start of A Levels, + my parents got divorced when I first got sick at 14. I got an A, 5 B’s, 1 C and 3 D’s at GCSE which I think was pretty good considering the circumstances. So then I started my A Levels 2 months late after recovering from being seriously unwell and an operation, then to add to the mess of my AS year I was at the Manchester attack and sat exams a few days afterwards and came out with AS grades of B, B, D. Then I moved from my schools sixth form as it was making me miserable to a college but my attendance got super bad cause of mental health mainly from Manchester and they basically kicked me out, unwilling to offer me any kind of help at all, even though I explained my circumstances and was predicted B’s, basically they made no effort to understand lol. And now... I have 3 uni foundation year/integrated degree interviews (still waiting for other responses) including one at Durham and one at Bristol. Basically don’t let shitty teachers, shitty circumstances or shitty schools stop you.

this was so inspirational, i wish i watched this when i was in year 12.
I was bullied really badly in secondary, i had no friends or confidence. i was severely depressed in year 12, i had no friends so i studies really hard and became so alone. i had disordered eating, i would sit in the library for 9 hours without food. I hated myself so much i would eat nothing and then throw up.
I was honestly suicidal when i got AAB for AS. my sixth form was awful, they did nothing to help me. i would spend nearly every lesson in year 13 sobbing and would leave lessons because i would have depressive episodes. at one point, i left school during the morning class change and took the bus to a library because i couldn’t study at school. my head teacher and deputy head teacher drove to my house and told my family i was missing and they were afraid for me because i was “tearful”. they never once asked me if i was okay.
I barely scrapped AAB again for A2 sixth form, i missed my offer for Warwick by two UMS. i was heartbroken, especially because Warwick was my only chance to leave my home and get away from all my problems at home.
my mum wouldn’t let me reapply, she was already unhappy with me applying in the first place. I WISH i just ignored her and reapplied.
instead i spent my gap year trying to recover my mental health and i worked retail. i had no money because my family would make me pay 60% of my pay to them.
i deferred my entry to uni to study Law and now i’m here. i don’t hate my life, i just wish i ignored other people and listened to my soul first. now i’ve moved away from home and finally feel more at peace than before. it’s just so sad because i’ve lost all hope for life, all i can focus on is if i’ll have enough rent for next month. i feel so empty

Wherever you are, I wish you every happiness and opportunity; it's never, ever too late to pursue your dreams and ideals.
You could make a long term plan and work to pursue it; set achievable goals, and try not to let hopelessness consume you.
Although sometimes we feel trapped, there is a world of opportunity out there
Whoever you are, wherever you are, please don't give up on your goals- there is always time, and there is always a way.
Wishing you every possible happiness, and all the best with your mental health,

I was in some similar situation. In some way worse not the situation. I can see your a good kid. But I was a bad and troubled kid. I live in a good area but that's the problem when everyone good and your bad no one wants to guide you. I had zero guidance from anyone and plus I was new to the country. When I came out of school I could not read or write. As a result it took me ages to find or fix or find out what I want to do or can do. As a mature student I realised having the basic skills is so important then you can do anything. As a mature student watching this it gives me hope I was not the only one and sometimes teachers are wrong. They should give up hope and guidance. For instance if you want to do science and your bad at maths. Fix the maths. Fix whatever you need to fix to do what you want. I am glad your speaking up. Your parents must be so proud of you.

I just wanted to say how thankful I am to have found your channel, I feel like it was meant to happen as I am in the same place as you were. I got a few B's,mainly C's and a D at GCSE. EVERYBODY kept telling me I shouldn't even try A levels . Every teacher said I'd fail , and they put me in to do BTEC science. Of course, I hated it and I kept trying to get into A levels, but every college rejected me and said I'll fail. I started to think '' what If they're right?'' until I found BSIX, where i'll get to do the A levels that I want (i'm going back a year too). This has given me so much hope even though everybody has been telling me I won't even pass just because I got C's in the subjects I wanted to do. Thank you!

I'm honestly so inspired . I'm in year 10 and I'm always put down by my teacher. She always reads my work out as something which everyone else shouldn't do. If I ask questions about something she says " oh look who FINALY decided to actually care about their future" in front of the whole class and she insults me quite a lot. Every time I get a bad result she doesn't tell me on how I can improve she just looks down on me . Honestly I want to get a grade 9 on my English lit and prove my English teacher wrong. She doesn't believe in me , for her I'm just an example or a failure and she makes it clear. You've inspired me quite a lot and I revise every single day and im determined to prove everyone who looks down on me wrong. Thank you

I do, however, have circumstances surrounding my grades, but there is no clear defined one for "extenuating circumstances" as its more of an amalgamation of several issues which doesn't help :( just wanted to get it out somewhere as no one will listen, so thanks if your reading this. I started off this video thinking "argh he's just another lazy dumbfuck who's saying that it's everyone else's fault for his failure" but by the end I totally got you. Staying up late and crying when you think you cant finish the essay omg cant tell you how much that happens. I'm so happy you've achieved what you have and you really deserve it. Your old sixth form lost a truly great student with a lot of potential, their fault for not believing in you. Have a beautiful day - peace x

Hi Ibz, I am a parent and I watched :). I watch a lot of these videos about A levels and uni as I have a child and really want to inspire and equip him to succeed by, amongst other things, introducing him to other young people who are on the same journey.... enjoying their present and building their futures. I think that you are all wonderful and generous in sharing your stories and tips. Yours is a beautiful story because it speaks of formidable resilience, creativity, resolve and perseverance. I adore your ability to think over and above other people's opinions of you, and dismiss the unsupportive. So many people, adults and children both, allow themselves to be subsumed and paralysed by other people's poor opinions of them. Keep up your beautiful spirit, this is essential, and it will continue to serve you well through life. I wish you the very best and anticipate that even greater achievements await you through your hard work.

I wanted to thank you so much for putting up this video because in school, I was bullied in year 9 and 10 and those were the darkest times in my life where I had lost all confidence in myself and thought that I was never going to make it anywhere because I couldn't get the grades that I actually wanted so I want to thank you for being such an inspiration to me and I hope that everything goes well for you!

I have just started at my schools 6 form with a depressing start. The schools head of 6 form wouldn't allow me to take English Literature because I got a low B grade instead of a high B grade...like wtf. I had to take English Language instead which isn't that bad but obviously I am not happy with it. They legit screwed me over because other people could take that subject with the same grade as me because their teacher approved for them to take it whereas my teacher said that I am too thick to take it (essentially what she was saying). This has left me broken for a while, and after my friend told me about this channel and your situation you went through with similar GCSE grades to mine and also great A-Level results I feel more confident to get the grades to go to a university like Cambridge or Oxford. Thanks for the encouragement

I'm so glad I found this video!! I'm 33 and studying an access course with the hope of going to Uni in 2019. I messed up my GCSE and AS Levels and dropped out after AS due to ill mental health, unsettled at home and I just wanted to forget it all and go to work. I moved out and worked in Claire's :) Haha. Left school with 10 GCSEs A-C (one A, one B, one D (Maths!) and the rest Cs). AS's were C's and one B. I could have worked so much harder and got the results I wanted but I threw my hands up and now, 17 years later...I'm back hitting the books. Fingers crossed for me - I'm applying to KCL and Manchester :)

omg ! This honestly such a boost ! I went to a top school, where I was predicted all Bs and As for GCSE, but when results day came my grades were Bs and Cs and were not enough to stay in that top school. So i found a different sixth form, but still the fact that i 'downgraded' made me feel low about my self. Now im not sure if my dream is cambridge but i really hope i work hard to get As and A*s in my A levels JUST LIKE YOU DID ! love x

You might not be reading this, but as a 30 y/o, I want to tell you that you are indeed a genius, becuase you have a the resilience and the courage to overcome the shit you put up with. That really is the sign of a genius. I would trade my first class degree as well as my right kidney for that kind of motivation. I am serious.
I didn't have the courage to burst out of my family to try my hand at oxbridge because my family had a business and I really felt they need me there than out there, so I never knew whether I would have got in there or not. Very rarely now, but every now and again I think what if I tried harder.
Please keep pushing forward, you are the type that can reach success if you really wanted to.
