    It is so nice to see Luke's parents, the present Earl and Countess of Sandwich, telling us of some of the important history of Mapperton. They appear to be quite devoted to each other, and each has a great part of in the telling of the stories, and are a joy to watch.

    Such an enjoyable tour by the Earl and Countess. Their former bedroom, "the coldest room in the house". So nice to learn about the "traveling plasterers", over mantels, a pendant ceiling, hidden freizes, favorite pieces of furniture and the restoration of chairs. Nothing like having family talk about their own history, their former home and Mapperton.. They are imbued with the spirit of hundreds of years of collecting, cherishing. A tour of the family china would be lovely. I feel very welcomed and will look forward to more from them.

    These two are endearing. So much knowledge on the place. I'd be lost there...could sit for an hour just staring at the door latch! My gosh there's not much made of quality to last a decade anymore. Never mind centuries. At the same token I feel their sadness at the cost it would take to properly repair all that needs repaired, watching these treasure desintigrate with time..even before their eyes!

    I love listening to the Earl and countess they're so knowledgeable of everything without a "cheat sheet" to help them remember. (Either that or the editing is just that good). I like the end where the countess says this chair is quite comfortable, as a matter of fact I might just sit here for a while longer and then smiles. I giggled a bit.
    Thank you for this tour, and yes I would love to have a video on the tea cup collection.

    That video will be a treasure for the rest of our time on earth. People will know more about Mapperton. Recently, we’ve been going back through old videos and watching our family from the late 50s and 60s forward and it’s such a treasure to see!!!
    Also, maybe you can check in the US for that material because that velvet could be laser cut now and probably a lot cheaper to purchase enough to have it covered. Have your professionals to do it, that would be a great surprise for your mother-in-law .

    The two of you make an excellent team for sharing the art and architecture and furnishings of the house! Please more in this type of detail and personal stories. Fascinating stories. i would love to hear the details on each cup and cup and saucer in the China cabinet. I also feel that most families don't recognize or appreciate what they have, especially now in a "disposable" age where furniture is not built to last at all.

    • @denisecampbell6736
      @denisecampbell6736 2 года назад

      Exactly!! I was a late in life surprise to my Parents, but my Dad loved History & Antiques. He made I realized exactly what certain items were & why we had them. He adored China & collected several Dishes sets & Tea Cups & Saucers. We live in NE Ontario, Canada & were on our way back down to the SE Town I went to College in for my Seond Year. Now all we have to do is see a Sign for Yard/Garage Sale & we stop.
      Now I collect China that has Roses on them & had noticed this gorgeous Cup & Saucer in a Sky Blue w/Yellow Roses on it. I seriously though of buying it, but I was going back to College & where on Earth would I be able to keep it from getting broken, right? So I put it back down & moved to another Table. Just before we left, Dad called me over & said he’d noticed I’d been interested in that set. As I said, yeah I was was, but w/College & everything, I just couldn’t do it. He asked me if I turned it over to look if there was a Maker’s Mark on it. I hadn’t, so he turned it over to show me...
      A Made in Occupied Japan making on both the Cup & Saucer.
      Dad then proceeded to give a bit of a disgusted sigh that was followed w/, “I’ve taught you everythng I know about Dishes & you still know nothing!!”
      😊
      He’s been gone four years now & there are times when I miss him more than others. Whenever I see anything to do w/Fine China is one of those times, as I KNOW Dad would’ve been drooling over that Meissen. 😊. It’s so sad most of the current Generation, unless they were as lucky as me to have the Parents I did, know next to nothing about what they have or how to care for them. That’s what makes these Videos so very important. To keep the knowledge going on & the stories alive. 😊
