This is the song I turn to most often, whenever I'm feeling down or insecure. It's such a strangely sensitive, touching song --and then it's funny to boot, making it an even better pick-me-up. Thank you, Tim
i like how he starts from the universe and works his way down to his individual essence, rather than the conventional way of building from simple to complex - he is an absolute delight
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. When he says "God forbid I hurt somebody," and "I spend so much time hating it [his body] but it never says a bad word against me," I all but break into tears. If you knew me, you'd understand how powerful that is. I just want to thank him for gifting the world with this song.
Beautiful.... brought tears to my eyes and i have no idea why... its just the conviction he sung it with makes you feel like your worth something as little as you are in the grand scheme... TIM MINCHIN thankyou
Absolutely love it!!! Right now (through grief) pulling me through!! As a classically trained pianist trying so hard - Tim :} - to work out the gorgeous transitions and keep accompanying with you in my lounge on my piano. Healing to say the least. Thanks so much
It's incredible how this comes from him, a song that actually makes people in his audience cry. He likes them leaving thinking he's deep...this song makes sure that happens. Truly great song.
There seems to be some confusion over the lyrics, "the force created by it's spin is the force that stops the chaos flooding in." I think he's referring to the electromagnetic field created by the rotation of the iron core of the planet. It creates a shield that repels solar radiation and enables life to exist on Earth. At least that's how I understand his meaning.
I cant get enough of Tim Minchin. I've only seen him in concert once and I really really want to see him come back to the Seattle area again. We love him up here!
Tim Minchin has found a way to find a fine line of balance of the combination between simple humour and sophisticated insight. Beautiful. This song is amazing, and so is he.
Tim Minchin is a musical comic genius, but this song proves he is capable of so much more as well. I saw one of his stand up gigs on tv a while back and he played this at the end and it had me in tears! Can't wait to see him later this year, will be the highlight of my....life, probably!
i am extremely impressed that he manages to create such an ENORMOUS sound and presence with only his voice and piano. the music is beautiful and the lyrics are just brilliant. he is truly one of the greater talents on this planet
I love this song, but at the same time I fear for the day when the lighters and cell-phone lights come up as it's playing, and all the irony will vanish. Poo on that.
he is absolutely crying and it is genuine and very beautiful - i am honored to have the priviledge to peer into the soul of such a genius.....ty mr. minchin
Turned it into a love song thing... not as good as the original though Tim Minchin This is my heart And I can feel it It's tearing apart Tearing apart for you And it beats faster and pounds aloud When I see your face around And I wonder if you know I care And here's the really weird thing I’m gonna tell you what I think I’m gonna tell you how I feel You are my guy And you’re fine I want to give you the vast majority of my time You’re not perfect But you’re mine You’re not perfect But You're mine
Loved watching this after seeing this performed in Albert Hall with the Heritage Orchestra. An amazingly beautiful song performed by a genuine genius. Love it and thank you for sharing :-)
Tim Michin's Talent is so unreal, he has this amazing vocabulary and can be funny and inspirating at the same time, which is a rare thing for Comedians, but Tim pulls it off perfectly. Today's Musical comedians just go for Funny but Tim can be inspirating by relating to the people so it's not Boring. Tim's a sight to behold, let's cherish it!
Until yesterday I've never heard of Tim, but I have to say he is just brilliant! A true artist, and a great songwriter. I love all his work, and this song is one of his best.
Woke up on New Years DAy 2011 hearing this song in my head. I love it. He's a brilliant musician and so clever in his lyricism. ..and cute and adorable too.
this is probably one of the most evocative songs i have ever heard and still manages to be social satire and humorous at the same time; on word: AMAZING!!! All hail Tim Minchin!!!
I love this guy. He combines brilliant comedy with even MORE brilliant music. This song makes me laugh and cry at the same time. Only Timmy Minchin can do that... great song man. thx for the upload!!!
You know people always say things like "Oh i love it soooo much!", "best song ever" but I really mean it from the bottom of my heart when I say: One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
I think for Tim Minchin there is only one thing to say - hes a living legend. And so not appreciated as much as he should be, writing and listening has also brought me too tears. This is Tim Minchin. Its not good, its perfect.
After having seen so many of his other videos, I just stumbled on this, and it was so beautifully different to the others. Nice to have something sad and semi-serious in his repertoire. Amazing man.
The man is hilarious and a true musical talent. This is like the other side of the coin to his uproarious songs that are beyond hilarious and poignantly musical -- beyond musical and poignantly hilarious. Thank you, Tim.
This truly exemplifies the power of Tim; a comedy song with a truly incisive, profound and life affirming message hiding beneath the surface. Its not perfect, but it is truly amazing.
Damn it Tim! U sure know how to nail emotion into ur songs,im a 33 year old man and every time I hear this I feel like crying. I dont know if its written in aminor key or if its the fact I can relate to the lyrics so much but i love this song. I dont waste time pondering whether the stats he mentions are correct I appreciate it for its musical genius and emotional lyrics which is has in abundance. All the best Tim,keep up the good work!
I love this guy, I watched one of his shows on E4 a few months back because nothing else was on and I was so glad I did. His songs are so true and I love his vulnerability. Also what I love about most of his music is the underlying meaning and the fact it's supposed to be funny but you know deep inside he is sad.
this song is just incredibe! especially after you see the full show, him ending with this song just brings you to joyful tears! Tim Minchin for the universe!!!
An amazing pianist and a brilliant comedian, I can't think of anyone else who does it like Tim Minchin. Can't wait to see him tomorrow in Adelaide. woohoo!
I love this song *so* much... *especially* so on those days when I AM feeling like the smallest doll inside the Russian babushka dolls! Mr. Minchin lifts my spirits with the perfect mix of emotion, perspective & humour. Don't think I could ever say thank you enough!
Even though I care for those "pedantry"-type folks...you're right, this is the right audience. We appreciate your calm, caring efforts to improve our understanding of the world.
Oh my Gosh this song is actually heartbreaking. It's so true aswell. He's funny and sad at the same time. Aww wow. All his stuff is amazing but this is definitely my favourite. He is one talented guy. :) Great video! x
This is the most serious song that I have heard him sing. I mean, it's got his regular humor in there, but it's much more tucked away. This one sounded very sincere; I liked it.
I wish I could give the video descrpition 99999 thumb ups! Well said, dude. Tim Minchin is a huge inspiration to all struggling musicians around the world, especially those who appreciate genius comedy. thanks for uploading!!
Brought a tear to my eye, it did. Just goes to show what an amazing musician he is; he can have me laughing my arse off one second and nearly bawling the next.
the man walks a schizophrenic tightrope between anger and fragility whist delivering a lethal blow of eccentric comedy, brilliant muscianship and endearing character.
Thanks fir posting. I like the humility of Minchin in this song. My first thought was, it's so beautiful, it would be perfect without the little joke verses; but then, if it was different than what it was, I guess it wouldn't be his. Yah, this guy knows what he's doing.
Discovered this guy last night on E4, he's a complete genius and so underrated, he's also just about the most unbelievably amazing pianist I have ever, ever seen. I'm making it my duty this week to let everyone know about him.
Holy shit... first time I have heard this song. I am used to his usually comedy.. this was .. beautiful. My eyes actually watered. If any person can do anything like this, just one time, only one time, you know there is something special about them. He makes you laugh and enjoy life, and then writes this. What a great artist, really, really great.
This song is so moving it inspired me to write a version encapsulating my own world. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of other people have, too. I kinda wish we could collect all our filk versions and somehow present them as a tribute of self-awareness and acceptance that Tim inspires.
I think Tim lives in London and he's referring to Gordon Brown who was prime minister from 2007-2010 and was known for his huge eyebrows. This song is a hauntingly beautiful.
Very odd! I commented along the lines of: you're lucky you've heard him, welcome to the wacky world of Tim. PS, I love him, it's 4 am here in Australia, and I'm sick, and this song made me feel better :)
agreed he comes up with some awsome lyrics. he also delivers a great message... i havnt ever gone to a supermarket without a canvas bag since i heard that song!=D
Hi! The show Tim's playing on in a lot of my videos was a variety show called "The Sideshow", which was axed after two seasons (I think) thanks to a rather bad timeslot (10:30 on saturday nights). Paul McDermott was the host of the show, as it was from his company "GNW productions." Nowadays he hosts a new version of Good News Week instead. Us Aussies do love a good laugh with good music - as well as DAAS from the past and Tim now, we've got Tripod - like a modern day DAAS.
Thursday 23 July 2009 = Tim Minchin Live on e4 at half ten. I know I'm gonna be there lol Also, to the person who posted the video, I very much agree with what you said to the angry folk who post rude things here, so well said. Go Tim! You rock, sir!! =D
Best thing Minchin ever did. Truly beautiful. Poignant, humble, and tinged with that lovely bit of humor that makes things feel okay.
This is the song I turn to most often, whenever I'm feeling down or insecure.
It's such a strangely sensitive, touching song --and then it's funny to boot, making it an even better pick-me-up.
Thank you, Tim
I am so in love with this song. Tim Minchin amazes me. He can go from a 7 minute song about cheese to the beauty of this and White Wine in the Sun.
The one verse about the body actually made me feel better about myself... Thanks Tim Minchin
It may not be the perfect favorite song, but right now it's mine.
easily the greatest 240p video on youtube.
i like how he starts from the universe and works his way down to his individual essence, rather than the conventional way of building from simple to complex - he is an absolute delight
I love the music of Tim. This is one of my favorites.
Absolutely Brilliant. I have turned so many people onto Tim Minchin with just this one song. Thanks for your dedication to this incredible man
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
When he says "God forbid I hurt somebody," and "I spend so much time hating it [his body] but it never says a bad word against me," I all but break into tears. If you knew me, you'd understand how powerful that is. I just want to thank him for gifting the world with this song.
This is possibly one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
Thanks so much
Love and empathy from a Canadian Widow who knows all too much about grief. And about how music can heal and lessen the pain.
I love tim minchin too. He's truly a genius.
"this is my house, and I live in it, it's made of cracks and photographs" - that's just poetry. Can't stop listening to this. One of Tim's best songs!
I want to see him live sooooo badly!!!!!
It's incredible how this comes from him, a song that actually makes people in his audience cry. He likes them leaving thinking he's deep...this song makes sure that happens. Truly great song.
There seems to be some confusion over the lyrics, "the force created by it's spin is the force that stops the chaos flooding in." I cant get enough of Tim Minchin. I've only seen him in concert once and I really really want to see him come back to the Seattle area again. We love him up here!
this guy, i swear. after seeing his reaction to being called a rock god at 7:02, he will be forever endeared to my heart. it made me want to know him.
Tim Minchin has found a way to find a fine line of balance of the combination between simple humour and sophisticated insight. Beautiful. This song is amazing, and so is he.
His lyrics are so smart 👌👌👌
I woke up feeling terrible the other day and knew I had to listen to this song. It put a smile back on my face. So grateful for Tim Minchin!
Bloody love my fellow British Australians!
Tim Minchin is a musical comic genius, but this song proves he is capable of so much more as well. I saw one of his stand up gigs on tv a while back and he played this at the end and it had me in tears!
Can't wait to see him later this year, will be the highlight of my....life, probably!
Why is it that the "reply" button only shows up on some of the comments on this page?
some people haven't switch over to Google+ so you can't reply
Thomas Davneport Because some people turn off replies I think.
i am extremely impressed that he manages to create such an ENORMOUS sound and presence with only his voice and piano. the music is beautiful and the lyrics are just brilliant. he is truly one of the greater talents on this planet
I love this song, but at the same time I fear for the day when the lighters and cell-phone lights come up as it's playing, and all the irony will vanish. Poo on that.
he is absolutely crying and it is genuine and very beautiful - i am honored to have the priviledge to peer into the soul of such a genius.....ty mr. minchin
Turned it into a love song thing... not as good as the original though Tim Minchin
This is my heart
And I can feel it
It's tearing apart
Tearing apart for you
And it beats faster and pounds aloud
When I see your face around
And I wonder if you know I care
And here's the really weird thing
I’m gonna tell you what I think
I’m gonna tell you how I feel
You are my guy
And you’re fine
I want to give you the vast majority of my time
You’re not perfect
But you’re mine
You’re not perfect
But You're mine
Tim Minchin is the most creative pianist/composer that i have been around in the past fifty years.... completely amazing!
Loved watching this after seeing this performed in Albert Hall with the Heritage Orchestra. An amazingly beautiful song performed by a genuine genius. Love it and thank you for sharing :-)

Man this dude is amazing,
he's got good vocals,
brilliant on the piano,
and a bloody genius.
Tim is a brilliant artist
Woke up on New Years DAy 2011 hearing this song in my head. I love it. He's a brilliant musician and so clever in his lyricism. ..and cute and adorable too.
I had somehow never heard of this guy up until an hour ago... I've been missing so much! He is awesome-tastic!
this is probably one of the most evocative songs i have ever heard and still manages to be social satire and humorous at the same time; on word: AMAZING!!!
All hail Tim Minchin!!!

How can anyone say anything negative about him???? Tim is one of the most impressive entertainers I have ever watched on here.
I think for Tim Minchin there is only one thing to say - hes a living legend. And so not appreciated as much as he should be, writing and listening has also brought me too tears. This is Tim Minchin. Its not good, its perfect.

ive just discovered tim, and have spent all afternoon on youtube avoiding work. This song is his best.
The man is hilarious and a true musical talent. This is like the other side of the coin to his uproarious songs that are beyond hilarious and poignantly musical -- beyond musical and poignantly hilarious.

I rarely comment on videos, but i had to say this is beautiful. Tim captures human nature fantastically. Well done sir.
I can't stop listening to this wonderful song...
It's so inspiring, and Tim's just so talented and awesome and genius...
So awesome! By far my favorite Minchin tune. He is a truly amazing vocalist...and he's flippin' hilarious!
I saw it too, last night. One of my favourite episodes of the show. You're very welcome.
Went to Tim's concert tonight in Melbourne - sensational as usual. Now he's 35 years and 5 months!
There is only one word.... WOW!! This is an awesome song. Love it. Tim is my new favorite.
Just listened to this on Comedy Proms - fantastic - thank you. You have gained another fan.
Janet Morgan
A combination of humor, and great meaningful lyrics.
Bravo sir, Bravo.
I love this song *so* much... *especially* so on those days when I AM feeling like the smallest doll inside the Russian babushka dolls! Mr. Minchin lifts my spirits with the perfect mix of emotion, perspective & humour. Don't think I could ever say thank you enough!

Tim Minchin is absolutely brilliant!!!! Love this song and every other one he's written!
Sheer genius. In the most literal sense that I can convey, this is sheer genius.
Oh my Gosh this song is actually heartbreaking. It's so true aswell.
He's funny and sad at the same time. Aww wow.

Dont worry Tim, you're about as close to perfect as one can get. All respect in the world for this man.

the look in his eyes at 5:24 is amazing, this is one of my favourite songs of his. Absolute Brilliance
This song is so moving it inspired me to write a version encapsulating my own world. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of other people have, too. I kinda wish we could collect all our filk versions and somehow present them as a tribute of self-awareness and acceptance that Tim inspires.
This song touches Tim as much as it touches everyone else. In the last verse he is close to tears.
I think this is the only song that makes me cry and happy at the same time... Genius
This is one of the most feel-good songs I've ever heard - so gently touching. ^_^
this song is so beautiful!
listening to it just makes me want to sing along and be happy
Love this song so much (:

His expression is so honest and intense toward the end of the song, I almost cried
I discovered him at the same time as you! He is amazing!!
I think Tim lives in London and he's referring to Gordon Brown who was prime minister from 2007-2010 and was known for his huge eyebrows. This song is a hauntingly beautiful.

Genius lyrics. great song. A friend sent me here - would you believe it? - I'd never heard this guy sing before.
Now you have! Aren't you lucky! Welcome to the wacky world of Tim.
Whoever you are, your comment disappeared so that by the time I got here, there was nothing to see. (weird)
Very odd! I commented along the lines of: you're lucky you've heard him, welcome to the wacky world of Tim. PS, I love him, it's 4 am here in Australia, and I'm sick, and this song made me feel better :)
