a bunch of mates just got me into dota 2, and for a league of legends player im enjoying it a lot and this guide helped me out a lot with mars
You need to click spear and arena at the exact same place. That way you can reliably spear first and arena after.
I didn't know this escape arena tactic. Really useful.
The trick to hit spear into arena consistently is to aim both spells at the exact same point, ~450 units( Luna with dragon lance attack range, for reference) away from Mars. Use one after the other instantly, no timing required. Quick cast on arena helps a lot
it's cast range is 400, congratulation, you just missed every arena combo.

imagine being luna as ranged hero, then there is mk with penta edge
some heroes can right click through arena from the outside but it has to do with how their attack point is attached to their hero model so a hero like NP who reaches far out in his attack animation can hit through it
I've learned that if BSJ makes a hero guide on an op hero, we're soon to see a patch nerfing him

@@NFGDota True he's got a massive pick rate in pubs and pro dota but sits around ~46% WR in Immortal Brackets and consistently around that area in lower brackets.

i played a game of mars after a very long time. i missed a lot of arena spears, but it didnt matter and i just won. this guy is too op
I would also like to add that arena doesn't trap litteraly flying hero, such As ww during artic burn and NS during dark assenscion, meaning that you can't spear those heroes onto arena walls or walls in general. There might be others but those 2 are the one that i remember the most
Funny how you can still spear them into the wall XD. NS can fly over it. But do bat and WW actually able to do the same?
@@parham1023 Bat can't fly over arena. And if you try to spear ww and ns while they "took off" to a wall you won't be' able to, you can only spear them to trees.

I usually build mars with Blink dagger, bkb then upgrade the dagger to overwhelming for additional slow after jumping in, after that I usually build refresher or shivas or ac.
the spear into arena combo entirely depends on how fast you cast the arena after spear, there is lenience in where you cast the arena but you need to do it asap. its usually as soon as mars' spear is going in a forward motion
Which is why you are supposed to arena -> shield crush for the slow to setup the spear. However most people do the combo wrong. Fun build is arcane blink arena spear though, that shit is almost instant, extremely hard to dodge. Also remember the speed you cast arena if you spear first is not as important as the placement, correctly placing Arena will always stop the hero from missing the wall.

Mars is my favorite hero in DOTA. His voicelines are insanely funny, and he looks like a cool (yet nasty) person to have a beer with. Anyways, my winrate with him is atrocious (40% with 175 games), but surely this will help me (hopefully) lol thanks BZM dopplegänger

Hey BSJ, the circle indicator shows up with quick-cast if you hold the button down! I just tested it, but you might have to change quick-cast to "cast on release" instead of on press if I remember correctly.

Yes please, can people stop thinking quickcast doesn't allow you to see the indicators? You just need to set it on key release and it works like normal cast but without needing to click

God tier guide. Every Mars guide is min 500 MMR for me. If I start losing games I just come and watch again. Then, I suddenly start playing good again. I guess we develop bad habits and we lose sight of the high level strat
Usually happens to me after a loss or 2. I start "fixing" stuff instead of steadily continuing to try and improve. :)

What are good alternatives when you have deso buyers on your team?
conceptualize based on the game. ac, satanic, strength blink, depending on the game u could consider things like vessel, halberd, even orchid these days i feel like. i didn't even watch the video yet but i think the answer is just going to boil down to 'whatever you want that you think makes sense in that specific game' regardless.
Great content put forth, great editing. HOWEVER, I want to echo complaints I saw below. At this point your mic quality is pretty ehhhhhhh for a 40 min guide. Please look into something that can sound better, audio is more important than video quality and you are basically clipping your mic out every single sentence.

Ya. Mars seems really reliable. I seem to struggle with Phantom Lancer a lot for some reason eventhough the bulwark with deso usually clears all his illusions so I usually ban him. Next is Riki. Riki counters Mars too hard.

hello, to land the spear into arena, you'll need to be positioned farther away from the hero, for some reason.
it doesn't matter as long as the hero gets speared, they end up in the same place. trick is to cast spear by clicking in the same spot at which you will then cast arena to save on mouse travel time. so the hero can be on top of mars and get clipped by the spear or be right on the arena border getting speared into it at the same instant the wall activates and it will work when timed correctly.

Personally, I don't think spending 1400 gold is what you do to catch up and stay relevant. If you're having a bad game and need to catch up, 1400 gold feels like 4000.

bTW For the Arena combo it's all about the cast range not the timing , to work your cursor must be at max Arena cast range after blink .You can even shift que the spells .

I think you might be underestimating the additional points in Bulwark a bit, as well as the +10% damage reduction talent.
With level 1 Bulwark, you have 40% damage reduction, which is the same as taking only 60% of the damage. With level 4 bulwark, you take only 30% of the damage. In other words, the physical damage you take from the front is halved with those extra points in Bulwark.
With t he level 20 talent, that goes down to taking only 20% of the damage. Thus, the talent alone is an extra 33% physical damage reduction from the front.

Mars is THE most picked hero in Divine and Immortal this month. That means it's getting first picked and getting extremely hard countered, players know how to deal with it, players with little understanding or experience on the hero are picking it up, and yet it still has a 48% winrate. Bordering on broken IMO (Edit: i guess broken should be defined as having >50% WR with an extremely high pick rate so Mars might not be broken in the true sense but he's getting there). Popularity matters more than winrate anyway: some heroes only get picked in the best games so they have great winrates, yet are so unpopular and not regarded as broken because there are so few good games for them and they consume the later (higher impact in pubs) picks in drafting.
