I think this engine has a distinct “knocking” problem and warrants diagnosis.. before I’d consider acquiring it ! I have a 1986 V4 OMC which does NOT have that knocking sound …

I agree the Knocking sound was very concerning. I spent a long time reading forums and tid bits of information of things to check and try. Everything has been adjusted/checked, and cleaned since. With a higher pitch prop installed and not being so aggressive with throttle cutoff (high rate of deceleration), there is no longer a problem. There are a couple of other videos on my channel that have the engine running better. Thank you for your input. :D

Good motors... just make sure you use non ethanol gas and you'll be happy with it!

nothing wrong with up to 10% ethanol if its less than 3 week old! problem is most dont get used much and still use last season crappy fuel without running synthetic premix fuel through it in the fall

    Knocking sounds a bit iffy

I heard the sound during test run as well. I had my concerns until I googled around to find that it can be common on those types of motors on quick engine decel depending on prop's and such. Prop has been changed and same for gear fluids. Not a common sound anymore unless severe let off of throttle. Just what I've noticed and have found online.

Would the lower unit on this motor work on a evinrude 150 intruder?

Apologies for the delayed response. I believe "Yes, same lower unit on 150/175 V6 OMC outboards"

i think hes got the cam roller up against the throttle cam, making it sneeze at idle by hanging throttle plates open. smooths out when off idle. hard to hear with that terrible microphone!

Thank you for your Input. There were a few items that needed to be worked, lubricated, and cleaned. Also clearing out the carbs and a thorough heat cycle the engine cleared up with use. I agree the microphone is terrible. I was using an off-brand Go-pro style camera in a water case so everything sounds off or amplified. Thank you for watching.
