  • In order to find the proper, recommended TV height, you have to follow specific formulas, consult experts in interior design, acoustics, and home theater...
That's all good and well, but what happens when YOUR needs don't line up with recommendations?
Your needs may be exactly what's recommended by the experts. Case closed.
    Honestly, I wish I hadn't listened.
That's because my needs are different than the guidelines.
I know that I'm not the only one who likes to recline while watching TV or movies, but for me it's more of a necessity than the general population.
Post concussion syndrome is weird in many ways, but my necessity to recline isn't because it hurts my head, but my entire body hurts when I'm vertical.
Nobody wants to sit in the front of the movie theater, it hurts your neck. That's because your head is tilted up, almost like you're looking at the sky, when seated in typical movie theater seats.
When you browse the internet for recommendations on TV heights, they're going to be pretty close to the same thing. Comfort isn't usually the motivation.
I've had people comment that my TV is too high, too low. too big, too small, why don't I have a projector, you name it, people have commented about it. Everyone has an opinion, and I genuinely consider them all.
If I had done what I recommended in this video, which was to get into a comfortable position, and then see where my eyes naturally landed, I would've mounted my TV much higher, and just dealt with the backlash from people saying it's "not correct".
It's a matter of being physically uncomfortable, or getting comments, comments that I got already for one reason or another already.
That's really the point, it's your TV. Take people's advice into consideration, including mine, and then *do what's right for YOU*.
It's good to take everyone's comfort in the home into consideration, but the important part is not to feel bad if you need to mount your TV higher or lower to meet your personal needs.
I basically had to be forced into a situation just to realize that my needs were not being met well with my TV height previously. My neck is VERY appreciative of the fireplace!
Frankly, it's also really is nice to watch a movie or some television with a fire going. Yeah it makes a little noise, but not enough to be distracting in a bad way. It's actually a nice combination on a cold night.
How high is your TV? Was this good advice, or nonsense?
Let me know what you think below!
