- This is my 1986 gmc SWB 3/4 ton truck with a 2006 8100 vortec and Allison 6 speed tranny. Also has a 14 bolt rear end. I've been playing with my HP Tuners and have managed 14-15 mpg! Any way this is a tire burning Jose!!
Nice truck. For others looking to swap into a square body, you can retain AC and avoid cutting the frame by using a Topkick/Express van bracket.
part number for this bracket?
@@Petrella82 part number?
Putting the ECM under the battery isn't probably the best idea as if you battery leaks well I think you know where I'm going with this. Bad ass truck all the same though. Keep up the good work. 🙂
good job good looking truck also. fixing to do the same but with a 97 swb reg cab
been looking for video of 8.1 with billyboat mufflers.
exhaust sounds great
WHAT TUNE did you use for 14mpg? it's amazing
really clean install. I have a 1978 k20 that I'm going to take the 1991 caprice police motor out and drop one of these in. cant wait. motor will be here soon then the start begins.
FYI - ORD now makes a bbc xmember... WOAH 15mpg!!!! I'm hearing 9mpg all the time... trailering or not... enjoy that good gas mileage...
That’s badass bro
sounds like a chicken when you start it
Turkey..
Just needs a cam and port those factory heads 🙌🏽
Frickin awesome man!!🤘🤘🤘😎
Are you running the stock exhaust manifolds on it? I heard they don’t fit inside those frame rails!
Nice build man, I see you turbocharged this on the related videos and I'm going there next. With how good that sounds N/A you almost hate to quiet it down with a turbo.... almost.
Also I'm pretty sure your truck just ate a chicken @ 1:50.
lol that was our pet turkey at the time..
how u hook those big aluminum oil lines up trying to put it in my 99 obs tahoe
How much of the frame did you cut for the ac? Can you take a closer picture?
ORD makes a BBC replacement member... I bought one of them
very good
correction guy 14 bolt rear Dana 90 is actually a 1 ton differential the 12bolt Dana 60 is a 3/4 ton 2500 rear differential and the dana44 is a 10bolt 1/2ton rear differential thought id let you know I'm into 4x4 trucks so been thru a differential or two lol I like keeping the 10-12 bolt differentials when I can for maximum ground clearance I just need them up with 40spline axles and Yukon or superior ring and pinions and the same on the carrier bearings I add a solid locker by either ARB & Auburn even Detroit lockers work well I like air locks but solid never fails spools are great as well for 33-38"tires so its all around whatever ball park your playing in mostly
correction there fellar, 10 and 12 bolt rear ends didn't come out in 8 lug.. this is a semi float 10.5" ring gear (14 actual bolts holding the cover on) rear end..
+Jake Wells I never said 12 or 14 bolts were all 8lugz cuz I've seen many 12 bolts have 6&8 lugs I've seen some 14 bolts converted to 6 lug to
well I guess I don't know what your correcting comment is for then.. I have a corporate 14 bolt 3/4 ton semi float axle, 9.5" ring gear rearend in this truck.. the corporate 14 bolt 10.5" ring gear, full float axles came out in in 3/4 ton trucks as well as one ton single wheel trucks. the dually is the dana 90 which also has a 14 bolt cover on it. the corporate rear ends and dana rears on different manufacturers..
10 and 12 bolts are GM... and a Dana 44 and a GM 10 bolt are two completely different things

hi i'm doing the same swap to my el camino 1978 but i have the wiring harnesses but ends ups on a square box with 6 or 8 cables on it that belongs to the old fuse box of the truck before and i dont know how to hook up the 12v power source from the ignition key and the gages for temp, oil, and atl. well done appriciate any helps thanks nelson
how bad was the computer stuff swapping over, doesn't seem like it was a big problem just throwing those in and does your instrument cluster work accurately? ive got this drivetrain and I want to do this swap in a rv I have that doesn't have a computer or maybe throw it in a cherry 86 like yours since im a fan of the body style
Hi Jake did you ever mess around with getting the backup lights to work on the 6 speed setup? curious if you did how did you do it? I am doing a similar swap in a 64 gmc 3/4 ton?ThanksSean
@kx519 Thanks alot! still a work in progress tho!!
Jake Wells bought a 2001 2500hd with 8.1l / Allison 4x4 ,swapping into 1989 cc Chevy dually , can it be done ?
Nice swap but how do you do it with the smoke check or probably you don’t live in California
Cali boo!
wat did u do with the oil coolant lines
How does the transmission computer integrate with the engine computer? Or is it stand alone?
Did that thing just drop right in on factory big block motor mounts or did you have to make custom ones?
I am trying to put this same engine in a Monte Carlo I have the computer and wiring but do not know what to do to make it work any help please
Wonder if that 8100 will fit in a 86 s10...
Sooo bad ass!!
What kind of motor mounts did you use?
Which motor mounts did you use with the swap?
Used the clam shells from the old 350. They bolted right on the 8.1
what wheels are those?yeah, i'm looking at swaping an 8.1L into our 1995 suburban.
Interesting... What does the aftermarket support look like with these? Are they similar to ls swaps like say in mustangs etc? Im interested in swapping one of these into something small and forced induction for a drag effort..
+stevenminix Aftermarket is pretty mall, but not nonexistent. Lots of parts from the marine applications of these motors.. i believe a company called Raylar makes some? Its a hybrid of an old fashioned big block and an LS... so while some ports out of those engines will work (BB exhuast for example), things like cams and heads are unique
hey! how did you know about me burning them tires?
Hey Jake, was that transmission factory mated to the 8.1? If so, what years did they come like that?
mowinman2 yes. All years of the 8.1
My donor didn't come with cats what do you do about them?
PLEASE tell me what u are running exactly on ur exhaust
Can u make the stand alone harness just like a ls?
Got damn 😳
nice shoulda put a big cam
How difficult is this swap
What year is the motor?doing the swap in a k5 and have same questions
2006
How much did you spend. On the projet bro i whant to swap a set like this on my 87 camaro rs
julian hernandez check out the 3rd gen camaro forum, there's write ups. From what I've read, you'll have a hard time finding headers that work without too much fabrication. Also, your stock v6 brakes can suspension won't be able to handle a big block very well
bairdandrew77 thanks for the info ...
can u go carb and intake on 03-06 8.1?
You can, but i've only seen Dart make an intake, and it is around 500$
I HAVE A 1989 CHEVY C50 WITH A 5.7 350 WHY PUT A BIG TRUCK MOTOR IN A SMALL TRUCK
Why not?
Cuz merica son
Looks factory
Did you cut the floor for trans clearance?
yes I put a 4x4 hump in there.. and I believe I added a inch to that
was the 4x4 hump wider or just taller?
i am doing an 85 3/4 to burban right now
+Jeremy Adams taller. is your burb 4x4? if so prolly just drop cross member enough to clear
no 2 wheel drive
“15 mpg” lol i never laughed so hard in my life
ACDC5540 your comment.. I never laughed so hard in my life.. 🙄 what the fuck do you know... Is this your truck.? Did you check the mileage? No?? Then shut the fuck up ignorant ass hat!
Best I ever seen was on the highway with the zf transmission and it did 14 mpg thats with 373 gears. I owned two 8.1's one was a suburban that got around 12-13 had the 4L85e and a 2500 that had the Allison 1000 it maybe got 12 on a good day, towing it was around 9-10 MPG depending on weight. Still my favorite V8 gas engine regardless. Will be putting one in my 72 gmc shortly TH400 with GV unit.
It ain’t that far off. I have a 2001 3500 dually with the 8.1 and I’m averaging 12-13 around the city. Keep your foot out of it you’ll be fine. Highway I get into the 15-17s depending how fast I cruise. This is all through an elm327 Bluetooth dongle and torque pro. Not just coming up with numbers out of nowhere. Good part of the 8.1 is it lives most of its life below 2500 rpm because it makes good torque down low.
Whats with the chicken noise
Javier Andrade pet turkey
what gears are you running?
Sounds mean
