    The focus sadly suffers from wheel hop and instability from factory if you just mash the gas. Replacing the rear motor mount with an aftermarket one gets rid of that issue, thus the focus probably would have had way more of a decent chance. However ford engineering is absolute so it is what it is.

    I've driven both for my job, and all I can say is the Cruze is in a different league, the focus is trash with the 6 speed dual clutch, i had to drive a titanium hatchback on the 401 highway (in Canada) and I went to floor it to get up to speed it was about a 3-5 second delay, than it it crawled up to 120 km/h I honestly find the car dangerous to drive. Cruze is nice though.

      albert7139 As an owner of this same model of Cruze, although never driven the Focus, I can agree that the Cruze on the highway is amazing. I'm in Canada is well, and when you're cruzin' at 100 and need to pass, there's still a lot of power left, including the turbo, to get around anyone. It's not the fastest in the city, but the power shines on highway, at least in my experience. I love it, I'm so happy I bought the Cruze.

    • @DoSum4Me
      @DoSum4Me 6 лет назад +2

      Jeremy Oberg yeah they are pretty good cars, I had a rental Cruze for almost 2 months and the whole time I never averaged below 39 miles per gallon, but I bought a 6 speed manual Accent which is still a decent car, but the Cruze it definitely a lot bigger and more comfy.

    • @RootBeerTuna
      @RootBeerTuna 6 лет назад

      albert7139 I get 7.5l/100km to 8.5l/100km depending on my mood during that tank of gas. And on the highway it's a little over 5l/100km. It's a great car, and although I've never personally been in the back, all of my passengers are always surprised by how roomy it is. I only wish it was capable of pulling a little trailer, as does my wife.

    Used to own the Focus, now own the Cruze. Cruze is a way better overall car. The Turbo in the Cruze sometimes packs a surprising punch, but both cars are slugs at take off. Both cars take jamming the throttle down from a stop as a mild suggestion than you might want to proceed forward. Focus's garbage trans kills any joy in driving that car, even considering it's sportier suspension. Chevy has a better infotainment system, and just a number of standard features you wouldn't find on even a mid-level trim Focus, MSRP roughly the same. Cruze was a decent compact that no one really noticed. Focus went out as a dumpster-fire with class-action lawsuits well deserved.

    The Cruze has to have traction control disabled plus brake torque to build revs otherwise it won't launch hard, the focus is about as fast just mashing gas from a standstill as brake torque ing it. Also there are tunes available for the 1.4T for around $300 that can really wake them up, especially at launch.

    That's called "clutch scrubbing" in the Focus if it's that PowerShift automatic. I personally wouldn't buy either one. The Focus has too many problems with that automatic and the Cruze is plagued with engine, turbo and electrical problems.

    the ford focus transmission has a second lag off the start if you pay attention. i have a ford focus and i always have to smash the gas one second before so that the car launches right on time. the computer has to do a lot of calculations and movements before it launches so theres quite a bit of lag. this is even worse when it has to shift multiple times when you want to pass on the freeway. i used to hate it because of the lag. however now i learned how to overcome most of the transmission's downfalls... i basically have to plan out and smash the gas way sooner in anticipation.
    Let say im trying to get over but the cars in the lane over are going much faster than my lane. so i literally have to smash the gas even before the car next to me has even passed me yet because it takes about 2 shifts (2 full seconds) to start accelerating. isnt that crazy?

    My 2017 Cruze is a odd little car that some times surprises me with what it's little engine can do. It's a nice highway cruizer but once you've reached 70+ it like there is no tiny turbo at all. Also the same to be said about normal stop and go driving. Funny part is if I turn the AC on ECO it shifts quicker and hold revs longer and higher really without your changing how your driving. My MPG really never changes no matter how I drive it, I get 34+ most of the time. Two problems that are really just annoying issues are, very small cup holders and the manual shift button. It never seems to work and the only perk to using it is it takes the car to first gear when you stop not second and it deactivates the AUTO OFF.
