I knew the city well, back in 2005. I spent 6 weeks doing disaster relief, right after Katrina. I was there when Rita went thru. We fed people using Red Cross ERVs. One of my routes took me to the bay. It was horrible. I won't describe it. I'll just say, it was traumatizingly bad. I returned twice to visit the amazing residents, who'd become my friends; in 06, & in 2010. It was amazing how beautiful Ocean Springs had become since the hurricanes!
Thank you for the work you did to make the area what it is now after the hurricanes. It was a beautiful place to visit and the residents were so welcoming. Glad that we got the chance to visit!
I live in central MS and Ocean Springs is a town I have thought about retiring to but the hurricane factor is a concern. Having said that I do have a vacation condo in Orange Beach and of course there is the same risk there. But I do have some family down that way so will probably continue to split time between my current home and OB.
Always worth a visit! We really enjoyed our stay there. Being from the north we weren’t as familiar with the area but we were sure glad we stumbled upon it!
