I really don't care what people have to say about my state. I love it and I love the coast. There's something about every state that people don't like. Just have to visit the better places.
Bay St Louis is one of the best kept secrets in Mississippi. I travel 6 hours from Tennessee to this jewel two times a year. Mississippi is a great state no matter what you may have heard. The delta is the delta with agriculture that helps feed the world but the gulf coast is their claim to fame.
The coast etc is beautiful. I grew up there, teen years. Problem is when the gulf comes to visit. I love it there, it's a shame there's not more industry.
I grew up one county over from Bay St. Louis. My wife and I went often during the summer to go there, to shop and eat. Trapani's is our favorite restaurant. They used to have Brett Favre's jersey hanging framed on the wall. Old Towne is great to shop and look around.
Talk to me. I've been researching Harrison and stone county. Thinking I want to move back, but not immediately on coast. Storm surge safer.... Lol yikes.
Culturally the county is still largely an extension of greater French Louisiana and is full of French and Italian catholics etc. Beautiful town thanks for sharing!
Do you live there? I've been thinking of moving back. I'm looking up hwy 49 though, safer than hurricane prone coast. I was there during hurricane Camille. :/
great video. just went there for a vacation from canada and loved it during a mini trip after going to a nashville predators hockey game. Will return in fall during college football season and hopefully the nashville predators got a hockey home game then. Just a beautiful place and great people.
Hi just subscribe . You know a lot of people don't know this but in August of 2005 this is where the eye of Hurricane Katrina actually hit! Totally wiped out Bay Saint Louis it was a beautiful little artsy community prior to Katrina. The news made it sound like it hit New Orleans no no no in fact they didn't get hit from the hurricane at all they got all the flooding from the hurricane hitting Gulf Coast Mississippi! You ought to do a video on Ocean Springs. You know the three mile bridge that separates Biloxi & Ocean Springs. Really nice place to visit and live! p.s. did you happen to notice a couple of Live Oaks that were not huge anymore they got wiped out in Katrina. But a artist came and made what's left of the wood into art pieces. You just passed one on the left. This is true all along the coast from Biloxi on up to where you are. Before Katrina Highway 90 had beautiful Live Oaks in the middle of the four-lane and beautiful gorgeous Antebellum homes all of those were wiped out.psss Bay st. Louis looks totally different now. I was back in 2011 I only stayed 2 years. And I took a drive up to Bay st. Louis and it still wasn't built up very much from Hurricane Katrina at that point! Prior to Katrina employment was the casinos for entire Gulf Coast! In other words from Ocean Springs to Bay st. Louis . Can't help you out with nowadays btw Hurricane Katrina is still the worst hurricane in history. They also had the second-worst hurricane in the 60's Hurricane Camille if I remember right. Full Gulf Coast Mississippi it's hurricane-prone believe me!!! I'll be totally surprised if you found a Cuban restaurant? Bay st. Louis and a couple other places along the coast are great but it's all a little too redneck for this girl!
Yep that’s how I discovered bay saint Louis. I purchased 4 homes back then. I kept one as my vacation home. I come to town from Perdido key Florida to get away from the crowds, our town in Florida is over tan with vacationers. And property tax are high in Mississippi well over 3k
@@ihomeproservices7040I'm contemplating moving there. The insurance seems nuts over 2k. ? I was looking up hwy 49 near McHenry. So close to coast, but not within storm surge??
So you didn’t stop and do a video in Ocean Springs? And their downtown? If you did I’m not finding it in the YT search. Ocean Springs is where I want to move to. I was gonna move to FL until I visited Ocean Springs.
I've been to Mississippi coast alot growing up bc I grew up on Louisiana. It's the best thing we have that's close. Kinda like a mini 30A in bay.st Louis but the water sucks unfortunately.
Used to live in Gulfport on 33rd Ave two blks from beach. Friend told me Katrina pretty much took out everything south of rr tracks. I was there in 5/24. You could tell it had taken quite a hit.
you only drove 2 miles over the bridge. geez.. Gulfport is 3 times bigger, and the Bay is not what it was even a year ago. There is a ton about the South that is good. But the north hates us, so of course MS is horrible. You won't get a house where you are riding for under $300K and yes, insurance including flood , will cost you close to 3K a year. Property taxes aren't bad, considering the price of your house. mine is $550 a year. We get garbage pickup twice a week.. but it's in the utility bill. about $12 a month for garbage. My utility bill runs $54 a month. water, gas, sewage, wastewater, garbage and the grabber machine. But let me tell you something.. try coming in the area you're riding in now on a Friday and Saturday night and find a stupid place to park, including the parking garage. It's a total joke now, because of tourist. We lost to parking areas to greedy newcomers, that we've used for parking over 13 years since Katrina, that they bought and now charge for parking. Newcomers move here cause they sounded like you.. Oh such a wonderful cute little place. Yada yada.. but now they keep finding all kinds of things they don't like, so lets start shit and see what we can change to how it's done where we came from. OH and they complain because our car tags are stupid high, but they should have checked it out first. my 2015 explorer was almost $500.. it's not just over $150.. but we have the lowest taxes and tag prices on the coast. If you go inland to the county, it's all even cheaper. And we are a TOWN.. not rural or a suburb. and we don't eat dirt, we use silverware and have better manners than most. All I can say if you don't like MS, don't let the door hit you on the way out. OH and next time.. compare us to middle MS, then from Jackson up. Quit using the numbers on race percentages. There might be a cuban place to eat, 30 minutes west of here in Slidell , LA.. driving distance is the same as going to Gulfport. There are 3 authentic mexican places in the Bay.. One of them stays packed over the weekend. Never see Mexicans eating there, tho.. LMAO
And alot of folks work at Stennis and in Gpt and Biloxi.. Ford is a local dealer, makes sense.. And yes in some areas they houses need work. Every freaking town you'll ever go thru does. Some don't have the means to afford the work and some don't give a rats ass. And ALL STATES/CITIES HAVE THIS! Go ride in some Northern states. Geez Louise! The building on your left by the quick stop store, just couldn't make a go at it. So they closed down and left it as is. It was an estate auction place. The gas station just reopened by new owners, after being closed for a year or two. They put a lot of work and money into it, because it was run down before it closed. And that corner is not the Hood.. you should have turned left there and you'd been in the " hood ". if you want to get technical. Since you're in to name calling .
After Katrina, some people just left, because it FLOODED bad in this area of main street. Either they couldn't afford to rebuild with the new rules or just didn't want to go thru another possible Katrina again. So there sits one street of several streets with empty lots that need to be sold. Remember, you pay taxes on it, even if you no longer reside on it. And why pay someone to sell a lot you won't get what it's worth anyway. You don't get it , do you? It wasn't ever a hood on Main street. It's a small town, and OMG, we're in MS. Always has been and always will be rural.
The question is can you forget what you've seen? This town has a tyrant police supervisor, I would avoid this town and not spend any money there-see Honor Your Oath audits for details
