- Looking to leave bedside nursing and into home care nursing such as hospice, home health or home infusions? This video is for you! In this video, I talk about what it's like working for home care, what to look for in agencies/companies, and the different types of pay models.
I am a home care nurse with almost 2 years of experience. I decided to start my career outpatient because I knew working in the hospital wasn't for me. I worked in the hospital as a nursing assistant and couldn't see myself doing that for the rest of my career. As a new grad, I gave a change in home care and loved it! I decided to no longer pursue a position in the hospital and build my career in home care nursing.
Hey Krizia Ann! I came across your video with Nurses to Riches. I just moved to California and I'm exploring home care job opportunities to kickstart my RN career here. I'll definitely be tuning in to your videos for some tips! 😍🥰 Your video really helped ease my pre-employment nerves. Thanks a bunch!
I'm an OR nurse but I am considering home health nursing thanks for this informative video.
Me too I need a change from the negative culture
I am an LPN, just accepted a job with home health, I start on Monday! I was offered a pay per visit rate. I'm waiting to see how it all pans out to see if I like it, but so far they are willing to work with my scheduling needs as far as with my children, etc. I really hope I like it and that I can make enough $ to sustain my needs. I have a 10+ year background in phlebotomy and ER, I would love to do home infusions.. that's my dream job at the moment ❤
Love this comment. I’m an LVN trying to get in to home health but I only have experience in private duty nursing. A lot of companies want skilled nursing home experience. I hope I find a job in home health soon.
@ I've been at it for about a month now and I actually like it a lot more than I thought I would. Good luck on your job search!!
Thank you so much for this video I found it by chance while trying to find encouraging resources to help me get confident about my exit from bedside plan that I started on today. Thanks girly!
❤❤❤
Hi! This video was so informative for me ESPECIALLY since I also live in southern CA, and I have worked bedside for over a year and want to look into work situations where I can feel less burnt out. I know a lot of west coast graduates and clinical instructors too so this info was so relevant!!
thank you for the video and inspiration. i've been an er tech/ekg tech for 13 years and recently been an RN for 6 months on an open heart step down unit. i'm already burnt out on bedside nursing. my goal was to get my year in and go back to teh ER, but now i am looking at non bedside/traditional RN jobs.
You are spoiling us with back to back uploads 💕
Hehe thank you! I’m trying! 😅
I ❤❤❤❤ your videos. They’re so thorough, straight to the point and hit all the key points. I have been following you since I started nursing school at West Coast two years ago and I just graduated. Your videos have guided me through my entire experience. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! & congrats!!! This motivates me to continue posting!
Help me with home care job
I came across your videos a while ago and came back hoping to see an update of what you've been up to. An update would be appreciated! @@nurse_krizia
@@an7263 will be back on RUclips soon!
YESSS. I can't wait! @@nurse_krizia
I loved both HH and hospice in home. The flexibility is the best! However, the benefits are the worst. We ended up using my husbands benefits so it worked out. Very well said for vetting the HH companies during the hiring process.
I’ve worked home health for 7 months. I often work 12-14 hours a day. It has no definable end. I have no life and I’m miserAble. I hope your experience is better than mine
I feel you! When I was working in home health, I would have days like these. Make sure you're getting paid for those hours, if you're not, its time to find another company. I have experience working with other agencies who have amazing support, understand and respect when I say I can't take anymore patients.
The company I work with works in units not hrs which is weird
I just got hired at a home health agency, I’m just scared since I’m a new grad nurse I don’t wanna get in trouble with anything as far as getting my license suspended. Can you make a video of what to be careful with to protect your license?
Hey how’s it going with home health? I’m a newer grad nurse too bout to start home health😊
I mainly work in PACU but do pre-op here and there at an outpatient surgery center. I'm definitely getting better with IVs. I've been wanting to do a per diem home infusion job, but I look at the job qualifications with little IV experience that i have and don't apply for fear of not being qualified. How did u land your job? Did doing home health help? I have 4 yrs of medical surgical/ acute rehabilitation nursing. These jobs I notice look for people with ED, critical care, or oncology experience. Thank you. I work south OC and see a number of infusion jobs. 😃🙏
They liked that I had home health experience as IV skills can be learned! Trust me, I had so much trouble on my first couple visits that I thought I was going to get fired… lol But I had so much support from my field nurses and supervisors. If you don’t get an IV in you let your supervisor know so they can find someone else to staff. I’ve failed my first couple of times but my supervisor said I’ll get better the more I keep practicing. So I bought a practice IV arm, an IV finder off Amazon, watched RUclips videos, and learned from my mistakes and now I feel so much more confident!
@Krizia Ann, BSN, RN thank you very much. That gives me hope:) Did the job you applied for prefer critical care and ER experience but not require it? I applied to home infusion job, so hopefully I hear back:)
@@genevievemiranda5185 I applied on indeed and they love how I have home health experience so I think that helped me a lot even with little to no IV experience! During my orientation, we did have nurses who are per diem from ICU or pre-op. Home care in general is in high demand!
@@nurse_krizia thank you very much. We don't know until we try 😃🙏
@Dion Joyner So sorry to hear you guys complain deeply of failing the exam. But I will assure you that Nclex exam won't be a problem to you anymore,if you work with someone like Mrs ELISABETH HELEN. She help me through my exam and I made it through. 💪❤️🎉🤗
Been doing bedside for almost 12 years. Really considering trying Hospice Case Management. Home Health is totally new to me. So thanks for the info!
Thank you for watching! It’s def a great speciality to switch to!
Private care is good if you get a good home/kiddo/ parent but I’m interested in infusions
how did you transfer from home health to infusion may I ask? did you have to take extra training or such?
What are your thoughts on the company Bayada?
Hey Krizia this is helpful! Im an RN who is thinking about doing home health nursing in SoCal. Do you have any tips about which areas to work out there? I thought about Pasadena.
Very informative thank you❤
Great info, thank you!
Does your new job pay more than you home health case management job you had before
Hi Krizia! Thank you for making this video. Your explanation is super easy to understand. You are talented.
Currently i am trying to open my own home care agency. And i am looking for a RN for DON position. Since it is going to be in Georgia, i just wanted to ask if you are in GA? Or do you have anyone in your mind who would be interested in?
I’ve been medsurg for about a year. I’m tired of the nightly rat race. How do I find a reputable home health company?
Will they teach you skills such as dressing changes, wound care, lab draws, IVs, etc? I’ve been working in out pt cardiac rehab for past 18 years & looking for a change.
They have skills validation but its not extensive. You perform the skill and they critique you. You can also come to the office and practice yourself, the only downside is you re-use the same supplies as they don’t want to waste new supplies every time you practice.
I got offered a home health job as a new grad RN. Is it doable? Will I struggle? I only have clinical experience as a student at a hospital
You mentioned you hadn’t done IVs since nursing school , did your new job provide training on these skills?
Hello, we did a skills validation but not a training course. Employers are willing to pay for outside training courses for IV. The costs usually range around $400 and is over a span of 3 days.
I decided to purchase a practice IV arm and set off Amazon and practiced on that. I learned what not to do and what to do, which helped a lot. I also watched phlebotomy videos and vein anatomy to learn where to look for veins
Hey do you get told what your assignment is for the day on a specific patient. For instance if you need to draw blood from a patient or do you look over their chart and have to figure that out on your own
I was offered a position in the South East.....I'm curious as to what is the average hourly rate of pediatric home health per hour? Thank you
How do you go from private care to infusions?
I'm a newgrads ICU nurse of 10 months. I got hired as per diem. Hospice and home care also interest me, maybe I can do home care on the side!
Congrats!
Hi,where can i apply as infusion Nurse?
Hi, I live in Corona Ca. Can you give me suggest agencies close to my home. I like to try Home Health. I been a nurse for 20 years, bilingual Spanish speaking. Would like a position PRN.
I just finished my ADN BUT DID NOT GET ACCEPTED INTO ANY RN PROGRAM DO U KNOW IF I CAN GO STRAIGHT TO GETTING MY BSN?
oh absolutely you can. be picky on whwere you want to start as an RN. at times its tough because you dont really kno what you like/want until you do something you hate. ive been on my open heart step down until for almost 6 months. im learning a lot with the cardiac drips etc, and the ppl i work with are awesome BUT i hate being on the floor/bedside if that makes sense. i'm looking for something non traditional or procedural like, EP lab, cath lab, IR, TEE, etc.
I hv a quick question, im planning to take hesi in 3 days and so furious about reading session. What kind of passage did u experience in yr hesi exam when you took it? Please let me know😢 thank you
Hey- random question- do you ever get concerned with the state of home environments (ie bedbugs, roaches, general hoarding issues) and do your employers usually have policies regulating what conditions workers can say no to? I know this is probably the rare exception but I have to ask! Considering hospice, thank you so much!
Hi! To be honest, you don’t know what you’re walking into until you get to the patient’s home. I’ve expected to visit homes in wealthy communities and walk into a hoarded home. Generally, if your service area is rural/poor communities it is more likely that you’ll walk into these homes. Patients aren’t aware that they live in these environments.
In these homes, it’s likely they need a lot of help. If I see bugs/roaches I never set my belongings down, you can also put on PPE. I tend to make these visits which If you feel unsafe, you are entitled to say no.
Hi what specialty experience do i need for home infusion as new grad?
As a new grad, I’m not sure if home infusions hire new grads. But getting a job/experience in home health, hospice, or acute hospital helps
What about on-call hours?
Yes they have on call hrs where a nurse is on call twice a month
would you say home infusion nursing is the "cleanest" of the 3?
Yes, if you mean ‘cleanest’ as in dealing with poop. Lol but you deal with more exposure to blood.
@@nurse_krizia blood over poop any day lol. What happens if you can’t get IV access?
I’m getting so bored with home health. I need a more steady job. Majority time is talking and driving. 😢
Doing private care now. I started a residency icu but it wasn’t for me. Constantly on the phones. No thanks lol
Private duty with one patient?
@@queenbutterfly4888 yes.
i understand where you're coming from. im a new rn for almost 6 months and my prior experience was er/ekg tech for 13 years. i was so used to seeing the mostly direct communication between my RN coworkers and the ED docs. but when i started on my open heart step down unit, i got tired of having to find this and that dr and i know thats how nursing is esp on the floor, i just would rather have my own autonomy instead of having to hunt down 4-5 diff people for each of my patirents. my year is up in march so i hope i can make it til then. but i started applying to work from home RN jobs and procedural rn jobs.
@@queenbutterfly4888 yep just one Pt. Easy
@@itr0863 yea I don’t think I could do that type of nursing and I’m considering staying in home health and dumping my money in real estate. Also looking at PT program
I just started clinicals at a SNF... and I wasn't thinking it would affect me so much, but do you have tips on how to get over the smell of stool? I do not want to make the patients feel embarrassed and I'm trying really hard to power through it but I just can't. I keep gagging 😭 I want to work as a CNA through nursing school and I want to be a great nurse one day but omg...help
I don’t deal with as much poop working outpatient. But people would put Vicks inside their mask to help with the smell
They have a clear nose ring on amazon, you add essential oils to it and put it on the septum. I personally double mask. Put one mask on put essential oil on mask #2 and put it over mask#1. Same concept.
Thank you guys 😭 it's getting somewhat betterish
Put some peppermint oil on your mask👍
I breathe through my mouth, so I don’t smell it.
